And the sausage stuffing is still safely in the fridge as I forgot it so I'm drinking wine and not tidying up Angry
Kids are happy to have had spuds and gravy, DH is happy to have dinner cooked for him, I'm just cross with myself. I'm usually a pretty competent cook.
Rant over Grin
Hope everyone else had a good day. 2020 has been utterly shite HmmGrin

Well I hope you enjoyed the day with your littlies, @DayBath, I was feeling all nostalgic this evening as I sat with DH having cheese and biscuits - the kids left the table as soon as they'd had their last mouthful to go on their computers to do stuff with friends. Understandable at their age but I have fond memories of them getting excited at setting up Thomas train sets and watching Shrek etc. It was just me and DH joking about how low key and different the day was this year.

Champagneforeveryone · 25/12/2020 21:38

@Rebelwithverysharpclaws

Cunting turkeys - it was ever thus.
This should really be the quote of Christmas Grin
Parkandride · 25/12/2020 21:43

You want to rest your turkey for about an hour, gives loads of time for everything else and if its not cooked you have back up time.

I defrosted leftover chilli instead of my red cabbage though

Galvantula · 25/12/2020 21:45

Our pigs in blankets are still in the fridge Blush

DH got distracted and they got forgotten.

Oh well...lunch tomorrow.

elscar · 25/12/2020 21:49

I was making the soup starter, made a lentil soup with a ham hough and left overnight for flavours to develop....went to heat again today and it was stinking!!! The ham was off 😭

Apparently it was meant to be vacuum packed but it wasn't like that when I opened it....bloody Tesco!!

So it had to be chucked

Luckily had smoked salmon and prawns as a 2nd starter- phew!

plominoagain · 25/12/2020 21:55

Discovered the Yorkshire puddings still in the oven at 6pm - we ate at 2.30 . Like blackened lumps of charcoal welded to the tin . I’ve thrown the whole debacle out . As it happened , the person who requested it is feeling lousy , and didn’t notice anyway !

Namechangeme87 · 25/12/2020 21:55

Some of these are hilarious 😂 it’s the way people tell them . no fail for me this year as was working and took ( packet but naice) turkey with stuffing etc that I made into Sandwiches with crisps 😋 I did however drop my dessert all over the floor that I had saved for tonight - still ate it

pappajonessecretchild · 25/12/2020 21:59

literally as i turned the oven off, the electric went. I thought the kids had plugged a dodgy new toy in and it had tripped the electric, nope. the whole area of town was down. this was at 2.45, and we were able to eat. However, electric didnt come back till 7.30. My friends had a kebab for christmas dinner! i was just gratefull to finally have a use for the years of candle presents you get.

BorderlineHappy · 25/12/2020 22:12

My roasters where shit as well.
They where cooked but they looked anemic 😂.

Turkey and ham from m&S was gorgeous.Well worth the extra.

MintyCedric · 25/12/2020 22:21

Ours was fine...when we got it. Took the meat round to defrost in mums fridge on Weds eve...got there at 11 intending to get started at 12 and it was still partially frozen.

Ended up having dinner at about 6pm.

Maryann1975 · 25/12/2020 22:27

I have no idea how I managed it, but today’s dinner all came together perfectly. I was even ready to serve a few minutes before I’d said to everyone to be ready so had to hold it all in the oven while everyone sat down. No idea how that happened with a dinner for 10. I can’t get a Basic Sunday dinner for 5 on the table at the right time however many times I try!

joystir59 · 25/12/2020 22:31

Our Yorkshire's didn't rise
Aunt Bessie's rose fine in our house Grin

Peridot1 · 25/12/2020 22:42

DH is the chef here and managed to burn his hand by picking up a saucepan whose handle had been over the frying pan of sprouts. Ten minutes under cold running water and it still blistered.

I tried to rescue dinner but it all ended up a bit over done. And my stuffing was crap. Usual recipe but crap this year.

Ended up having to cut DH’s food for him so he could eat. Although thankfully it turns our he can still drink with his other hand.

LoseLooseLucy · 25/12/2020 22:46

I was so proud of my turkey last year, it was on the dry side though today 😑 All the bacon unravelled off the sausages and my roast potatoes tasted good but looked so pale. Totally forgot to make Yorkshire puddings and had to microwave the pudding because I forgot to steam it.

justgeton · 25/12/2020 22:46

M&S roast potatoes were very disappointing.. Aunt Bessie has not been usurped.

FrankiesKnuckle · 25/12/2020 22:56

Another for forgotten pigs in blankets, and they're my favourite - I knew something was missing!
Still, will make for lovely sausage sarnies tomorrow morning, if ive not spontaneously combusted by then.... wonders where the dulcolax is... 🤫

DayBath · 25/12/2020 23:07

Thanks @CurlyhairedAssassin , we had a lovely time. I know the kids won't always be excited so I'm enjoying it while they are! I hope you and your husband got to relax and enjoy yourselves while the kids were in their rooms. It's funny how we always want the opposite to what we have, me and hubby can't wait to pack the kids off to the grandparents after covid, time on our own is so rare!

ThePug · 25/12/2020 23:07

DH almost forgot the pigs in blankets AND the stuffing. I realised this evening we did forget the sprouts. His roast potatoes are usually amazing but my dad had banged on about using polenta on them so he did that (my parents couldn't come as they're Tier 4 but we'd bought polenta especially)... it was like eating potatoes covered in sand Angry We only had a small chicken (standard range substitute from Sainsbury's TTD one is ordered at the last minute ) as my parents had been due to bring the turkey Xmas Sad

SEE123 · 25/12/2020 23:20

@Inclinedtochatter

My mum set fire to the gravy and my sisters dog pissed all over the carpet when we pulled the crackers!
😂😂😂 Don't know if it's the wine, but this gave me a proper chuckle
Bridget1979 · 25/12/2020 23:46

Cooked my Turkey; tier 3 so could have people round but a colleague tested positive this morning so ended up plating a take away from my parents. All splendid but when I was clearing up and slicing up remains of Turkey crown I realised it was a bit pink in the middle so I’m now convinced I’ve poisoned everyone. It was cooked for long enough and the juice was clear but i feel awful now. I’m convinced we will all wake up shitting through a needle. The only positive is I’ll lose the 8 stone I’ve put on today.

safariboot · 25/12/2020 23:52

Slow cooked beef was arguably overcooked and I completely forgot the peas. But overall worked out alright. But I only had to cook for two.

clary · 26/12/2020 00:05

Mine was all cooked ok but I did far too much (as usual tbh) and as we were serving, dd brightly asks "where are the Yorkshires?" oops completely forgot to make any!

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 26/12/2020 00:08

I looked at the state of my oven on Monday and ordered an Xmas takeawayXmas Blush

Snacked on too many pringles and chocs, so only managed the starter!

Planning films and cheese board on Boxing Day, ordered 2, they’re rather large! MIL also got us two massive hunks of Tintern and Black Bomber cheese so it’s a cheese coma tomorrow... god knows when we’ll get round to eating the main course 😂

CommanderBurnham · 26/12/2020 09:17

We didn't get round to doing a cheeseboard unfortunately x

SpineyCrevice · 26/12/2020 10:22

I cooked everything on Christmas Eve apart from the veggies and this will be the way I do it from now on.

Everything tasted amazing as I didn't have the smell up my nose.
