Feeling a bit nostalgic today I will start- every good shopping trip would involve a visit to Bay Trading and Snob

Time40 · 29/11/2020 20:24

Dolcis! Oh my god, I miss Dolcis.

And Freeman, Hardy Willis

tectonicplates · 29/11/2020 20:24

@purpledagger I'd forgotten about Naf Naf until just now.

Also who could forget C&A!

BasinHaircut · 29/11/2020 20:26

Do you remember those trousers they sold in Bay Trading? Flared, hipster type things with 4 big silver buttons down the front and a fake pocket on either side with another big silver button. Loads of different colours. They sold them for about 20 years.

NameChChChChChanges · 29/11/2020 20:26

Does anyone remember the State of Independence?

tectonicplates · 29/11/2020 20:27

Oooh, and Ton Sur Ton. What was all that about? It doesn't even make sense.

Time40 · 29/11/2020 20:27

Sailsbury's for bags

... gosh, haven't a lot of chains closed down in the last 20-30 years?

BasinHaircut · 29/11/2020 20:29

@MarchionessofActon our local market had a stall that literally only sold ‘posh’ carrier bags. Seems mental now.

Whatwouldscullydo · 29/11/2020 20:30

Oooh just remembered. Paris. The shoe shop.

And I miss the body shop as it was.

tectonicplates · 29/11/2020 20:32

@BasinHaircut OMG, look at all these "vintage" plastic bags! www.ebay.co.uk/b/Vintage-Plastic-Bag-in-Other-Advertising-Collectables/35/bn_7022875070

BasinHaircut · 29/11/2020 20:33

Do you know what, if it was possible to go back 20-25 years and have a wander round all these shops it would be the best thing ever. Especially at this time of year, in the body shop looking at the dewberry gift sets. Lush mate.

DialSquare · 29/11/2020 20:34

Pied A Terre shoe shops. They used to have a Karen Millen concession in them before she opened her own shops,

MarchionessofActon · 29/11/2020 20:38

Baisin really?! That’s crazy to imagine now Grin

tectonicplates · 29/11/2020 20:39

Loads of Bay Trading clothes on Ebay! How cool! www.ebay.co.uk/b/Vintage-Plastic-Bag-in-Other-Advertising-Collectables/35/bn_7022875070

tectonicplates · 29/11/2020 20:39

Have to agree, Body Shop dewberry products were basically the smell of the 90s.

BasinHaircut · 29/11/2020 20:40

@tectonicplates ha ha brilliant.

I can imagine useful for props departments for tv/film production but who else would buy this stuff? I don’t suppose today’s 15 year olds are on the look out for vintage Woolworths bags for thier PE kits Grin

tectonicplates · 29/11/2020 20:44

I honestly don't know. I thought of TV and film production too, but apart from that who the heck would buy this stuff?

SlopesOff · 29/11/2020 20:54

I have loads of old bags. I used to keep them for bin liners but obviously shopped more than I threw stuff away.

ladykuga · 29/11/2020 20:55

Barratts Shoes. Their Comme il Fait range fitted my feet perfectly.

tectonicplates · 29/11/2020 20:55

You should probably put them on Ebay. You'd make a fortune Grin

BasinHaircut · 29/11/2020 21:04

Saying that, a few years ago DH’s granny sent us round a bread pudding that she’d made wrapped in a carrier bag.

Said carrier bag was from a local shop (don’t think it was a chain, but anyone who happens to be from Dagenham would remember Pollards) which closed down decades before. I did from a bit of an emotional attachment to that bag for a while I will admit. Grin

ApplesandAardvarks · 29/11/2020 21:14

Does anyone remember the State of Independence?

I do! That was my favourite shop as a young teen. I was constantly in there buying terrible jewellery. Loved it.
