Life Changing Cleaning - Why Didn't I Know?

I can't believe I didn't know about rubber brooms before now! No word of a lie, it has changed my life - picks up dog fur from the stairs better than any hoover. My carpet is like new. This, after spending £s on Dyson. Anyone else got any brilliant cleaning tips?

@Ginfordinner - please tell me more, I did try this before but maybe not in the right way.

Ah no swarfega was a green gel wasn’t it ?[/quote]
swarfega was definitely green
apparently now its orange

Anything to clean flattened pile on carpets on high volume traffic areas - there is an al no OST path like track between the kitchen and front room!

thekoalassocks · 22/11/2020 22:58

I have one that I tried for the first time today. To clean oven racks, wrap in tin foil, place in a bath of hot water and place a dishwasher tablet on top of the foil parcel. Leave for a few hours and all the grime just wipes straight off! My racks are like new. Apparently the dishwasher tablet has some kind of chemical reaction with the aluminium foil.

Did you know you can get your bath recoated. My friend gets a man round to do it.

Ddot · 22/11/2020 23:03

Swarfega has changed because it was carcinogenic

I was waiting for one of these threads to tell you about my rubber bristled brush and pan set. I bought it for the rabbit hutch but now I need another for the house/car/caravan!!! It was a random purchase in Lidl!!

But I resent you all because I dithered over a rubber broom in bm earlier and put it down!!!!!

I'm very excited about getting a rubber broom now.

Ddot · 22/11/2020 23:07

Yes me too, getting me a rubber hair remover broom

unmanagable · 22/11/2020 23:21

I burn some pasta in the bottom of a saucepan ( currently my only one as the others are ready for a house move ) I scrubbed and scrubbed , made it just about usable eventually in spite of still black pasta shaped burnt pattern on the bottom , then I did a recipe using turmeric and black onion seeds and the burnt bit vanished !

Another vote for an eufy robovac. Am a single parent and feel deep deep gratitude towards him. Just brilliant. You do need to prep the room but it only takes a couple of minutes. He does have trouble with my rug but am thinking of cutting the fringe off the rug so he can manage it. Mine is called Beetle. He even cleans under the sofa!

FancyAnOlive · 22/11/2020 23:38

I'll be getting a rubber broom too now though

nevernotstruggling · 22/11/2020 23:43

@Ddot have you not just tested bleach on a tiny bit?

Celestine70 · 23/11/2020 00:12

@sherrystrull those are slug trails

Mamanyt · 23/11/2020 00:19

To make stainless steel sinks shine like new, cut a lemon in half and rub the sinks with that.

@BlueSkies2020 There is no better mop for wooden floors - highly recommended https://www.wood-finishes-direct.com/product/bona-spray-mop?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpcqVw72X7QIV1e3tCh0UAzvEAQYASABEgKA44DBwE

Mr Muscle glass cleaner for smear free glass, mirrors, granite worktops and shiny cupboard fronts. Literally life changing!

caringcarer · 23/11/2020 01:15

@cherrypies use a bit of dry steel wool. It gets everything off then rinse under tap.

caringcarer · 23/11/2020 01:23

Coke is brilliant for cleaning s really dirty toilet. Just pour it down and leave it for an hour. Flush then repeat.

Darls3000 · 23/11/2020 02:04

Any tips on how to get the scent left behind when a dog poops in the garden on artificial grass lawn? We wipe it immediately after scooping the poop and spray it with a mix of white vinegar and Lenor (read that somewhere) but dog still goes back to same spot the next day to do her poops. Any help on what I should spray after I've cleaned the mess?

Caeruleanblue · 23/11/2020 05:05

I think the white vinegar and lenor might be for real lawns where you don't want to kill the grass. I put dettol or possibly a smelly pine disinfectant down.

Greenmandm · 23/11/2020 06:11

When you need to scrub or buff more these things are amazing. I use it for the shower door mostly after spraying with cilit bang limescale remover. I attach them to a cordless electric screwdriver and works like magic.

Benjispruce2 · 23/11/2020 06:40

@Darls3000 you can get an enzyme spray from pet shops or Amazon to remove the odour dogs leave.

Imnotahugger · 23/11/2020 06:54

@whereisthejoy Sticky stuff remover https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B000TAT4GM/ref=psdcmw4052690311t1B00M36W1XS

margaritasbythesea · 23/11/2020 07:07

Darls3000 I second the enzyme spray.

I use an old toothbrush to clean hard-to-reach corners and edging, like the place where the frame of the shower meets the glass. Very easy.

Melm22 · 23/11/2020 07:30

I use ecoegg on my bathroom, environmentally friendly and does a great job. Comes with its own non scratch sponge. Use wet, rinse or buff off with microfibre cloth everything sparkles and smells lovely (citrus). Lasts for ages!!!!
