Feeling a bit nostalgic today I will start- every good shopping trip would involve a visit to Bay Trading and Snob

OP posts:

@Nomoreboobs

I have a C&A 10 minutes drive from where I live, it’s still the same 😂

Dolcis-best shoes!
Tammy girl
Top shop
Body shop (White musk and pinching lip liners 😬)
Bay trading-turquoise of ‘Those’ trousers with a turquoise cropped tie too.
River island-was never keen though
Etam
Ns2
Stolen from Ivor (could be purely a Northern thing)
Woolworths

I'm in the north and remember Stolen from Ivor, and another shop called Maelstrom.
VicMackey · 29/11/2020 22:31

The Pier - decorative / Furnishing items not clothing....

Woahisme · 29/11/2020 22:33

Does anyone remember John Menzies shops?

Oh and Stationary Box? I spent my pocket money on pens and pencils and still have time all in their packets sad

JauntyMcGinty · 29/11/2020 22:33

If anyone is from Edinburgh then Flip. Oh for another root around there

justleavemebe · 29/11/2020 22:34

justleavemebe · 29/11/2020 22:36

Also Adams for children's clothes.
I miss going shopping, the towns are half empty.

stayanotherday · 29/11/2020 22:36

Littlewoods.

Letseatgrandma · 29/11/2020 22:38

I remember Pollards!

Sock shop
Body shop and filling those little wicker baskets with bath pearls that made your bath water go all slimy!
Standing in Radio Rentals whilst my parents debated between renting a VHS or Betamax machine.
Looking at posters in our Price and Athena
Going to Argos with the catalogue number of a toy I really wanted, but getting to the first bit and finding out every week for weeks that it wasn’t in stock! Being able to reserve stuff now is so much better!
Looking both ways before you went into Primark to make sure nobody from school saw you going in!

apricotdreams · 29/11/2020 22:38

@BasinHaircut @SkepticalCat I remember pollards so clearly! Used to be taken there by mum for vests, nighties plimsoles etc in the 70s. I remember there were rows of little wooded drawers that everything would be neatly folded in behind the counter. My mum said it was really popular because it was quite cheap. There was one in Dagenham and Upminster. Happy days Smile

@Letseatgrandma

"Looking both ways before you went into Primark to make sure nobody from school saw you going in!"

Yes, this was my childhood. It was so embarrassing to be seen in Primark, I refused and would only meet my mum outside Debenhams opposite. That's back in the day when it was pronounced Pry-Mark!

The other shop I loved was Rapsody, but that might have been a local thing. It was black with lots of neon green!

Nomoreboobs · 29/11/2020 22:42

Food shopping at Lo-Cost and trying to get someone to buy you cider from Victoria wine (Vicky wine 😂)
There was a newsagent/sweet shop but can’t remember the name

Craftycorvid · 29/11/2020 22:49

French Connection used to have an outlet shop called ‘Disconnected’ (geddit). Also, there was a shop that I think must have been peculiar to my home town called Goldee - ‘twas a veritable bag of class Grin

Woahisme · 29/11/2020 22:51

In terms of supermarkets, Kwik Save, Somerfield and Netto. You got the rip took out of you if you were spotted with a Netto bag.

MrsDoctorDear · 29/11/2020 22:52

Next To Nothing - Next outlet store, don't think it lasted long.

ladykuga · 29/11/2020 22:57

Always loved Fads DIY stores.

Letseatgrandma · 29/11/2020 23:00

The best (affordable to us!) Cartier bags to have for your school folder were the cotton body shop ones or the drawstring gap ones.

Newuser991 · 29/11/2020 23:04

Miss Selfridge

megletthesecond · 29/11/2020 23:05

MrsShelton · 29/11/2020 23:07

does anyone remember 'Adams' for kids clothes? we were just talking about missing that store a few days ago

rustykettle · 29/11/2020 23:12

Yes! Adams was great.

haircutsRus · 29/11/2020 23:13

Athena - I mean, who doesn't need a poster of a steam train that's driven off the end of a bridge, or a tennis player with her skirt caught in her knickers?

Ratners - crap jewellery at its finest.

Littlewoods - cheaper cardigans than M&S.
