On ITV he just said that there will be more tier 4 areas and schools are being discussed by the Education Secretary before the big announcement today. So my guess is that primary schools will have more restrictions than before. I don’t expect them to open next week.

Yesterday sky news website said 3pm statement in Parliament. Gonna keep eye on this though as their schedule includes brexit stuff so not exactly a quiet parliamentary day !

There was no restriction to an hour day. It was an off the cuff suggestion, I think by Gove, in an interview. It was never a rule.

Whilst I agree with you its pretty difficult to know what is fake news when you have a government in power which constantly briefs via back channels, twitter and "leaks" instead of through proper channels of communications. It would also help if the bloody cabinet understood their own policies and didn't contradict each other when interviewed.

He didn't mean they are scrapping tiers, he means they're not introducing a Tier 5, as has been reported. More areas will be going into Tier 4 today.

I heard this interview. The OP's headline is very misleading. He said he would not be announcing additional tiers today but more areas would change tiers. He did not say schools would not be closing.

He said he's not introducing "more" tiers. So no tier 5, tier 6, tier 721......

But he will be moving people between tiers.

It's worse that that perfect28 because lots of us have also heard Matt Hancock being interviewed this morning where he said nothing of the sort. It's not a matter of her trusting what he says, it's a matter of her completely misunderstanding it.

Presumably they could also change the rules for Tier 4, so we could end up with effectively new tiers even if they're still called Tiers 1-4?

Given that Gavin W wants them to return as much as possible as usual that surely means as the OP says?

I suppose his true meaning depends on where he put the emphasis.

Or
