I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Local council doesn't have the option for alerts. It's the strike action that has knocked things out of synch. They have an online calender that you can download with your postcode so its a personalised version but alerts are too high tech definitely.

Thank you for the new thread MissC! Sorry to hear you are unwell - I hope you are on the mend soon.

We have just taken down the Christmas tree and all our inside decorations. It's looking very glum and un-festive now. There are needles everywhere! But we managed to spill quite a lot of water out of the tree base so I mopped and now need to wait for it to dry before I can hoover.

MissConductUS · 10/01/2021 21:50

Welcome, @Anjo2011 and thanks for your Sunday dinner news. What did you order in?

I'm listening to BBC Newshour with Sue Montgomery. She sounds nice.

In 10 minutes we have our weekly Zoom call with my lovely MIL. DH is already getting ingredients ready for dinner so he can start making it as soon as the call is over.

DH is now back, its too late for Sunday roast dinner now so we will have that tomorrow either lunch or dinner. We still have our mini real Christmas tree and lights up, we will eventually plant her in the back garden but she is pretty so we are leaving her be for the moment.

Sunbird24 · 10/01/2021 22:02

I thought I’d lost you all! Thank you for the new thread.

The lad I asked to pick me up some frozen fruit and veg for making smoothies with came back with the following:
Mixed berries (lovely)
Mango (yum)
Mixed cauliflower, broccoli and carrot (er...)
Mixed broccoli, carrot and sweetcorn (seriously dude?)
Mixed peas, carrot, sweetcorn and green beans (wtf?)

I suppose it’s all healthy but it not what I would have chosen for myself. I thought he was a safe bet to ask as well as he is always making smoothies!

Anjo2011 · 10/01/2021 22:09

@MissConductUS thanks for the welcome :-)
We had a mixture, roast pork for me and eldest DD, roast beef for DH and youngest DD. Yorkshire’s for all , roast and mashed potato’s, gravy and winter veg. Much needed after the first week of home schooling!

EggyPegg · 10/01/2021 22:14

EggyCat2 got in the Build a Bear box earlier and promptly stuck her head through the window. After I finished taking photos I did help her get it out.

halfpasteleven · 10/01/2021 22:30

@Silkiechickscat I would LOVE to have that choice when it comes to testing! Enjoy (salted caramel would be first on my list)
Hope you had a nice rest @MissConductUS

MissConductUS · 10/01/2021 22:31

@Anjo2011 - That sounds like a lovely dinner, and great that you could each get what you wanted. I don't think any restaurants near me offer that kind of takeaway, sadly.

We had a nice zoom call with MIL. She's 92, lives alone, and is still as sharp as a tack.

Thanks Halfpast I tested the baileys and the salted caramel - they are pretty big, it was a tough job but someone had to test the giant chocolates the baker has made. I liked the baileys one best but both were very good but I need further testing. I just wish our bakers was open more than a few mornings a week.

Just had a steak and onion sandwich and having a cup of tea. About to have another hot chocolate with frothy milk.

APurpleSquirrel · 10/01/2021 22:48

I've had my yearly report from Sainsbury's to inform me that I am the no.1 buyer of Almond Croissants at my local stuff. Go me!

Frownette · 10/01/2021 23:07

@APurpleSquirrel that's quite the accolade

EggyPegg · 10/01/2021 23:08

@APurpleSquirrel That is an excellent achievement. Congratulations.

And welcome.

Anjo2011 · 10/01/2021 23:12

@MissConductUS I think it’s wonderful that at 92 your MIL is able to zoom! How lovely for you to keep in touch. Has she had her vaccine yet? My parents are in their 80’s, they are due the first dose this week.
The takeaway is from a local pub that are renowned for their Sunday lunch. I am happy to support them and equally happy not to cook!

QuestionableMouse · 10/01/2021 23:28

I put my Christmas tree away today and now my living room looks huge and very bare.

My dog has more stuff on than me for walks now (headcollar, collar, rug - because he gets cold and now boots.) If I remember I'll stick a photo on tomorrow 😁

QuestionableMouse · 10/01/2021 23:29

I'm also planning on ordering breakfast in in the morning. Bacon roll, fancy coffee and maybe some baked goods 😁

MissConductUS · 10/01/2021 23:30

Welcome @APurpleSquirrel and thanks for sharing your pastry consumption news. I don't think I've ever had an almond croissant. Plain and chocolate, certainly, but never almond. I will have to seek one out.

@Anjo2011 - We have enjoyed keeping in touch with her. She has always been lovely and respectful to me.I didn't realize how lucky I was in that regard until I read the MIL horror stories on MN. Zoom has been great for this as she loves seeing my DC, both of whom are in uni, though they are home at the moment. She has not had the vaccine yet but I expect she will in the next few weeks. Your pub sounds great. We have a pub type place we order takeaway from but the menu is mostly American fare.

Made a lovely vegan roast today - butternut squash, beetroot, carrots and red onion, served with baby spinach. Was delicious and v. healthy. However, this was offset by my munching many leftover biscuits and chocolates this evening. Goodnight all.

Frownette · 11/01/2021 00:18

Goodnight!

@MissConductUS almond croissants are gorgeous

EggyPegg · 11/01/2021 00:21

Almond anything is a winner in my book.
@Freaksandgeeks, that sounds delicious and right up my street.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 11/01/2021 00:25

The only thing wrong with almond croissants is that they taste like almonds Grin I like almonds themselves, especially chocolate covered, but anything almond flavoured - croissants, marzipan, Amaretto, almond cheesecake etc - I really dislike. Very strange.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 11/01/2021 00:27

@Freaksandgeeks that sounds delicious! I had baked beans on toast for dinner. DH and DD1 had leftovers and DD2 is having some pasta I think. Normally we would get a takeaway on a Sunday but we are feeling a bit skint after Christmas....

DoctorTwo · 11/01/2021 00:28

Had to go and get Old Holborn. It's surprisingly difficult to find here.

Ladybird69 · 11/01/2021 00:32

@Frownette my friend had a kitchen fire when one of her dogs jumped up at the cooker and accidentally knocked the dial for the hob on. Have you got dog? Or cat that could have done it?

Frownette · 11/01/2021 00:59

@Ladybird69 I found out what happened but I'll spare his blushes!

I've got a bit addicted to desperate housewives (first time I've watched it) so I'm staying up to watch a bit more with green matcha tea then shower and bed.

Dog actually managed to switch it on with a flying leap? Was it one of those ones you have to compress to switch on? That's quite an achievement. Your poor friend!
