@Spudlet your little boy (am I right in remembering he recently had a birthday? 6? Sorry if I've got the wrong age.. ) looks happy with his space themed box and you can certainly tick art off the subject list for a bit!

I second twinkl- they have resources for all ages and abilities under all subject headings.

DP cooked an omelette earlier, but I was asleep so I missed it.

I really want a Chinese this weekend (food @MissConductUS Wink) but DP is on a new fitness regime - I'll have to make him think it was his idea in the first place.. Any tips for doing this successfully?

EggyPegg · 08/01/2021 00:52

Sorry to hear that DDog1 is poorly @Champagneforeveryone. I too need to know how his tripping is manifesting itself.

I'd rather have pizza than Chinese. And I'm in the pro pineapple camp.

@soddingkitten, Sodding is absolutely gorgeous!

Excellent news about the fat balls @kittlesticks

Silkiechickscat · 08/01/2021 01:22

Sorry to hear about the dog Champagne and the vets bills, we've had some pretty horrendous ones for Silkiecat around £1,000 as she is rather vocal but the vet found nothing wrong with her so its just a lot of catittude with her.

I'm not very keen on pizza nor is DH and DS totally refuses but DD loves. I do like pineapple on pizza and fruit in food which DH is Hmm about. Food is a very serious matter for him being French. Chinese I would eat every day given the choice though I suspect its nothing like the food in China and I'ld probably get diabetes pretty fast.

Speaking of giving myself diabetes pretty fast DH, DS and I all had hot chocolate made with real chocolate and milk made in DH's new SMEG milk frother, it was very good. Though added to the 120g of fudge I ate today its probably best not to calculate my sugar intake today. I'm now drinking hot milk. DH is on his phone.

mathanxiety · 08/01/2021 06:13

We had Italian sausage lasagne tonight, with chopped spinach added.

Dcat sat on my lap for half an hour. I feel so honoured. DD4 is her favourite person most evenings.

Love that photo of Sodding, @soddingkitten.

Sad news of Ddog, @Champagneforeveryone.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 08/01/2021 06:22

champagne Hope your dog recovers well.
sodding And the picture of kitten cheered me up as usual Smile

7:17 am here and I am preparing to go to our GP with DS to have his bloods taken.
And after a massive melt down yesterday I need to speak to him and his relevant teachers about repeating the year, which will involve a total restructuring of his day.
I am not looking forward to this, but as the saying goes "Watt mutt, datt mutt" (What must be done, will be done).

Spudlet · 08/01/2021 08:11

@Champagneforeveryone Ouch at the vets bill 😬 Hope ddog is on the mend soon (and enjoyed his drugs in the meantime)!

Thank you everyone that has offered thoughts and ideas and kind wishes for DS. I am really proud of how he’s managing. He’s only just turned 5, it’s so young to deal with all of this. His class mums WhatsApp group is awash with children melting down, not coping - one saying they don’t have any friends anymore because you can’t be friends with someone you can’t play with 😢 Their class teachers are doing their best with the situation but it’s so hard on them. And these are relatively privileged children - tiny, close knit rural school, everyone seems to have devices that can access these sessions, to have warm and clean homes, stable families. How children in less comfortable situations are coping is impossible to imagine. We will carry on muddling through as best we can and hope that, like last time, the youngest children get to go back as soon as possible because it’s clear that all of them need to be at school, with each other.

Therainisback · 08/01/2021 08:36

I have taken to making a nice coffee in my new flask to take to work. It makes me very happy to sip good coffee whilst going through the emails. Small pleasuresSmile

Frownette · 08/01/2021 10:08

@Therainisback I love making up a flask of something. I used to enjoy walking from the coast to city (about 5 hours walk) and sipping sweet tea at intervals from my flask, but loos were scarce along the route so only sips!

I should imagine they're all shut at present so I'm not doing anything like that again until lockdown is over.

Just had some red grapefruit. I'm nearly set up with work computer now although haven't managed to get hold of IT yet.

It's tricky Spudlet, I really can't imagine being in education in today's climate. Didn't realise DS was so young.

BaconAndAvocado · 08/01/2021 10:30

DD age 12 has just got back from a run with her friend saying she feels sick. I think it’s just the cold and the shock to her system. She’s now asleep on the sofa after I fed her some dry crackers and water.

DS age 14 is getting stuck into his remote learning. He was up very early to do his paper round.

I’m still in my PJs, trying to find some motivation to go and get showered......

The mist and frost are beautiful this morning ❤️

Frownette · 08/01/2021 11:01

It was lovely yesterday morning @BaconAndAvocado, quite sunny but frost still on the ground. I sat out for a while to enjoy it

Frownette · 08/01/2021 11:13

And my neighbour gave me some eye cream yesterday. I can be quite hostile and not very gracious about unexpected gifts so I just eyed it askance and left it on a table, not even sure I said thank you.

