My mum was convinced that our family cat had dementia when he got very old (he lived to about 20). She used to say ‘it’s so sad. He forgets he’s already been fed, so we have to feed him again.’

I think that cat knew exactly what he was doing...

EggyPegg · 10/01/2021 09:25

@Silkiechickscat EggyCat1 started being a bit weird a couple of years ago (she's 12 now). She will go through phases of refusing to sleep anywhere comfortable, such as cat beds, sofas, beds etc. She's set up camp on the toilet cistern, in the bath, on top of the fridge, on the kitchen work surface (I know a hated MN thing but have you ever tried to stop a cat being where they REALLY want to be).

She would also bolt like she'd been burned if I tried to take her into a room other than her current preferred one. She does have a flea allergy though. We've been to the vets many times about it but there's nothing they can do. She is treated for fleas, but for the treatment to work, they have to bite and it's the bites that she's allergic to. I've noticed a pattern that she goes weird in the week that her next treatment is due. I have it posted to me to ensure a regular schedule, but I think I need to change it so that I have it in the house a few days earlier, but then I worry about over treating her.

@Squirrel26. That made me laugh. Savvy cat.

@Spudlet that dream is brilliantly mundane. Bravo.

Morning. Just about to do a 10 min workout on YouTube.

MissConductUS · 10/01/2021 11:47

Good morning lovely people of the thread. I am feeling a bit better this morning. I've done my run, showered, had a bit of breakfast and am doing a load of washing. Everyone else, including the Dcats, are sleeping. I've no real plans for the day, other than possibly a quick shop to get DS some cherry coke, so I'll mostly be taking it easy. I may ask DH to make Mongolian chicken tonight as there's no more in the freezer and it's a lovely easy meal to have as leftovers.

It's about -4 here, but still very dark.

Our Dgirlcat can be quite clever about flimflaming an extra meal. If DD feeds her and she sees me or DH she will go into "feed me" mode, trying to pull one over on us. We now check with each other to make sure she's not feed twice.

I had to google eggs and soldiers. Smile

I keep losing posts. Not sure if it's my kindle, Mumsnet or my internet.

Therainisback · 10/01/2021 11:52

My dream involved trying and failing to plait my hair. Hmm
Going to look for a slow cooker cauliflower recipe - maybe a mild curry?

QuestionableMouse · 10/01/2021 12:01

Hoping it doesn't freeze tonight. I'm at work until late ish (10) and they're not gritting the roads in my village so they're bloody lethal. Been quite a few bumps already.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 10/01/2021 12:02

@MissConductUS
Thank you for starting the thread. I hope you are feeling a bit better.
It is actually sunny here and not that cold.

DS is still in bed having slept continually since his meltdown (AS) on Friday. I am negotiating for him to repeat the year. (Which may be too stressful to hear for fellow AS parents, sorry.)

We will have rice and chicken for midday. I wanted to bake a cake, but we have run out of sugar.

Frownette · 10/01/2021 12:06

You started early @MissConductUS. Glad you feel a bit better.

I have really mundane dreams as well sometimes, can't remember last night's.

Prok have you not got a shop near you?

@Therainisback a creamy cauliflower and potato curry with coconut might be nice?

soddingkitten · 10/01/2021 12:20

I’m currently in an automated car wash. It’s the most exciting thing I’ve done in ages. Blow dry now underway. There is still bird poo on the windows. Hmm

Champagneforeveryone · 10/01/2021 12:31

Bad news about DDog1 who is very poorly and may be at the end of the road for us Sad

Realistically there's only so much he can cope with at his age and the road back from this (the vet thinks he now has IMHA) sounds impossibly long and arduous. He's staying in for now and we will see how things pan out overnight Sad

Champagneforeveryone · 10/01/2021 12:33

sodding, I'm quite unnerved by automatic car washes. I can't put my finger on why but I do try and avoid them where possible.

