I’m watching a program about Scottish wildlife. There is an injured otter cub.

Waiting for my shopping delivery. It is delayed due to a puncture, but the driver phoned to say he will be here soon.

QuestionableMouse · 09/01/2021 19:43

Took my dog on a slightly different route today and really regretted it. Ice everywhere. It was awful. We gave in and came home. Stopped to let him have a run in my field (rented, not something I own) and he wasn't really interested. I think the ground is too cold for his feet so I've ordered some boots.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 09/01/2021 19:45

@Frownette yes blue bins which go out one week and the other week is black and Brown. Blue is recycling, black is general and Brown is food waste and garden cuttings. Just checked and not lifted yet. Local fb tells me that the bin men were on strike / work to rule during the week so all bins are a day or two out of synch. Due to an interim arrangement having been agreed the next strike action dare at the end of the month is cancelled but could be reinstated if needed. (This fits the theme of the thread)

Went to see my 91yr old Dad this morning for coffee and to keep him cheerful. Came home and had lunch and then mainly slept and watched random true crime stuff on the laptop. I felt very tired today. Made supper with DD - we had Linda McCartney crispy duck pancakes and hoisin sauce with lots of veggies. Lovely.

DD is now going on a walk with a pal and is going to get me some wine and a choccy bar on the way home. She is 20 so it is legal.

SpudsandGravy · 09/01/2021 19:55

Elderly aunt who's been shielding with sister through lockdown fell on Wednesday and after 7.5 hours on the floor waiting for ambulance is now in hospital being assessed. I had my facial BCC removed for the second time y/day (was found to be infiltrating first time round, and not all gone) so have spent very lazy day in PJs on sofa with hot water bottles, naughty food and lots of Netflix/Prime (mainly Gray's Anatomy). Now waiting to be a bit hungry again so that I can eat chicken and stuffing sandwiches.

iklboo · 09/01/2021 19:56

We had mac n cheese hot dogs for tea with garlic wedges. It was very nice.

Taswama · 09/01/2021 20:04

I realised I only had 2 sets of contact lenses left a couple of days ago. The opticians told me they were in the post. They hadn't turned up by this morning so I decided to go into town after lunch and ask them to give me some. They turned up at lunchtime, but I kept my glasses on for the rest of the day anyway.

Champagneforeveryone · 09/01/2021 20:12

DDog1 has rallied a little but is staying in for a second night. Including the emergency appointment on Thursday we're currently at £800 - it's probably a good job there's no holidays to go on Grin

In duller news, DS and I have had Heinz tomato soup and tiger bread for dinner as I could not motivate myself to anything fancier. I'm now wondering why we don't have it more often Wink

EggyPegg · 09/01/2021 22:10

@Champagneforeveryone, I'm glad to hear that he's rallying. I hope he has a more settled night.

We have tiger bread in. DS2 had avocado on tiger bread toast for breakfast this morning and it looks so good that I had tiger bread and avocado sandwiches for lunch.

Welcome @Bouledeneige, how were the duck-less pancakes? I'm veggie but I don't tend to eat much LMc as it taste too meaty for me.

Welcome @SpudsandGravy, what season are you up to on Grey's? I'm a couple of seasons behind now.

@iklboo, what are Mac and cheese hot dogs? I fancy Mac and cheese now. I've not had it properly for years.

@QuestionableMouse. Boots for the dog? I will need to see pictures when they arrive please.

I'm in bed. I have a sleepy EggyCat2 leaning on me and I'm going to read my book. You can tell it's cold as she goes outside long enough to do her business and then comes straight back in these days. Come spring she'll be outside 22 hours of the day.

Are the ones I've ordered. I will include some video of him in them because I have no doubt it'll be funny. He really does need them though.

I read that takeaways may get closed sobs and so we got a Chinese takeaway. I did wonder about stockpiling 10,000 Chinese meals. Had sweet and sour king prawns and mixed fried rice and coke. Was lovely. Co-op was shut as internet down so no cash machine to pay for Chinese so they said to pay whenever. DH managed to get the £4 extra needed from coins around house.

Still going in circles on house sale about an access road which is not an access road to our house but buyers solicitor keeps saying it is and we keep saying its not.

DD has been telling me about a new 6th form starting up specialising in maths but not taking students yet.

Frownette · 09/01/2021 22:22

Yeah I wondered about takeaways.

I really wanted to visit a friend, and I'm getting pressure on to visit my support bubble, just very unsure what I can/cannot do. I think I can visit support bubble and stand outside and find out what shopping they want.

The death rate is shocking though

MissConductUS · 09/01/2021 22:41

@Frownette - I'm sorry to hear that you're under the weather. I've been a bit poorly for the last two days myself.

Welcome, @Bouledeneige, @SpudsandGravy, and @iklboo and thanks for sharing your delightfully dull news. And Thank you Eggy for rolling out the welcome mat on behalf of us all. I fear I've been a rather poor hostess for the last few days. I didn't really expect to lose half my Saturday at the medical center. My lovely GP said she'd call ring me as soon as she sees the echocardiogram report.

I had to google tiger bread. It looks delicious. It's grilled burgers here tonight. Thankfully I get to relax while the men make diner.

Closing takeaways would be a fairly severe public health measure.

I'm sorry to hear that you're unwell @MissConductUS. Did you get your nap?

Frownette · 09/01/2021 22:53

@MissConductUS I'm sure we'll perk up soon :) Is the weather bitter there?

Deliveries should be allowed to continue but we'll have to see about food collections.

Bouledeneige · 09/01/2021 22:54

Thanks for the mention. I have joined the thread before when I said I'd organised Sylvanians in a basket. I recall it caused a (very) mild stir. I would post the picture again but I don't want to raise any pulses.

Frownette · 09/01/2021 22:58

Sylvanians...? People can get wound up at times Grin

MissConductUS · 09/01/2021 23:01

Correction, it was an electrocardiogram I had today, not an echo. She's referring me to a cardiologist in the group next week for an echo. I'm either still having an adverse reaction to the new med, which has a very long half-life, or I'm fighting some kind of virus. Neither is particularly concerning at this point. The cardio tests are because there is sometimes a structural component to hypertension, like a heart valve not working correctly. She is very, very thorough, which I appreciate, particularly as some GP's will just fob you off rather than doing a proper differential diagnosis.

I had a rest rather than a nap Eggy. I watched a bit of Netflix lying down for a bit, which was still lovely.

In March we had no takeaways for a couple of months here - no deliveries here as rural but the village baker stayed open and the pub did food parcels to buy which DS was very excited about as he said it was restaurant meat, not sure it was any different to supermarket / butcher meat but DS thought it was very fancy. At least we now have the milk frother so can have daily hot chocolate with frothy milk.

MissConductUS · 10/01/2021 00:47

@Frownette - Sorry, I missed your question earlier about the weather. It has been bitter cold here recently, about -8 overnight and 4 during the day.

Fear not, thread watchers, I am about to start a new one, like an elf in the night for you lot. Grin

Yes it's cold here too, don't think it's as cold as your region at nights, but it's been 2° some days.