I probably do need it though! Personal phone is now linked to work computer, is this a bad thing? Still can't get hold of IT and I'm sure office 365 shouldn't take this long to set up

forgetthehousework · 08/01/2021 11:21

We're having a quiet day today, but I will get dressed ... eventually.

Sunbird24 · 08/01/2021 11:42

I’ve been out for a short walk, it’s not that cold if you keep moving, but am now treating myself to a hot chocolate with a small splash of rum in it 😊

BaconAndAvocado · 08/01/2021 11:46

Sunbird that sounds very delicious.
I might do the same although I haven't been for a walk so probably don't deserve one!

Frownette · 08/01/2021 11:46

@Sunbird24 that sounds nice. I'm still trying to get through to IT as it shouldn't take over half an hour to get set up. I'm just staring at an orange screen saying we're getting things ready. This sort of thing could drive you demented.

Why can't you get a cat?

Orangeblossom77777 · 08/01/2021 11:59

Went for a walk in the park and it felt a bit fresher out and less frosty than yesterday.

Sunbird24 · 08/01/2021 12:11

@Frownette not allowed pets in my current accommodation, but hopefully I’ll be able to move out this year to somewhere that I can. I have fostered a couple of cats before, which I loved.

Frownette · 08/01/2021 12:41

@Sunbird24 I lost my little love few years back. I can't get another cat here either but hopefully you can in due course :)

MissConductUS · 08/01/2021 12:51

Good morning happy people of the thread. I'm on a bit early for me because I'm wfh today and about to nip out for a quick shop before working hours start.

Welcome @BaconAndAvocado (fab user name btw) and thanks for your news. Has your DD run before or not run recently? It's best to ease into it.

Welcome, @Orangeblossom77777, and thanks for your news. This thread is turning into more of a fitness thread every day.

@kittlesticks - We have at least 4 pizza places near us that are really good but haven't gotten takeoutaway pizza since last March. It's really easy to make at home, especially if you buy the dough and sauce as we do.

@Spudlet - I also assumed that your DS was a bit older. Just turned five is too young for Teams, no wonder he struggled with it.

@Frownette - the software for O365 is massive and takes a very long time to download, depending on the speed of your internet connection. Then it takes a very long time to download all of your old emails to Outlook.

I was pleased but a bit surprised to see in the news that the UK has just approved the Moderna vaccine. I just assumed you had done so weeks ago.

OP posts:
Frownette · 08/01/2021 13:23

Oh I have no idea about vaccines. Don't think I can take them anyway due to low white blood cell count and allergy, need to check with GP.

Computer is currently playing two songs overlaid and I'm staring at it in horror. It's not nice hearing two songs at once. The coding is also showing on the right hand side. It's just started a police song with god knows what in the background. I really need IT I have no idea what's going on, it's an assault on the ears

Sheusedtobesomeonelse · 08/01/2021 13:48

Dipping back in these threads after the christmas break and a manic week back at work (ing from home).

Very very cold here -8° yesterday morning for my 11,5 km run!

Pushed the hoover round and cleaned the bathroom last night, now the christmas decorations are down its nice to get back to normal! Have a load of washing to hang out to dry but still have some emails to send before the weekend can start!

Nice seeing everyone is calm and dull still Smile

Silkiechickscat · 08/01/2021 13:59

This is on the vaccines though some versions of the timetable are very aspirational rather than likely- there are several different timelines around:

Having quite a good day with DS and remote learning. For the first time since March he took the laptop off me and typed and communicated with his class by himself. I didn't say anything but was very happy he did that. It was the most boring lesson ever it happened in, doing scales on a map by a maths teacher with a monotone slow voice. Also did computing, English and French so far. Science to go.

Just about to have lunch. No news on house sale, think progressing but very slowly.

Frownette · 08/01/2021 14:01

@Sheusedtobesomeonelse well I'm very dull but not calm at present! I want this blasted computer to work. It seems to have a mind of it's own.

Sheusedtobesomeonelse · 08/01/2021 14:07

@Frownette : i dont think computers and calm can go in the same sentance, especially whensetting things up.. when i first started WFH in March it took me an age to get everything sorted! Have a calming hot drink whilst you look at each other, no news from your IT?

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 08/01/2021 14:12

@Frownette - Try cleaning your keyboard that's supposed to be calming...

I have just found out that when I fit a second monitor to my PC (so I can actually see what I am doing) the telephone software no longer works.
No, IT does not know why and suggested I write to get a ticket. So I decided to stop working (it's my free day anyway) and start the weekend.
