Yoga with Adriene 30 days of yoga

Is anyone going to be doing Adriene’s 30 days of yoga in January? The theme this year is breath. I did this last year and really loved it. I didn’t manage it every day so it took me til February but I am really pleased I did it and have been doing regular yoga ever since.

Thankyou. This has given me the push I need to sign up.

Superspecs · 01/01/2021 16:33

Definitely good for beginners! And they vary from 16-48 minutes.

itssquidstella · 01/01/2021 16:58

It's really good for beginners. I find a lot of Adriene's videos too slow-paced (and she waffles a LOT), so I only really engage with her in January, but it's great to have a daily incentive to practice.

I've signed up! I've done yoga on and off but am looking forward to committing to this for January :)

What did we think of day 1? I thought she assumed quite a lot of knowledge of yoga terminology and also a higher base level of fitness than in some of her previous courses - I’ve persuaded my mum to give it a try but I think she'll struggle with the instant down dog and planks, especially as Adriene doesn't really cue easier modifications in this video.

jess3817 · 02/01/2021 13:18

I've done day 1 - loved it.

DDiva · 02/01/2021 14:18

Thanks for posting this I've signed up.

I do pilates regularly but struggle with the flexibility in yoga.

I found this good although it was a bit more advanced than I expected. I couldnt hold the poses for the length expected even with my pilates experience.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 02/01/2021 14:29

I love yoga with Adrienne.
Her foundations of yoga series is really good for working through individual positions for beginners too.

TammyTwoSwanson · 02/01/2021 16:54

I just did day 1 and found it very difficult about half an hour in. My poor wrists! Also I have a reflux so being upside down folded in half for so long almost made me throw up. Will I get used to it or should I be modifying stuff?

Tickledtrout · 02/01/2021 17:04

Did today's. I enjoyed it. If in doubt @TammyTwoSwanson rest in a sustainable pose - table top or child pose and join in again when you can.

Orf1abc · 02/01/2021 17:08

Tammy, modify! I've got arthritis in my hands, sometimes I'll balance on my fists instead, sometimes I'll just go to extended child's pose.

For anyone new, I'd scan through the video first so you can get an idea for each position. You can pause and modify as much as you need to, it's all part of the journey.

Can anyone recommend a yoga teacher/series/class for someone with bad knees? I can't get up &diwn off the floor as I can't put any weight on my knees.

I tried her sitting yoga but couldn't do much of it as I can't place one foot on the other knee/thigh.

I can stand up ok & bend relatively well for a human teletubby

'Breathing' sounds like a goid plan & id like to join in, but literally cannot get on the floor or up again without doing myself a serious injury.

TIA

angorarabbit · 02/01/2021 17:23

I've joined as a beginner. She does explain clearly but I've no idea if I'm doing it right! Also can be hard to watch (on my phone) when I'm supposed to be closing my eyes/looking down. but hopefully I'll stick with it Halo

Tickledtrout · 02/01/2021 17:57
Try this @WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants
CleanQueen123 · 02/01/2021 20:26

I've just done day 1! My reflux was playing up this evening so potentially it wasn't the right sequence for me because of all the folding in half, but I got through it!

I feel really energised now Smile

VenusStarr · 02/01/2021 20:33

I've just done day 1, really enjoyed it. The time flew by as well :)

@angorarabbit can you cast it to your TV? I did that and it was much easier than trying to see my phone.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 02/01/2021 22:42

@Tickledtrout. Thank you for that, I'll have a look in the morning 😀

ladybranstonpickle · 03/01/2021 10:06

Did day 1 last night! Felt good but I do struggle with twists, I think I'm too tubby around the middle!

It's very clever to put the longest practice on the first day when everyone's motivation is highest 😝.

Well done everyone. Looking forward to tonight's practice.

Superspecs · 03/01/2021 11:15

It was good to get into day 1, though I found it a little slow and was not keen on all the forward folding! I also did it late in the evening when I was hungry for my tea! Today I will try to schedule it better.

Here's an article I found about Adriene, it's behind a paywall I'm afraid www.thetimes.co.uk/article/adriene-mishler-yoga-interview-p995nvtvb

Rainbows89 · 03/01/2021 20:40

I just did day one. I did find it slow to begin with but then I got into it.

I couldn’t do all of it but I remember from the last time I did it that I really did see progress over the 30 days. So even if you can’t do it all just follow along as best you can and I think you will still see benefit.

CleanQueen123 · 03/01/2021 21:26

Did anyone else find day 2 a bit hard to follow? I lost what I was doing in the middle because I couldn't find the instruction in her constant chatter. All that "dial it down/back" nonsense. By the time my brain caught up with what she said she'd already moved on to another position.

I will accept I came to the mat in not a very good mood though so I'm prepared to be told IABU Grin

PumpkinWitch · 03/01/2021 22:11

I have only managed day one so far. I think it does seem to need a higher level of fitness than previous years. The breath focus means we are going to have a lot of slow starts with finding your breath I will have to motivate myself to focus as I usually skip to the active bit.
I also have sore wrists so I sometimes modify by making a fist.

Liked day 2 but I tend to prefer the practices where you get straight into it, too. This will prob be good for me.

Only ones I'm not usually keen on are day 6 (abs, gaaaah) and the last day where she doesn't speak. Prefer voice cues to squinting at my phone from downward dog.

Tickledtrout · 03/01/2021 23:07

I'm happy to go with the flow. Day two done. Turning up every day is the goal for me this year. If I can't attain every position, or hold it for very long then that's just the way it is.
Back to work tomorrow. That's when the real challenge begins

JustNotFunAnymore · 04/01/2021 09:05

I started this morning, as a complete novice I found it really good but I did struggle sitting cross legged for the first part! I had to stop before the end as I got the timings wrong with the first back to school get up! (And my five year old slept in!)
I'm off to finish the last 15 minutes now.
Feeling pretty good.
