What makes you un-mumsnetty?

For me

  • I park in parent and child spaces when I have my kids with me. I don't make my life harder by parking in a tiny normal space just in case that childless bloke in the Porsche 911 who runs into Asda like Linford Christie might have a better reason for it than me
  • if I have a bad experience I complain. If I find my £40 steak swimming in fat with a pube in it, I don't refrain from saying anything just in case the chef has had a bad day.
  • I go to the supermarket during the pandemic, I don't leave shaking and sobbing and riddled with guilt over it because I bought a Galaxy. I even take my kids with me.
  • I don't "seethe" if, when the secret Santa budget is £5, I get a Bayliss and Harding gift set. I accept that £5 means limited options and I say thanks, move on and don't take it as a personal alight for years to come. I don't have the hump becauSe they didn't personally whittle a keyring from wood in the oak tree that tenderly grows in their back garden

What makes you unmumsnetty?

I'm still with my dh after he cheated and believe he'll never do it again, we're really happy together and our dc are well adjusted and completely unaffected by it.

That goes down like a lead brick if I dare to mention it. I've even had pm's about it.

Soutiner · 02/01/2021 09:54

I don’t start frothing at the mention of Nestle.

DressingGownofDoom · 02/01/2021 10:03

@RosieGirl27

I have a crushed velvet sofa and bed with grey accessories. I think Boden clothing is frumpy. I have a toilet brush. I eat takeaways at least once a week. I left my DS with my MIL at 4 months old overnight. I’m working class, can you tell 😂
Boden is naff and The White Company is so frumpy too!

I actually think you’re well-represented here, as well as in the general population, it’s just that the governing rhetoric is skewed to LTB and the people who think your position is perfectly reasonable tend to keep schtum.

Which depresses me, as posters regularly describe ‘happy’ marriages to selfish, sexist dullards I wouldn’t stay married to for ten minutes, and will apparently put up with anything — disengaged gamers, men who don’t wash, men who can’t hold a conversation and regard making dinner as an occasional miracle — as long as he’s not shagging Linda from Accounts.

BlackDogBlues · 02/01/2021 10:09

I love a glam wedding with no kids and a free bar.

BLTLover · 02/01/2021 10:38

My 3 year old isnt potty trained
I have a toilet brush
I dont hoover my carpets weekly
I dont give a shit about my exs whereabouts or behaviour
I have a pedigree dog
I'm online dating and find it hilarious
I'm lazy

Doublechins · 02/01/2021 10:45

Oh I have another..We didn't shut ourselves away when our babies were born and welcomed people coming round to meet them and have a cuddle as soon as they wanted.

BLTLover · 02/01/2021 10:50

I formula fed and didn't even consider breast feeding

GlummyMcGlummerson · 02/01/2021 10:52

I let strangers reach in the pram and stroke my baby, I didn't have a nervous breakdown about it. I even let one random woman (around 60) hold DD in a restaurant while I ate when DD was a few weeks old and all I wanted was a hot meal

I think asking for money or a donation towards the honeymoon for a wedding gift is absolutely fine.

heathergem · 02/01/2021 10:57

My roast chicken dinner lasts exactly one meal & feeds 4 of us.

NoWordForFluffy · 02/01/2021 10:57

I think child-free weddings with evening only guests and a pay bar are wrong on all levels.

Isn't that being very mumsnetty?

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 02/01/2021 11:06

I have literally no idea how to do my eyebrows

My kid lives off sausage sandwiches

I couldn't give a shit about having a high-flying career.

I'm the house in the street with the really untidy lawn.

PoppiesinOctober · 02/01/2021 11:13

Sorry, I love this thread Grin some more:

I don't live in a 'naice' village in the middle of nowhere with neighbours who come round with wine and chocolate when you move in. I don't even know my neighbours bar a 'hello' and i'm happy with that.

I love Primark

I eat far more than a bowl of oatmeal, a rice cake, and a salad for dinner - and i'm somehow still a size 8-10!

If I had children, I wouldn't care if they played or watched films with the age specification much older than they were (I was allowed to do this, never negatively impacted me)

I love fizzy drinks

I have a toilet brush, and i'm very happy with it

Onlyherefortheconspiracies · 02/01/2021 11:15

I'm not a mum
I single by choice and horrified daily at what women tolerate to keep a man
I have a clean and tidy house
I'm working class
I drink lots of cider and prosecco
My neighbours are sweet
I don't drive (or cadge lifts) Taxis and public transport work fine
I'm not scared of Covid
I buy new clothes and love a hot holiday

Despite all that I love it here as it's like looking at a completely different world.

midsomermurderess · 02/01/2021 11:17

As with other posters, I never cook anything that involves chucking, bunging, slinging or throwing. I have never made 'spag bol' or 'jackets' or used 'tinned toms'.

thebabessavedme · 02/01/2021 11:43

I don't like dogs

I think some kids are just whiny little shits without any 'special needs' apart from a slap round the legs.

I think there are some teachers who actively dislike children.

thebabessavedme · 02/01/2021 11:45

oh, and I don't faint or LTB when he has drunk too much and got a hangover.

halpplz483 · 02/01/2021 11:47

I think you can love someone and still want a big wedding and be in it for the right reasons.

I think gender disappointment is normal and deserves a sympathetic response

Soutiner · 02/01/2021 11:49

I hate sudocream. It’s a tub of greasy nastiness.

PopcornAndWine · 02/01/2021 11:53

DH and I don't 'pool' everything. We split expenses roughly between us, but we still each have our own money. Contrary to what seems to be the prevailing view on MN, I don't think doing it this way makes us any less of a 'team' or 'partnership'.

Toilet brushes - I have been lucky enough to miss all the toilet brush threads. But seriously, how to people scrape shit off their toilets without them?

I don't think having more than one glass of wine while my child is asleep makes me a terribly irresponsible parent.

I occasionally post pictures of my child to my very small number of friends on Facebook which makes me evil incarnate according to a lot of MN. Also intrigued to see several people post on this thread that they don't use social media - MN seems extremely anti social media to me!

DressingGownofDoom · 02/01/2021 12:02

I like that my DH has a hobby, I can't think of anything more drippy than a boring DH hanging around the house all weekend. Fuck off out on your bike mate and give me some peace.

Newdonewhugh · 02/01/2021 12:55

@GlummyMcGlummerson haha I did this once. Went to a restaurant and a women came for a look at the baby. She ended up holding him right over the other side of the restaurant for about 20 minutes while I ate my meal in peace, heaven.
Unlike Mumsnetters, I actually think anybody that wants to admire, love, touch your child is a blessing.

carlaCox · 02/01/2021 12:55

It does and yet I've seen about a million threads complaining about something someone has put on Facebook. Yawn. If it offends you that much just get rid of it.

SausageCrush · 02/01/2021 12:59

I thought zoflora was a type of margarine Blush