Spudlet · 10/01/2021 12:47

@Champagneforeveryone I’m so sorry 😞 He’s obviously so very loved and lucky to have a human who will do what’s best for him. Flowers

MissConductUS · 10/01/2021 12:56

@Champagneforeveryone - My condolences. As things progress focus on what a good life he has had and how loved and safe he was. There's an old saying that comforted me when I lost my Dcat Autumn at just eight years old. Every time a beloved pet dies you lose a piece of your heart, but the next pet gives you a piece of theirs. Over the years your heart becomes more open, more loving, and more serene, just as theirs are.

EggyPegg · 10/01/2021 13:00

I'm sorry to hear that @Champagneforeveryone. How are you doing?

Frownette · 10/01/2021 13:03

Peaceful wishes to you all @Champagneforeveryone

soddingkitten · 10/01/2021 13:10

Champagne - sorry to hear your dog is laid so low. 💐

When I restarted the car to drive out of the car wash I had a ‘very low battery’ warning, so took the car for a run up the dual carriageway and on to the motorway for a couple of junctions. They’ve rejigged the motorway junction I’d planned to slingshot back home from. I ended up on the outskirts of the neighbouring town trying to find an old fashioned roundabout I could turn back homewards on, but it’s all been streamed and changed since I last used that route. The car had a good run but I was out longer than planned.

EggyPegg · 10/01/2021 13:20

I've just heard DS2 requesting a song on his Dot. It wasn't getting it quite right so then he said 'Amazon play..' and proceeded to sing some of it. It was adorable.

It still didn't work so I looked up recently played songs on the app and found it for him. He's just said 'Amazon I love this song' so it'll remember it.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 10/01/2021 13:31

champagne Sorry to hear this about your dog!

As a child I loved those car washes, though my DF very rarely used them or generally washed his car.

DS is finally awake and reacts to attempts at conversation.

KingscoteStaff · 10/01/2021 13:36

We’ve moved the sofa, telly and piano around in the sitting room. Not sure I like it.

Champagneforeveryone · 10/01/2021 13:42

Thanks all Flowers
I'm actually at work, which is taking my mind off it to a degree. I've just spoken to DH who is very upset which was fairly awful.

We've always been fairly pragmatic about our pets and DH is a farmers son (though has gone extremely soft in his old age) We just feel that he's already been through such a lot that we wouldn't have put him through if we had realised at the time, but we are now so far in that there's always the "what if" aspect. Perhaps one more dose will be the one that gets him to turn the corner IYSWIM?

I'm torn between hoping he gets markedly better and things look more positive and we can envisage a future for him, and hoping that his condition is so compromised that the decision is taken out of our hands.

Nydj · 10/01/2021 13:51

Thank you for the new thread @MissConductUS.

@Champagneforeveryone, I’m so sorry that DDog is struggling and hope the vet can help keep him comfortable.

I made bateta pawa for lunch - similar to this www.bbcgoodfood.com/user/653536/recipe/batata-pawa and it was lovely. It’s a childhood fave of mine with a sprinkle of granulated sugar and some lime juice squeezed on top before eating. I really needed to eat something wonderfully comforting today and it hot the spot.

I have ordered some of the Linda McCartney veggie hoisin duck that someone mentioned in the previous thread and will try and report back for you @EggyPegg as I don’t like things that are supposed to taste too meaty either.

I think it’s suitably calming for this thread, so I will just mention that the new series of the great pottery throw down starts tonight on channel 4 at 7.45 in UK and the earlier series are showing on HBO in the USA (not sure if that also applies to Canada).

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 10/01/2021 14:01

The list of lovely sounding meals to try grows and grows.

halfpasteleven · 10/01/2021 14:16

@Champagneforeveryone what a hard time for you all, sending good wishes for you and your DDog.

We had scrambled eggs for breakfast. DS (8) made them (with a little help from me) and they were actually delicious. He has gotten so much better at not dropping the shell in.
I think we will have chicken burgers and chips for dinner.

QuestionableMouse · 10/01/2021 14:29

My dog boots came today. imgur.com/a/sBTBrQf

He accepted them better than I expected. 😂😂😂
