And the sausage stuffing is still safely in the fridge as I forgot it so I'm drinking wine and not tidying up Angry
Kids are happy to have had spuds and gravy, DH is happy to have dinner cooked for him, I'm just cross with myself. I'm usually a pretty competent cook.
Rant over Grin
Hope everyone else had a good day. 2020 has been utterly shite HmmGrin

@Ibuiltthiscityonrocknroll

I spent ages making my own gravy for the first time ever and, in a moment of rushed stupidity when serving it, forgot to put the bowl under it as I strained it and it all went down the plug hole 😩 totally gutted as I was so proud of it, spent ages getting it right. Fortunately I had Bisto in the cupboard to whip out but the thought of that gravy running down the sink is still breaking my heart a little!
Oh no! But I suspect every human in history who makes their own gravy has done this at least once.

No disasters with main meal here, but my lovingly ingredient-sourced, alcohol-soaked, stirred, nurtured and stored-for-months Christmas cake turned out a little dry - so I'm still feeding it rum, today, before cutting another slice.

My dinner today was a million times better.
Roasties even had a colour

Mum always got in a tizz making the dinner. After that, my competent brother took over. She would still try to help and still get in a tizzy. I kept out the way as it was safest! My Aunt who is no Nigella would also come out to hinder!

I would get fraught because I was veggie and had to have something different and knew it wasn't safe to do anything until Mum was sitting down and I had to microwave whatever I was having!

One time Mum was ranting and raving and demanding "Where's Dad?".

I called back "Hiding!". How he could have helped in an overcrowded kitchen I don't know unless his job was to bundle my Aunt out the way!! His normal jobs were opening jars and mashing potatoes.

Now I live alone, can cook what I want. I would have liked roast potatoes but decided to make my life more simple by just having a nut roast and veg. As I was eating it, I realised there was stuffing in it, which is just as well as I forgot the stuffing !

I've never had enough guests to cook a whole turkey, just do a small gammon and/or a turkey crown. Thank god! I would be so stressed!

All my Christmas Dinner is still in the fridge, managed to fall very heavily on Wednesday, breaking some ribs. So doped up on painkillers didn't want to eat anything at all.
Managed a bit of smoked salmon and two pain de chocolate today. In a load of pain and the painkillers aren't touching it.

PoulePouletteEternellement · 27/12/2020 12:59

That sounds grim, allthelittleangels, what bad luck!

Hope there's someone around to look after you and deal with preserving the food.

allthelittleangelsriseupriseup · 27/12/2020 17:09

Thanks, poulepoulette
Thankfully most things have gone in the freezer (or they've got good long dates on), feel a bit less grim today, the pain is a bit more manageable - so I'm cooking the ham joint in the oven for tea tonight - I might just fancy some!

Ours was ready an hour early!! It had a long rest while everything else caught up but was lovely
