What TV shows have you absolutely loved that have been cancelled after one season. Loads for me but 3 that stand out are

Ringer
Flashforward
Away (just heard this has been cancelled which has prompted this thread)

@Inmyownlittlecorner

Terra Nova was fab! I love Tru Calling which finished abruptly in the middle of the second season I think. A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square was a BBC series about Victorian Nannies & I loved it. Even bought the VHS. It was totally set up for a second season too!
I was really disappointed about Berkeley Square too.
Bargebill19 · 22/12/2020 02:16

Psychos on channel 4.

Giggorata · 22/12/2020 02:33

Another vote for Firefly here. I was delighted when the pressure from the fans resulted in the film Serenity, more or less wrapping it up properly. Not what we would have wished, but better than nothing.

I thought I was the only one who missed the Lost Room! I thought it was original and pleasingly weird, so, of course, it got cancelled. A comic book continuation was promised, but didn't happen. Apparently, the more recent Locke and Key is based on similar ideas, but I haven't seen it yet...

I know it was two series, not one, but the early cancellation of Carnivale was so disappointing.

@MojoJojo71

There was also a series were there was a group of people who thought they had been in on a spaceship for 30 years but it was in a bunker underground. Didn't even end properly.

It was called Ascension, I was gutted when they cancelled it

Me too. It was brilliant!

Was also very pissed off when Wayward Pines season 3 was shelved.

Graphista · 22/12/2020 03:41

I seem to bloody curse shows! Almost every show I absolutely love gets cancelled early on

Firefly
Flashforward
Studio 60 on the sunset strip
The class
The nine

Lie To Me was a great series that got cancelled too soon, not sure if anyone remembers it, it starred Tim Roth

Totally agree I NEED to see the romance between cal and Gillian develop/occur! What was really annoying was the people with the rights were approached by several others who wanted to keep making it and they wouldn't let them! Why the fuck not?!

but the BBC kept moving it around the schedule and there was no pattern to when it would be on really pisses me off when they pull this crap. They treat the wonderful if cheesy eat well for less like this and it's SO annoying!

But also (from 20+ years ago) The House of Eliot - I was gutted that it just "stopped".

It was a disgrace how that show was treated! So weird seeing "Evie" on csi looking unrecognisable!

American Gothic - 90s programme with Gary Cole and Sarah Paulson, SO good!

I have NEVER come across anyone else who's even heard of this let alone seem and also loved it!

Anyone for Millenium? 3 seasons but cut off in its prime

Mindhunters been cancelled?! Wtf! I thought they were just being really slow making next one as there was AGES between 1 & 2

If anyone can thing of anything like that, that doesn’t take its self to seriously, then please tell me!

Have you watched "white collar" ? Worth a look for the gorgeous Matt Bomer alone!

I keep watching shows on prime & not noticing its only 1 series & cancelled after I've got into it, like.

I've reached a point I don't even try unless there's at least 3 seasons now unless I know already I like it or somebody recommends

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 22/12/2020 07:17

No way, I love Mindhunters, I’m gutted Sad

woodhill · 22/12/2020 11:34

@thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter

The Living and The Dead! BBC ghost/paranormal drama set in Victorian era. There was much demand for a second series, lost hope that the BBC are going to make anymore now Sad

It's on Amazon prime.

Loved this, still hope another series is made

I liked Homefires

Twizbe · 22/12/2020 11:52

Pan Am. just finished watching that one prime. Shame it didn't get a second series.

Another was High Life. A comedy about Air Scotia. So funny

StanfordPines · 22/12/2020 11:54

Sometimes when Prime and the like pick up a cancelled series they recommission it.

It happened, I believe, with The Expanse. Originally on Sci-Fi and then later series made on Prime.

amusedbush · 22/12/2020 11:59

Another vote for Mindhunter. It was great, I can’t believe they cancelled it.

I also really liked Tru Calling. It starred Eliza Dushku (Faith from Buffy) and it was axed midway through season two so it just ended on a cliffhanger.

bruffin · 22/12/2020 12:07

Now and Again

It was a great series that had a huge following and a lot of fan fiction. But they didnt know how to categorize it as it was a mixture of scifi, comedy and a love story

Chuckleknuckles · 22/12/2020 12:13

I came on to say My So Called Life too.

Fun fact: The actress who played Rayanne Graff, she who was always drunk or high, AJ Langer, is now the Countess of Devon. Married a British aristo.

bluebluezoo · 22/12/2020 12:22

Another was High Life. A comedy about Air Scotia. So funny

Dearie Dearie Me!

I have the DVD’s..

bruffin · 22/12/2020 12:23

I loved the HIgh Life!!

TheFormidableMrsC · 22/12/2020 12:29

There was an American series a few years back, I can't for the life of remember the name of it now but it was a game show/big brother type scenario set in Alaska with huge prize money but it all went horribly wrong very quickly and we never did find out what "it" was and it was left on a cliffhanger and then cancelled. I was gutted as I was gripped! Hmm

XmasLama · 22/12/2020 12:44

@BlackCatShadow I had missed that The Society has been cancelled. I really enjoyed it

ParadiseLaundry · 22/12/2020 12:48

Yes! Loved Pan Am!

TerrifiedandWorried · 22/12/2020 13:49

A BBC series called The Savages. Was a family sitcom type thing. Noone has ever heard of it.

InterfectoremVulpes · 22/12/2020 14:47

There was a TV game show a few years back called "The Mole" that I really liked. I think there were rights issues though which meant they couldn't do another series

umberellaonesie · 22/12/2020 14:50

@Anoisagusaris

My So Called Life
I can't believe this was only one season had such an impact on teenage me.
winewolfhowls · 22/12/2020 14:55

@Didiplanthis

Trainer... about 30 years ago !
I can remember my mum being obsessed with this, and being sent to bed as it was too grown up for me
Samcro · 22/12/2020 14:56

Cuffs. was so annoyed the bbc cancelled it

winewolfhowls · 22/12/2020 14:58

I thought they had filmed another series of taboo ages ago? Did i dream it? Had to watch it with the lights off because every scene was gloomy.

SmallChrismas · 22/12/2020 15:10

Not one but two seasons, The OA. Why oh why , it was so good?

evilkitten · 22/12/2020 15:12

Ambassadors - think someone's said it already, and Sleepers, a sitcom from late 80s/early 90s?
