Someone needs to take Cat Deeley aside

and gently remind her that she is broadcasting to adults, not a group of primary school children!

Still haven’t forgiven them for the whole Drivetime debacle

Me neither. I'm still wondering what was that all about ? I sometimes hear Simon Mayo doing a trailer for his show as he now works for a different media company. It reminds me that I miss his show so much. The, 'confessions' were just brilliant.

I loved the muppets, 'Manur Manur' song on a Friday.

It was all great. Then for reasons best known to management Jo Whiney came along. Simon valiantly said nice things about her in the beginning.

Jo Whiney just thought the criticism from listeners was funny. Then Simon left and Jo stayed. What was that about ? You could hear Jo biting back the urge to laugh on her first few solo shows when she got a post drivetime show after Simon departed.

Yes I am still here, actually. Seemed to be her attitude.

PhillyJoe · 02/01/2021 17:33

I get Cat Deely and Tess Daly confused. I've just looked at some pictures of the together and while I can see they are different people I struggle to know which is which!

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 02/01/2021 17:45

Yeah I miss Drivetime too, I mean I like Sara Cox, but Drivetime was brilliant, used to laugh so hard at some of the "confessions". If it ain't broke etc. They should have kept Drivetime and put Sara Cox on the Breakfast slot instead of Zoe Ball.

I assumed Graham Norton just wanted more time for jaunts to the emerald isle. I like him on R2 and got hooked on the agony aunt bit! Does he just like to keep busy or is it pure greed? Joe Wicks was awful, bless him, not a good radio voice or style. Love Lisa T and a bit of Ken. And Radio 4 Extra is a selection box of the weird and the wonderful! This week I am mainly mourning the passing of Jane Garvey from Woman's Hour.

PamDenick · 02/01/2021 18:15

One thing that GN did on his radio show was give time and consideration to authors and stage actors and playwrights etc. It was fab…

Standrewsschool · 02/01/2021 19:08

Just looked up OJ Borg on the advice of a poster upthread. He certainly is different to what I imagined. Quite like his programme.

Also thought Patrick K was good.

Rylan is the surprise hit on radio 2.

Craig Charles is good on radio also.

Gary reminds me of my teen years so quite enjoy him.

Can’t get on with Virgin radio. Listened to it recently and all they did was advertise Chris Evans programme. It was annoying.

Definitely time to change Steve Wright in the afternoon. Who would get the gig? Dermot O’Leary, Patrick K? Someone else?

MorrisZapp · 02/01/2021 19:12

There were two girls /women on the radio the other night and they introduced songs by singing them badly and going oh I loooooove this one, felt like poking my ears out. I'm not listening to any kind of BBC radio until the grown ups are back from their holidays.

I agree. I liked the range of guests and hope this doesn't change on the new show.

Yes. I also assumed he was winding down a bit or wanting to do other things. Didn't realised he was only interested in shovelling even more piles of cash into his bank account.

Oh god joe wicks was terrible. It does make you realise there is a skill to it which ahem he does not have bless him.

Annoy · 02/01/2021 20:09

@SmithfamilyRobinson

Just to say that Cat is just a stand in before Claudia Winkleman takes over the show. I love/d Graham but happy to give Claudia a go (unless she bangs on too much about Strictly as that definitely won't be floating my boat!)
I used to love Zoe ball but she bangs on so much about strictly i have to switch off!
Annoy · 02/01/2021 20:13

@Peridot1

I need a new radio station. They all annoy me now.

Still haven’t forgiven them for the whole Drivetime debacle.

I hadn’t realised Graham was going to Virgin. Will have to give that a try.

Me neither! It should have been Steve that went, not mayo! Who in their right minds calls themselves silly boi over the age of 12?!
Standrewsschool · 02/01/2021 20:17

Graham is doing the Saturday and Sunday morning show, so working more, not less. Apparently, he went on Chris Evans show, enjoyed the experience, discovered it was nearer to where he lived, and Chris encouraged him to change.

Annoy · 02/01/2021 20:17

@RoganJosh

Cat Deeley is married to Patrick Kielty!

I did not know that.

I thought she was married to Vernon Kay?
peaceanddove · 02/01/2021 20:23

Jo Wickes was epically bad. He sounded like the Speaking Clock and was obviously reading (painfully) from a script. I never want to experience that ever again Confused

RoganJosh · 02/01/2021 20:26

Vernon Kay is married to Tess Daley, Annoy. Smile

Fizbosshoes · 02/01/2021 20:33

I watched PE with Joe and found a new respect for him. I have since seen him on a couple of talk shows and think he seems incredibly shy and a bit nervous. Not heard him on the radio.

NerrSnerr · 02/01/2021 20:34

I always come on these threads to make sure there's no criticism of Ken. I spend far too much time worrying about what will happen to Popmaster when Ken goes? Will he see it through to the end of that year's champions leave and retire at Christmas and it'll go with him? Really stresses me out thinking about it Grin

I like Sara and I have enjoyed Joe Lycett. Rylan is brilliant and I know it's unpopular to say but I like Richie (and I don't think Ken sounds annoyed with him, he's a bit sarky with everyone).

Ukholidaysaregreat · 02/01/2021 20:41

Haha! Whole thread is confused about who is Tess Daly and Cat Deeley. Tess Daly = northern. Cat Deeley = brummie. Best way to remember. Loved Joe Lycett this week. What's your favourite bin bag? Rubble sack! Love, love Lisa Tarbuck and Rylan on a Saturday. Love Sarah Cox in the week. Love Craig Charles also. Might look for Rev. Richard Coles on a Sat morning.

Whatwouldnanado · 02/01/2021 20:51

Love Lisa, love Rev. Cole, miss Simon and Matt and will follow Graham to Virgin. Always switch off when Alan Carr and Melanie Sykes are on R2. Too much screeching.

MsTSwift · 02/01/2021 21:03

Ken is lovely and very decent. Remember him saying how awful that blurred lines video was and put him in my mental one of the good guys list

That’s how he speaks. It’s not reading from a script, that’s his way of speaking. He’s very shy and seeks approval constantly. He’s endearing in that way.
wowfudge · 02/01/2021 21:25

I had blocked out that awful period where they made Simon Mayo co-host with Jo Whiley. It was god awful and didn't work.

Not Dermot for an afternoon slot - he's a better morning presenter. He was terrible on Saturday afternoons.

BlackCatsRule88 · 02/01/2021 21:33

Oh goodness yes, can’t listen to Alan and Mel, they just don’t sound natural. It sounds like they are reading off a script and it grates.
wowfudge · 02/01/2021 21:37

Joe Wickes' voice doesn't match his looks for me, but he's a lovely guy.

I love Sara Cox. I'm a similar age from near where she was brought up so lots of what she talks about really resonates for me and she's a laugh. There's something about a presenter sharing something of themselves that's really engaging. For me Sara has the edge over Zoe with this and should have got the breakfast gig.
