I’ve never had avocado

Around Christmas time there was a thread about what Christmas food people couldn’t get enough of and I remember stollen was very popular. So off I went to my local supermarket and picked up a bag of mini stollen bites... didn’t really like them but glad I tried them.

Now more to the point, a lot of people bang on about avocado on toast. I’ve never tasted avocado so before I go out and buy one only to dislike it I was wondering if anyone would be able to describe what it tastes like x

@CorvusPurpureus that's interesting about the chilli - fig jam as my favourite way to eat halloumi until now was fried in butter, then topped with brinjal pickle. (Basically aubergine and chilli jam) Grin

Yucky if you ask me. My kids like them though as does dh.

Since we have got onto a cheese theme Smile the Hungarian fried cheese I posted below must be done.

In my opinion the best way to bake camembert is to cut tiny slits in the skin and insert garlic as finely sliced as possible and pieces of fresh rosemary, then pour a good slosh of kirsch over the top before you bake it.

Now it's going to get BAD. Sorry, but you were warned! Grin

Make a roux in the usual way (melt butter, add flour, cook as a paste a little to "cook out" the flour) then add milk and stir until it is thick but no lumps. Off the heat, chuck in LOTS of grated gruyere and parmesan. Stir again until smooth. Then stir in crab meat (even cheap supermarket stuff does the job well). Grill some nachos in the oven a bit to warm them, put this sauce on top, grill again. If you want a crispy too you can add more grated gruyere or cheddar etc on top. Then when you take them out of the oven sprinkle some chopped spring onions on top.

MagentaDoesNotExist · 12/01/2021 23:26

Crispy *top.

Also: amazing with sprinkled crispy chopped up bacon on top. Or pickles. But then, I eat pickles with everything. Grin

And @BriocheBuns the questions we have all been asking ourselves:

Have you tried an avocado yet?

And if so, did you like it?? (And how did you eat it?)

BaronessBomburst · 13/01/2021 10:55

Oh that nachos recipe is dirty!
One for the weekend. Grin

Never had avocado. For the past 20 years it's been on my banned list of dangerous foods to avoid like the plague but now that I've changed medication I'm allowed to eat it.

I know all about the health factor but I can't quite get over the fear factor.

That must be really difficult. I hope you can bring yourself to try a little of one soon, they are really delicious and it must be great not to have certain foods banned now!
