Feeling a bit nostalgic today I will start- every good shopping trip would involve a visit to Bay Trading and Snob

I remember Next to Nothing in Birmingham, just round the corner from Adams in fact.

Madhairday · 29/11/2020 23:14

Some that I remember:

Fenwick's
Safeway
Virgin Megastore in Birmingham city centre - many happy hours!
BeWise
Clockhouse
Chelsea Girl/Tammy Girl
Mark One
Paper Tiger
Bow Bangles
Savacentre
Athena
Beatties
Woolco (I'm sure this was an amalgamation of Woolworths and Wilkinsons, I am definitely remembering correctly!!)

gildalilly · 29/11/2020 23:15

Covent Garden General Store and the place just down from there towards Leicester Square which did loads of army surplus but was somehow trendy. I want to say Laurence Korner but I'm not sure that was there, that might have been in Kensington.

MrsShelton · 29/11/2020 23:15

and peter dominic off licence too!

rustykettle · 29/11/2020 23:17

K Shoes - I had a Saturday job there.

wowfudge · 29/11/2020 23:22

C & A only closed in the UK. Check out this Christmas party frock I saw in Spain last year.

Oh so many of these stores are evoking string teenage memories Smile

Anyone from Newcastle remember Sgt Peppers? Their tops were the epitome of chav trendy! I could never afford to shop there but bought a too in the sale and kept the too and bag for ever until they were both ragged 😂

VivaDixie · 29/11/2020 23:24

Strong not string!!

VivaDixie · 29/11/2020 23:24

Top not too FFS Hmm

wetasstenalady · 29/11/2020 23:24

Gamleys - toys
Hammells - clothes
Fine Fare and Gateway supermarkets
Saxone - shoes
Cable and Co - also shoes
John Collier - men’s clothing
Foster menswear
Share drugstore
Dixons and Comet - electricals
British Gas showroom - not technically a shop but didn’t every town Centre have one?

DianaT1969 · 29/11/2020 23:36

Knickerbox
Does anyone in London remember going to Fonthill Road on a Saturday?
Camden Market for button down tops from the army surplus stores.

Bloodylovecheese · 29/11/2020 23:37

Anyone remember Mexx?

wetasstenalady · 29/11/2020 23:39

@PajamasnoDramas forgot all about Saxone! There are hardly any shoe shop chains now
And the British Gas showroom I loved looking at the fires with the horrendous multi coloured plastic coals on whilst my dad paid the gas bill

Reject Shop in Covent Garden...loved it in there

tectonicplates · 29/11/2020 23:44

Cromwell's Bazaar/Cromwell's Madhouse for jeans.

Alrightnow · 29/11/2020 23:49

Mr Byrite

tectonicplates · 29/11/2020 23:49

The Gadget Shop, for cool stuff you really wanted but clearly didn't need.

Letseatgrandma · 29/11/2020 23:50

Do those people who remembered Pollards also remember Bejam and Mr Byrite!

HomerRoberts · 29/11/2020 23:55

Petroleum anyone? Might be another northern one

Alrightnow · 29/11/2020 23:56

Dash

lovelilies · 29/11/2020 23:57

I thought Adams (in 2005/6) was really poor quality and expensive! Next was much better at that time.
In the 90s, all the above mentioned plus one that was like sweater shop but had a different name?
Miss Selfridges
Benetton
Naf Naf

lovelilies · 29/11/2020 23:58

That's the one! Loved my petroleum jeans and a pale blue sweatshirt from there
MrsShelton · 29/11/2020 23:58

Our midland supermarket was Hillards but this might have been more the 70’s
