And the sausage stuffing is still safely in the fridge as I forgot it so I'm drinking wine and not tidying up Angry
Kids are happy to have had spuds and gravy, DH is happy to have dinner cooked for him, I'm just cross with myself. I'm usually a pretty competent cook.
Rant over Grin
Hope everyone else had a good day. 2020 has been utterly shite HmmGrin

Same here. Everything else was ready. It had to go back in the oven for 30mins. So we had a first round of veg and roasties, second round of chicken and bread sauce. 🤷‍♀️

Goldensunnydays81 · 25/12/2020 19:08

Oh no!.
My cat came home crying and not able to put any weight on her foot so a 2 1/2 hour round trip to the vet and £125 later and still no idea what happened to her but she has stopped crying!

Least you made it work Grin

My roasts were late - everything else was great. It's a hard meal to co-coordinate and you never get everything spot-on tbh.

TLKlover · 25/12/2020 19:12

Our Turkey had to go back in too, must be the day for it lol

isseys4xmastinselcats · 25/12/2020 19:13

my guests were late luckily i know my kids aso allowed for it my roasties were a bit on the pale side but every thing else came out perfect so wasnt a big deal and i can finish off to perfect brown the leftover ones tomorrow

DearTeddyRobinson · 25/12/2020 19:19

Glad I wasn't alone and I know it's not the end of the world but still!! Glad you all made it work anyway. Wine and baileys are helping Grin

I put everything in on time but forgot to shut the oven door. Then the cat ate the crumble.

Anycrispsleft · 25/12/2020 19:24

I did the perfect roast about 3 weeks ago. Something always ends up raw or burnt on the actual day. It's having to do 2 hours of speed lego with the kids beforehand that usually stuffs it up for me!

MaryLeeOnHigh · 25/12/2020 19:26

Isn't this what the microwave was invented for?

topcat2014 · 25/12/2020 19:26

Just realised my pigs on blankets are still in the freezer. We ate 6 hours ago :)

Hairwizard · 25/12/2020 19:29

Fuck im thanking fuck i checked my turkey when i did cos was well ready🤣🤣
Dp got us an organic free range one this year and i wasnt sure if took less or more time to cook. 18lber so checked it at 4 hrs and was like shit its done!!

Hopeisnotastrategy · 25/12/2020 19:38

This thread basically sums up the spirit of 2020. Go with the flow! 🤣🤣🤣

Merry Christmas everybody. 🎄🎄🎄

Surely you’re not thinking about microwaving turkey?
Champagneforeveryone · 25/12/2020 19:41

We bought a ruinously expensive naice turkey half crown (it was nearly £50 )

As we were finishing dinner we found DDog3 eating the remains from off of the worktop. Knowing them as I do, I'm certain DDog2 was the thief - DDog3 is not tall enough to reach but is also a thug who would happily have relieved DDog2 of his treasures Hmm

Neenan · 25/12/2020 19:43

I made 36 pigs in blankets by hand, Cooke drown and forgot them. No one mentioned they were missing until we’d finished eating.

So we had them as a second course.

Biglumpycustard · 25/12/2020 19:43

My Turkey had to go back in for another 30 mins too and I burnt the Yorkshire puddings.

ancientgran · 25/12/2020 19:45

Mine was a bit overdone, at least you can finish cooking yours. Mine's going in a curry tomorrow.

marthastew · 25/12/2020 19:45

I messed up the gravy. Not sure what went wrong but I don't even care. It was mostly fine and that's ok.

My kids missed their cousins and their grandparents but we zoomed.

Mostly fine is fine.

ancientgran · 25/12/2020 19:46

Roasties were perfect though and that's what matters.

Ohdoleavemealone · 25/12/2020 19:49

We just didn't have turkey.
Was meant to have the inlaws round and ordered 3 small joints.
Had to cancel inlaws so gave them the turkey.

Beef was bloody beautiful!

DayBath · 25/12/2020 19:51

Cooked it all by 10am and microwaved it when we were ready to sit down. Mumsnet will clutch their handbags in shock but I want my kids to have good memories of me playing with them and interacting with the family, not locked in the kitchen being a sweaty angry mess!! Nobody in our house minds, the roasties were still crispy after microwaving so it all worked out fine.

If I had posh guests I would carve at the table and try and time it all perfectly but for me, DH and the kids it made the whole day so much more relaxed to have it ready done.

DayBath · 25/12/2020 19:53

Just to clarify, I'm not at all saying that doing an elaborate dinner makes people bad mums!!! It just makes me one, because I stress too much about timings and having everything perfect. I've now found my zen Christmas cooking method! Grin

Helgathehairy · 25/12/2020 19:56

DH cooked dinner for the first time (we usually go to parents but stayed home this year). It was perfect except he found the stuffing in the oven when we were tidying up!

Inclinedtochatter · 25/12/2020 19:59

My mum set fire to the gravy and my sisters dog pissed all over the carpet when we pulled the crackers!
