What normal foods have you never eaten?

I've never eaten beetroot, cauliflower or pickled eggs.

What everyday food have you never eaten ?

We seem to be getting away from "normal" everyday foods now.

I can understand people's reluctance to try something if they dislike the smell - for example coffee or curry, but I must admit to finding it unusual that someone might not have tried any kind of fizzy drink or tomatoes. How do you know you don't like them if you haven't tried them?

I don't think there is an everyday food that I haven't tried.

Pickled eggs
Subways
Nandos
Brown Sauce
Tinned salmon
Cottage Cheese
Tinned pies
Spam
Pot Noodle

SendHelp30 · 11/01/2021 16:49

Beetroot, cauliflower, avacado, aubergine, olives, pate, sardines or mackerel

purplecorkheart · 11/01/2021 16:50

Sorry forgot to add Durian

Ginfordinner · 11/01/2021 16:50

Sorry forgot to add Durian

Is that an everyday food?

AriesTheRam · 11/01/2021 16:53

Avocado

PuppyMonkey · 11/01/2021 16:54

Sugar Puffs.Grin

I've never had pickled eggs either! Don't think I would count them as normal food. I have sometimes looked at them in the chippy and thought I should give them a try. I think I'd probably like them.

I've never had pot noodles. Or findus crispy pancakes. Despite being a child of the 70s/80s. I am told this is not normal. I cannot think of anything else!

HalloumiFries · 11/01/2021 17:07

I was reading this thread, think there is no normal food I haven't tried (never tried a picked egg but don't think this is a normal/everyday food?)
Then I realised that I've never had a Big Mac. Most people seem incredulous when I say that.

I've had the basic burgers/cheeseburgers in macdonalds but even then I don't think I've been in macdonalds or had any of their food for over 20 years.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/01/2021 17:33

Ditto to steak tartare! However I have a dd who loves it, but then she likes her steaks ‘blue’ too.

speakout · 11/01/2021 17:38

Nothing.

I have tried everything on this thread- including durian- although I wouldn't class it as an everyday food in the UK.

Bilgepumper · 11/01/2021 17:41

I'm astonished at some of the foods peeps have never tried. I've never tried oysters, mainly because I've never had the chance.

SomewhatBored · 11/01/2021 17:44

Milk - I've never drunk milk (since being weaned, obviously) or a milkshake and don't have it in tea or coffee either. I can only tolerate it on cereal and it has to be well soaked into the cereal so it isn't obviously milk.

Apart from that I am a very adventurous eater. I love pickled eggs, which are most unfairly getting a hard time on this thread.

I am now arguing with a colleague over whether artichokes are a normal food or not

Ftr, I have eaten them but was in my 30s before I did so!

Soutiner · 11/01/2021 17:59

I’ve just remembered that I have beaten grapefruit! It smells awful! Mother used to have a slice with her breakfast and I could never bring myself to eat it because of the smell!

ginghamstarfish · 11/01/2021 18:03

Seafood apart from actual fish - all looks like snot or bugs.

jamie980 · 11/01/2021 18:14

A McDonald’s burger. Not a fast food snob, just love a nug

Hotcuppatea · 11/01/2021 18:16

Steak of any kind
Cockles and whelks
Pickled eggs (love pickled everything but just can't get over the look of them)

Plussizejumpsuit · 11/01/2021 18:25

@noblegreenk

Lettuce
How do you avoid lettuce? It's everywhere!
HeronLanyon · 11/01/2021 20:26

Parsnips - never seen the need for them.
Beetroot.
Whipped cream. (Hardly any sweet tooth helps). Love clotted cream oddly.
Jaffa cakes
Haribo or any other m and s type packet sweets.
Roses.
Fresh apricots - never appealed and they are in season surrounded by so much more lovely stone fruit.

Sway19 · 11/01/2021 20:30

Marmite

ivykaty44 · 11/01/2021 20:47

Durian is not really your every day food you pick up at sainsbury- also would stink the place out

I did try durian ice cream and can safely say never again

inquietant · 11/01/2021 20:55

Prawns
Fried chicken

Have never used deliveroo or similar, as the last time I ordered a takeaway you still had to phone up.
