Life Changing Cleaning - Why Didn't I Know?

I can't believe I didn't know about rubber brooms before now! No word of a lie, it has changed my life - picks up dog fur from the stairs better than any hoover. My carpet is like new. This, after spending £s on Dyson. Anyone else got any brilliant cleaning tips?

@Cooltalkin

What is this. ‘Pink stuff’ of which you speak ?

Intrigued

It's a brand name, of cream cleaner amongst other things. Some people love it but I'm a bit Meh about it
crimsonlake · 21/11/2020 10:38

After never resolving build up on my shower screen I randomly sprayed it with the Pink Stuff, the multi use one. It worked like a miracle.

formerbabe · 21/11/2020 10:40

Love the pink stuff paste

I also bought a hob/glass scraper tool thing. It's brilliant, my oven door was caked in grease and oven cleaner wasn't shifting it...scraped the lot off with my scraper thing. Also did the same to my oven dishes

Any tips for getting rid of black mould on the windows? Including on the sealant?

timeforanewstart · 21/11/2020 10:41

To the poster who asked about something to put large floor wet wipes on , i had a swiffer and attach it to that , mine has just broke though so thrown away , was just head part so seeing if i can just buy that bit

RumJerrySailorRum · 21/11/2020 10:42

Scrunched up newspaper gets rid of smears and streaks on glass and mirrors.

RumJerrySailorRum · 21/11/2020 10:43

Oh, stardrops with Ammonia is the best cleaning fluid for absolutely everything!

Benjispruce2 · 21/11/2020 10:48

@StinkySaurus a toothbrush and a warm water with bleach solution.

Gwenhwyfar · 21/11/2020 10:49

"Avoid vinegar
Stinks and takes ages to flush out"

I disagree. Use white vinegar. I'm not very good at cleaning, but I'm actually laughing at the thought of using malt vinegar. You might have to throw away one or two boiled kettlefulls (can keep the water for some other use I suppose), but the smell won't linger too long.

Blossomgate · 21/11/2020 10:51

This is my very Best Buy glass cleaner for windows, shower screens, glass hob and mirrors. It is also amazing on the chrome taps and bathroom fitments.

hg.eu/uk/products/hg-window-cleaner - sold in lots of places.

I use a swiffer with a micro cloth on it for hair on wooden and ceramic floors. Pull the cloth off, shake out and wash occasionally.

StinkySaurus · 21/11/2020 10:51

@Benjispruce2 thanks! Do you have to be careful of it damaging the sealant?

CCSS15 · 21/11/2020 10:52

We have super bad limescale here and never been able to get the shower screens clean until now........use some kind of limescale remover to weaken the limescale and rinse off then use a glass razor / scraper
Also, some ends of taps unscrew (I only realised this recently) so you can soak i water and citric acid to remove limescale

Benjispruce2 · 21/11/2020 10:52

@TikTakTikTak you don’t need disinfectant as it removes 99% bacteria. I think in the e cloth literature it says products will cause the microfibres to work less efficiently. It’s hard to get your head round it but you really just need water.

Nothowiexpected · 21/11/2020 10:52

I

iseeu · 21/11/2020 10:52

This is the most amazing thread I have ever read. I am posting to placemark so that I can come back and order all these things, thank you OP.

Benjispruce2 · 21/11/2020 10:53

@StinkySaurus wipe over with water to remove bleach afterwards . I haven’t noticed any deterioration and been doing it for years.

Blossomgate · 21/11/2020 10:53

For those asking about leather, I always use saddle soap - used not surprisingly to clean leather saddles😉

TheLuckiest · 21/11/2020 10:54

Yep, Pink Stuff all the way. Amazing. Cleans sinks, loos, windows, shower screen.

Tis witchcraft.

Also, having a DH on furlough who is really, really bored has done wonders for keeping the house clean.

Anyone know how to get tea stains off a white laminate kitchen door?? Even Pink Stuff didn't work on that sadly..

MrsGrindah · 21/11/2020 10:54

Just ordered my first Pink Stuff! Weirdly excited.

wizzbangfizz · 21/11/2020 10:54

Shameless place mark

Ginfordinner · 21/11/2020 10:55

Any recommendations for what to clean cast iron hob topper thingys? They're huge as well so I struggle to fit them in the sink to scrub!

I put mine in the dishwasher @drumst1ck

I have looked on the website to buy the Deep Clean Mop. It isn't clear whether it comes with the mop head, or if I have to order separately?

It comes with the mop head @endofthelinefinally

Lsquiggles · 21/11/2020 10:56

Is there such thing as a bath mat that doesn't go mouldy??

Cooltalkin · 21/11/2020 10:58

@AvocadosBeforeMortgages
Thank you , I remember my mum having a tin of ‘ pink stuff ‘ cream that was a bit grainy , but it wasn’t called pink stuff then

Very clever to call it pink stuff lol

Will give it a whirl !

Mrsjayy · 21/11/2020 10:58

I have small one for the stairs when we had the dog used to brush up the hair before I hoovered.

TikTakTikTak · 21/11/2020 11:03

@Benjispruce2 thanks, my toddler will be potty training soon and I love a bit of bleach but I support I ought to stop anyway.

Re the kettle, definitely white vinegar only. Once it's cooled in the kettle I pour it into the washing machine for a nice hot cycle. Double duty.
