Life Changing Cleaning - Why Didn't I Know?

I can't believe I didn't know about rubber brooms before now! No word of a lie, it has changed my life - picks up dog fur from the stairs better than any hoover. My carpet is like new. This, after spending £s on Dyson. Anyone else got any brilliant cleaning tips?

Cup of water microwave till boiling leave for ten min, steam will lift off almost everything in there. Slice of lemon in the water will take away any odours. Once you've had dinner, wash pans then put back on oven top slightly wet. Finish your cleaning up. Dry pans put away. all the drips off pans have now lifted spills off hob, wipe and relax no scrubbing needed.
@Darls3000 last one I sound poo obsessed! You might want to be very firm with whoever you live with that this is the deal now or the dog will be a bit confused and it will take longer xx
Thanks so much. I'm definitely motivated to try and again and this post is going to have my house sparkling

That's what I thought.www.actioncleanup.com/blog-4/3-products-to-never-use-on-granite-and-what-you-should-use-instead

@Savoretti

Just read the thread while rubbing a dishwasher tablet over my burned ceramic hob
Did it work. It’s brilliant. Cleaned my oven like that too.

Any ideas for cleaning ‘silver’ serving dishes for Christmas ..the only time they are used...look quite tarnished the rest of the year

Benjispruce2 · 23/11/2020 17:01

Silver polish @Br1256

Notusuallydown · 23/11/2020 17:09

Greenmandm Wow! that's serious!

Silver polishing cloth. Boyes sell them cheap. Great for cleaning silver jewellery too

I think its bleach and chlorine that is dangerous together makes a gas, if I'm remembering rightly. May need to google

Possiblynotever · 23/11/2020 17:59

My mother has always used toothpaste or Jif on silver....works really well, but use an old dry toothbrush

kyssedbyfyre · 23/11/2020 18:03

Yes, toothpaste or ketchup on silverware. Works a treat!

bigchanges1 · 23/11/2020 18:14

Does anyone have any tips for cleaning a dark grey composite sink please? I’ve tried bicarbonate with vinegar & then Cif, but it’s just not coming up clean Confused

MiniMum97 · 23/11/2020 18:22

@eggcustard1

Does anyone have a cleaning tip for an enamel bath which is slightly worn so starting to stain? I have tried, pink stuff, bicarb etc and don't want to use anything which will damage the surface any further.

I keep getting yellow marks on the side of it too underneath the shampoo bottles etc which won't come off! Need help!!

I use bio d washing powder as a scrub. Cleans it up and whitens nicely. Doesn't seem to damage the surface.
SOboredofcleaning · 23/11/2020 18:22

Oh noooo @BluTangClan (ha! 💛 your name) I have totally used vinegar & bleach on my granite 😬😬😬
What shall I do?!?

Mikki69 · 23/11/2020 18:27

I must be getting old! This thread is up there with " when it's sunny and Breezey Iam so happy to hang the washing out!"
Or I'm like a kid at Christmas when Zoflora add a new scent to their collection or when you can get 'matching' laundry detergent AND fabric softener!!

Ginfordinner · 23/11/2020 18:29

TBH I don't understand the mumsnet love for Zoflora. I don't really like the smell of any of them. I rarely have need to use it either.

Ddot · 23/11/2020 18:30

Making cuppa i decided to rake out window squeegee. I got a handful of cat hair from stairs. 🤫 dirty girl! I also realised my lovely fur baby has been sharpening her claws on my carpet.

SOboredofcleaning · 23/11/2020 18:33

P@picklemewalnuts do you mean liquid hand soap for the spectacles? Do you need to rise it off?

RaeburnPlace · 23/11/2020 18:38

I use saddle soap on my leather sofas, following the instructions, lather it up rub into the sofa and polish off. Removed pen marks, general 'grubbiness' and leaves the leather really soft.

I always use bio washing capsules for burnt pans. Fill with hot water and leave to steep. Amazing.

BluTangClan · 23/11/2020 18:43

@SOboredofcleaning, you might be ok if you haven't done it too often....
"Vinegar is very acidic, and it can easily deteriorate the sealant on granite that protects it from stains and etches. In addition, vinegar can dull the professional finish of the granite. Eventually, it can even cause etching, impacting the structural integrity and beauty of the stone. In addition to not using vinegar on your granite, you should not expose the stone to any other acidic substances because it could eventually lead to the premature need to repair or replace your countertops."

TimTamsAreForEating · 23/11/2020 18:45

Any tips for water lines down the back of a toilet? (It's got a brown looking line where the water runs down the back of the bowl - hope that makes sense!)

I've tried bicarb & vinegar / bleach / pumice stone, coke, magic eraser, washing powder.

Also, marks on the removable bits on the gas hob. The round cover things.

SOboredofcleaning · 23/11/2020 18:47

@BluTangClan we inherited the granite so I stuck a past of bicarb on the water marks near the sink. Haven't done it loads. We have the method granite cleaner now. But have used an antibacterial spray on it too 😬😬😬

CherryRipe1 · 23/11/2020 19:04

@endofthelinefinally

2 questions: I have looked on the website to buy the Deep Clean Mop. It isn't clear whether it comes with the mop head, or if I have to order separately?

Does anybody know how to get mildew type marks off a piece of leather furniture that was left in a damp room?
TIA

Try vaseline, I used to clean some of my equestrian gear with it if it got mildewy. Mildew ,& mould are spores ,& have roots. If it comes back test out a small inconspicuous bit of leather with tea tree oil, wipe on, leave for a while then wipe off with clean kitchen roll then discard this. Treat with vaseline again
