Tensions were high here at the weekend as well. We can't go outside 5km at the minute and it's making me so so anxious. DP is stressed too, and doing a lot of OT which is hard as he's not here to help at home and then he is tired when he is back.

I miss the sea.

I've realised it's so important to take some time out for some self care during this lockdown. I'm not going to be any good to anyone else if I feel overwhelmed all the time.

You can't pour from an empty cup.

Wishing everyone a better day today.

HelenaJustina · 25/01/2021 06:29

Morning! Have got an important audit inspection at work today. I was feeling fairly confident and well prepared but that is starting to ebb away. It is taking place via a 2.5 hr Teams meeting. I then have another long meeting this afternoon about mass testing of staff, and full Governors meeting tomorrow evening. I will be glad when it’s Wednesday!

Silkiechickscat · 25/01/2021 06:45

Bear halfpast Look after yourself and hope this week is better. We aren't allowed to leave the village and DD finds that very hard, DS and I are sloths so no issue for us though I am daydreaming of holidays. I wish I could book even one day out for DD but you can't atm.

I messaged the hotel in Thailand in River Kwai we were supposed to stay at in August and asked for a refund again and finally they said yes though after 45 days and less 12% plus bank charges but that's 80% back if it ever goes through. So then we will just have lost the £1,100 on the AirAsia flights though in theory we have £800 of that in AirAsia credits we can use for 2 years but AirAsia seem to have taken £300 off that recently Hmm Can't see that being viable anyway.

DS was up at 5am which means he won't be awake for lessons though I can't talk I haven't slept at all. The cat only managed to wake one person once so good by her standards.

That sounds like a long day Helena hope it goes OK.

EggyPegg · 25/01/2021 07:02

@halfpasteleven, that empty cup proverb is so true.

Good luck today @HelenaJustina

Glad you got some of your money back @Silkiechickscat and hope you all get some rest today.

Yesterday I was shocked to see snow! There was then the annual hunt for matching boots that aren't fashion boots so have helpful grippy heels, I finally found my old walking boots. They are clompy and creaky but they do the job! Managed to get to and from work without sliding on my @rse! Celebrated by taking two pancakes out the freezer. I am a traditionist and stick to lemon and sugar! I am now doubting there will be any left for pancake day!

I got home just in time for a cuppa tea before Finding Alice and then Channel 4 plus one for The Great. Enjoyed both.

Today there was less snow on the ground - mostly melted but still a few icy patched lying in wait for me. I managed ok though.

I may have mentioned I was moving soon - well Covid has put the kybosh on that for now. So I opened up a box I knew had cosmetics in it. For Christmas/Birthday from me to me I bought a couple of Estee Lauder perfumes -not new ones. Private collection and Azuree. I am wearing Private Collection today. I go through stages of wearing one all the time then alternating. It is definately an Estee week!

I am trying to do the wear a different lipstick a day challenge (there is a post on mumsnet about it) but cannot remember which box I put lipsticks in.

Tomorrow I am having the jab so wish me luck! I got not side effects from the flu jab and just loads of blotchy lumps on my arm after the Pneumonia one. My ex flat mate warned me that her sister had flu like symptoms from the jab but I am unsure if she had had Covid or not. I know a poster on here had bad side effects from the jab, too. However, I am going ahead with it and we shall see.

I can’t be doing with today. Someone just came in to ask me to do their appraisal in March. I couldn’t think how to form a sentence other than ‘no. Fuck off.’ So I just said ‘I don’t know’ repeatedly and indicated the several large piles of work on my desk(s). They went away. In fact, they slowly backed out of the room...

MissConductUS · 25/01/2021 11:49

Good morning, lovely people of the thread.

We had our first three location Zoom call last night with DD at uni, MIL and the three of us at home. We were a few minutes late getting on the call but DD and MIL were able to get on without us and had some time to talk while waiting for us. The good news is that DD has found the food to her liking and has acceptable options at every meal. Perhaps her list has grown a bit out of necessity. So it appears my picky eater DD won't starve to death at uni.

There's snow in the forecast for tomorrow, which is a bit worrisome as I have a medical appointment first thing tomorrow morning and it's not that close. I'll also be there for a while as it's to receive the IV infusion I get every eight weeks. I'll probably take DH's car as it has snow tyres.

We had another dusting of snow this morning and very sunny but cold now. Did tutor time with DS, history and English though he wasn't a happy bunny about it. Tutor was the least worst as I was talking about his chickens in the chat and the teacher was replying though another child asked if he would eat the chickens Hmm and DS was Shock my beautiful floofy chickens. The teacher said but DS's chickens are very beautiful.

Nydj · 25/01/2021 12:17

Goodness OP, you’re alway so casual about your lack of sleep and health issues - I guess you are used to it now but it makes me Yelp a little when I see it.

I hope this week is better for all especially @halfpasteleven, those struggling with too much work (please take some time out @HelenaJustina) and those trying to home school recalcitrant children.

I am thinking of buying a strap for yoga as I am very inflexible - do any of you have any recommendations/tips? I think a yoga strap is dull enough for this thread isn’t it?

MissConductUS · 25/01/2021 12:28

@Nydj - I will try to tone it down a bit. Grin

OP posts:
EggyPegg · 25/01/2021 13:31

Are you thinking resistance bands @Nydj? I'm interested in any answers you get.

My car was frozen solid this morning. Both DC had to get in the rear passenger door as the driver's side one wouldn't open. And I had to chip away at the ice on the windscreen.

