What are you a snob about?

I would say for me soda , can't buy the cheap versions of coke.

OP posts:
ginislife · 26/12/2020 09:24

Real butter - like a PP I'd pass if a sandwich was made with margarine. Yuk

Bone china mugs for tea. The tea tastes better the thinner the china

Spelling - sorry but I judge. It tends to be obvious if it's a fat finger error rather than just can't spell, use punctuation, or string a sentence together. And yes, I'm shallow (and I'm the same about tattoos, I judge sorry)

I do tend to buy branded over unbranded and I'm a Waitrose/M&S/Tesco/Sainsburys shopper over any other

Hah, I'm such a snob and I really don't care.
**@EddieVeddersfoxymop I am a keyboard player and IMO anything not Yamaha is substandard... Grin
Yes, @AlternativePerspective!! Agreed! Its Taylor in our house ha ha Grin

flipperdoda · 26/12/2020 09:26

All shoes and some pieces of outdoor kit. The ones I think are most important i.e. boots, coats, bikes, walking socks. Fleeces and t-shirts I'm not snobby, just like comfy ones made out of a decent wicking fabric.

I'm not sure I'd judge other people for the brands of their waterproofs and shoes though! I judge based on inappropriate choices if I know they have the appropriate choices i.e. get stuck out in the rain on a mountain without the waterproof that's in their hallway...but that's more because if they do something really stupid when I'm with them I'll end up responsible for trying to warm them up/get them down safely/deal with it. I'm selfish Grin

My teenage son must be really low class . He loves Richmond sausages above “real” ones. He also loves pot noodles . It’s food of a sort that is ready in less than 5 minutes and no washing up !

yellowhighheels · 26/12/2020 09:31

solid wood vintage furniture which i couldn't afford new versions of, quality clothes in natural fabrics. I would much rather buy second hand than cheaper.

Heinz beans and ketchup or not at all.

roastedpudding · 26/12/2020 09:32

@groovergirl

Chocolate snob. Must have Green & Black 70-85% or something from Haigh's, our local chocolatier. Never sickly sweet Cadbury or greasy, tasteless Lindt!
Green and blacks is Cadbury's though, didn't they buy them ? It's not posh.
MsTSwift · 26/12/2020 09:32

I do think tastes change as you get older. Also once you experience the better things it’s hard to go back.

Even the eggs at m and s are better. I used to be happy in Lidl and feel smug at how little I spent on food now I go in there and shudder.

roastedpudding · 26/12/2020 09:33

@FluffyHippo

People less educated than me. The underclass.
What are your qualifications ?
EssentialHummus · 26/12/2020 09:37

Other people's parenting.

Sgtmajormummy · 26/12/2020 09:38

A weird one: table settings.
I have and use the right cutlery for most dishes, so no soup from dessert spoons. And the kids know how to lay everything (glasses etc.) in the right place.
I have several sets of dishes, including Christmas ones, and get slightly upset if they don’t match on the table.
I’ve also been known to lift plates in restaurants to look at the make or shout out what’s being used on screen (Gentleman Jack= Spode!).

I blame it on DM who had a Saturday job in Schofield’s China DepartmentGrin.

userxx · 26/12/2020 09:41

Cars. Saying that I'm not a snob about it, I don't look down my nose at other people but personally I like to have a nice car.

Sgtmajormummy · 26/12/2020 09:42

I also have the right knives for the job and know how to sharpen them, but that’s just pride in a job done well.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 26/12/2020 09:45

Cars, but the opposite way. BMWs and Mercedes are style over substance, over priced and under deliver.
Christmas lights must be white and they can twinkle, but not flash. Static is preferable.
Yarn must be merino or cashmere and soft. Acrylic catches on your fingers.
Italian coffee beans
When Ocado changed from Waitrose to M&S, it all went to shite. No Ocado or M&S here.
Underwear. Bras must be from Rigby and Peller and purchased in the sale. I’d rather pay £70 for a bra that lasts for years, than £25 for one that doesn’t fit properly, is uncomfortable and falls apart after a few months.

Fizbosshoes · 26/12/2020 09:47

Diet coke - i dont even like coca cola light when (in the past life) I have been abroad

Heinz Tomato Ketchup

Hellmans mayonnaise

Chocolate - hotel chocolate, lindt or galaxy.

Everything else I'll buy own brands.

KitKatastrophe · 26/12/2020 09:48

Sausages. Richmond skinless ones are the work of the devil 🤢 they've got to be 80% meat or more.

Grognonne · 26/12/2020 09:49

Coffee - proper beans only
Gin - none of the flavoured rubbish
Mayonnaise - proper stuff like Delouis or homemade. Hellman’s and the like are vile, why is it white? It looks like glue!!
Meat, milk, and eggs - free range and organic, hate the thought of factory farmed
Pasta - De Cecco only!

IamMariahScarey · 26/12/2020 09:51

My toiletries!

EggnogAndAMincepie · 26/12/2020 09:52

Most of the food I buy is the value stuff. Have to have real butter, Heinz tomato soup, Heinz ketchup, mayo and salad cream though. Can't have cheap bread either if it's for a sandwich don't mind it for toasting though

TreacleHart · 26/12/2020 09:56

We don't buy shop Olive oil . Get it online.
Ditto chocolates for Christmas . Buy direct from a chocolatier .

borntohula · 26/12/2020 10:06

So much edge.
IveNameChangedAgain2020 · 26/12/2020 10:14

Candles - Diptyque
Ketchup - Heinz (I could probably buy a bigger house if we switched brands!)
Duvet - Goose Feather
Everything else, we're not really bothered!

Username642243 · 26/12/2020 10:17

I used to babysit for reeeeeeaaaaallly posh people and they never had branded food. Was always basics.

Fizbosshoes · 26/12/2020 10:23

Lol the things I felt snobby about are other peoples cheap or substandard varieties!

I shop in Aldi, Tesco, co-op, Sainsbury and Waitrose. I do my main shopping in either of the first 2 and top ups in the last 3 because they are closer to home.
I'd shop in Asda or Lidl if they were conveniently located. I dont even know if it still exists but I used to hate going in kwik save (even the same offends me!) because it was really claustrophobic with stock piled nearly to the ceiling. I always felt you were one trolley nudge of being trapped and injured in an avalanche of sweetcorn, beans and fray bentos pies. Grin

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 26/12/2020 10:24

Good manners and no cursing
Spelling and grammar: it's 'I could have' not 'I could of'
Holidays: exclusive, beautiful resorts and if the sand isn't white enough I don't go
Toilet paper
Bedding: it has to be high-count Egyptian cotton
Lax personal hygiene: a daily shower is a must. Same with a clean home
Cars
Towels: they must be white, thick and soft
Uncluttered homes and kitchens: can't stand crammed worktops
Out of control, loud children

Fizbosshoes · 26/12/2020 10:26

Lax personal hygiene: a daily shower is a must

Can you instantly tell from people you meet if they had a shower that day?
