Happy New Year to you all. Here's hoping that it will be better because it couldn't be any worse. Love and Flowers to all who are struggling.

Reedwarbler · 31/12/2020 19:51

I have just put in a complaint to the BBC about their 'blood on their hands' report. I think it's really bad, and I seriously doubt that person is an actual doctor. The more people that complain the better. Scaremongering of the highest order.

Nevertoomanyroasties · 31/12/2020 19:56

@DominaShantotto do let uni know youre under a lot of pressure. In my department we are being very lenient with extensions and extenuating circumstances on assignments. I've had a lot of students come to me who have overwhelming pressures at work and with kids and struggling and I've agreed for them to have lengthy extensions as I'm in the same boat so I get it!

Sadly I think it CAN be worse - it's more toxic, more vicious than ever - with shitter weather and crapper TV (I mean Mrs Browns Boys - have we not suffered enough?)

If I didn't have kids I'd be getting pissed and ending it at the thought of what's to come.

@Reedwarbler I made a complaint about that too. It overstepped several marks in my opinion. I accept that doctors have a viewpoint and an opinion. But that was vituperative victim-blaming, pure and simple.

DS heard today from his boarding sixth form that he won’t be going back for an extra week, he has already been at home nearly a month, with rotten weather, not allowed to meet friends and everything closed. The college were fully ready for the return with testing in place for rebubbling, I feel so sad for him.

I have had one of those days where I don’t feel sure that I can keep going, we are Tier 4 here and were already Tier 3 before that, every day seems the same, trudging round the same muddy paths 🙁 I am so grateful for my animals because I have to get up to see to them and get out to walk with the dogs every day.

amicissimma · 31/12/2020 20:56

I have just been listening to the Telegraph's Planet Normal podcast.

They remarked that they had to check out their sources and make as sure as possible that people are who they claim to be, unlike, say an internet parenting forum.

They were quoting an NHS employee, who asked them to use a pseudonym, who said that hospital bed occupancy is 85% compared to 92% over the same period last year and that occupancy of ICU is 75%, which is good for this time of year.

So, conflicting reports, although surely it varies around the country. And I've been hearing for years people complaining that their loved ones were sent to a hospital elsewhere in the country which made visiting hard. So sending patients to where there is space is nothing new.

Happy New Year to all of you Flowers Flowers

Curlygirl06 · 31/12/2020 21:24

Happy new year everyone. I'm in bed with a trapped nerve in my back, bloody great.

TabbyStar · 31/12/2020 22:06

Happy new year! It's all doing my head in a bit tonight. Let's hope things are a bit better going into January.

Anotherpointofview1 · 31/12/2020 22:11

I'm afraid I've bitten on the '20 people having a party' thread. I just can't bear it any more. The fucking sick individuals who think nothing else matters. The emoting about a&e as if its never happened before. The making you feel like you're a monster if you think anything but that its thenworst thing in the world ever.

Nevertoomanyroasties · 31/12/2020 22:26

That thread is ridiculous! And one where posters are unable to understand how statistics are calculated and determined that people who have slightly long toenails or whatever random underlying condition are definitely going to die.

TabbyStar · 31/12/2020 22:30

Yeah, that's what's doing my head in. I was chatting with some medical people on Twitter who were trying to get back to working but registering and then not being called, or having an enormous amount of bureaucracy (e.g. having to go on equality and diversity and Prevent training) that was stopping them, it's this sort of shit that's leaving the NHS in a state, not a few people standing on a drive. Someone posted pictures of teenagers standing in a group the street on our local FB page. People have gone mad.

Good news though, more covid patients have been discharged than admitted!

There is a house in the road up from us but their garden reaches down to our road, a big local developer lots of money put on the most incredible firework display tonight think he hired professionals it was big bangs which terrified the dog and cat. DS just gave me a list of people he knows on instagram talking about this amazing party they were at lots of pictures. I wonder if anyone will report them. He has a reputation for getting revenge so it would be a brave person who would rattle that cage. Grin

Willow2017 · 31/12/2020 22:56

Not on Mn much as cant stand the fact that covid is mentioned everywhere and the ignorant haters are still spewing out ill informed garbage.

Just popping in to wish you all a Happy New Year and hope that the next one is 100 times better than this shit storm. Wishing you all health and happiness for the coming year, god knows we all deserve it. KBO. I will try to keep up with you all more in future.

Iheartmysmart · 31/12/2020 23:49

Happy new year everyone Wine Gin 2020 can you just bugger off now please.

MercyBooth · 01/01/2021 00:13

Happy New Year everyone. Flowers

Having been teetotal for many years ive just had Baileys for the very first time. Never had it before. Its fucking rank.

99victoria · 01/01/2021 00:31

I've just been on the Fireworks thread to say that OH and I went outside at midnight and enjoyed some fireworks going off near to us.

I'm absolutely staggered at the vitriol, anger and rage that people are displaying on the thread. I don't know how it can be good for people to have so much anger over fairly inconsequential matters. It must be exhausting!

AcornAutumn · 01/01/2021 00:35

Just hopped on to say Happy New Year.

The fireworks have made me totes emosh...never stop partying Londoners!

Justgivemewine · 01/01/2021 00:37

Happy New Year everyone.

@MercyBooth. I’ll happily liberate you from your Baileys 😄

BogRollBOGOF · 01/01/2021 00:46

I can't bring myself to say the customary greeting, but I do believe that after a slow start, 2021 will be a better year with things like holidays and events to look forwards to by the summer. Life will get far more normal again.

Had the TV on for about 3 minutes for the bongs and quickly switched it off as some Vogonesque bad poetry was about to start.
In good news I won Monopoly which was curtailed to one hour for sanity as my DCs would drag it out until 3am Grin

NeedWineNow · 01/01/2021 01:05

We’re still going on the gin watching Jools Holland. Starting 2021 as we mean to go on 😀

TheOrchidKiller · 01/01/2021 01:37

Picked DD up from work at 11pm. Not a soul was out. It was quite eerie.

I traditionally open the front & back doors to let the new year in the front & the old year out the back (my grandad used to do it). Managed the front door -a few neighbours were sensibly watching fireworks in their front gardens- but the cat woke up & freaked out so I spent a lot of time calming him down, & didn't get round to opening the back door.

2020 is still in my house!!!!!

Thank god I'm not actually superstitious.

TheOrchidKiller · 01/01/2021 01:39

And I agree, that thing on BBC1 with the poems was sickly.
Oh well, onwards we go...

MercyBooth · 01/01/2021 01:59

@Justgivemewine i had no idea that stuff was so SHARP.