In the spirit of the thread and calming things down from @MissConductUS health news (good luck tomorrow by the way), I have just been looking on the Halfords website at windscreen covers and apparently so are 77 other people.

I have also run out of screenwash, which made for a tricky drive home, so I looked at that too. 222 people have looked at that today.

I will do click and collect this afternoon.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 25/01/2021 13:45

Life is so dull and quiet in Frog towers that I have nothing to add to the thread. Is that dull enough?

Spudlet · 25/01/2021 14:00

I have resistance bands and a webbing yoga strap that my SiL gave to me. Both are good for yoga but I prefer the webbing strap as it’s less rubbery and clammy feeling on bare feet. Not sure where the strap was from, but my bands were from the middle aisle of Aldi, back at the start of all this.

So for yoga I’d recommend a strap over a rubber band thing, basically.

Nydj · 25/01/2021 14:04

Eggy I was thinking of a cotton strap with a loop at the end to help me be a little less inflexible.

@MissConductUS, DS was mister super dooper fussy eater with lots of issues with textures as well as taste before he went to uni - he came back, if not quite a changed man, at least as someone who can now eat a much wider range of foods - thank goodness! Also, I didn’t mean to sound critical of you - I’m just taken aback but always impressed by your blasé way of dealing with medical stuff compared. I, on the other hand, will always make a huge song and dance about the smallest ailment I have Grin.

MissConductUS · 25/01/2021 14:18

Nydj No offense taken I assure you. I think I'm pretty blase about it because I've been dealing with medical issues, my own and others, for my entire adult life. So they seem pretty ordinary. I also think that Americans have a somewhat different attitude toward them. There was a time when having cancer was considered shameful for some odd reason, and that was a big barrier to testing and early treatment. I also think that knowing that others have medical challenges and deal with them successfully makes people less fearful of them.

In addition to the good news about her nutritional success, DD seemed really relaxed and happy. She's clearly swimming, not sinking, so that was really good to see.

My click and collect order is ready.

I have just sewn the button back onto DHs trousers. I've even attached a picture to get those pulses racing.

Sidenote: those are the scissors I used to cut my hair. Not hairdressing scissors, but very sharp.
DH still has not noticed my haircut.

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 10: Calmly through the day
MissConductUS · 25/01/2021 15:42

Eggy those scissors are very pretty. Are they antique?

The colour of your DH's trousers is decidedly not boring. Spiffy was the word that came to mind for me.

I can't decide what to cook tonight - perhaps baked fish in lobster bisque sauce, potatoes and vegetables.

Feel a bit sad as I couldn't change the outcome of court case so they've gone to prison.

EggyPegg · 25/01/2021 16:26

Thanks @MissConductUS, I fell in love with them when I saw them as they're so pretty. Not antique no, from Warm Crochet

instagram.com/warm_crochet?igshid=jxyl4z7eowpd

Ha! Indeed. He's become braver with his fashion choices in his 30s. When we met at 18, he lived in black trousers. Like suit trousers. With trainers. Not a good look. I eventually got him into jeans and have encouraged him to be more adventurous. He loves these and his camel coloured chinos now. He even wear shorts on holiday these days Shock

@Frownette, I'm so sorry to hear that.
Dinner sounds fancy.

Champagneforeveryone · 25/01/2021 16:58

Sorry frownette Sad

DDogs and I had a lovely walk today while DH cooked dinner. We had roast beef, which we were supposed to have yesterday but didn't.

DH now feeding DDogs and ChampagneCat, dishwasher on (miraculously fixed for now by DH's astute method of turning it off and back on again) and we are about the sit down and watch more of The Durrells on Netflix.

Spudlet · 25/01/2021 17:44

Ah @Frownette, that’s rubbish. Sad Is there any chance of them appealing?

@MissConductUS Really glad your dd is settling in well 😊

I am pooped, we have done school at home, collected the shopping, and I’ve done an hour-long zoom resistance band class 🥵 It was burning a bit there! Now collapsed on the sofa while DS watches CBeebies. I have also filed all his school work so far by subject so there are no longer heaps of paper lying around looking messy - now there are heaps of folders looking deceptively organised instead Grin

Fish cakes and oven chips for us tonight, I didn’t feel like cooking. And somehow fish cakes keep finding their way into our shopping - we tend to add them on autopilot, then remove them if we don’t need them the night before we collect. The last couple of weeks they seem to have not been removed. So we need to eat some of them before we have a freezer full of nothing but fishcakes 🙄

lachy · 25/01/2021 17:49

I have to go to the shop. We have no squash, and I'm desperate for a cold drink.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/01/2021 18:51

DS basically has nothing to do until the new school year starts in late summer. An ideal occasion to prepare, revise and aim for grades that are better than abysmal, without overexerting himself. How do I convince him and make it seem as if it was his idea at the same time? (exciting and challenging, I know, sorry).

I ate a bag of peanuts for lunch + dinner.

Yogaposer · 25/01/2021 19:03

Spent the night and today in agony with my gallstones. I tried so hard to rein in the pain as I didn't want to end up in hospital. Just about managed after throwing my guts up several times (waking the co-sleeping kids up in the process) Have brushed my teeth several times as the taste of bile keeps repeating itself. Want to curl up in a ball of exhausted misery.

HelenaJustina · 25/01/2021 19:03

Thank you for the good wishes all, got to wait for final report but basically I aced it!
