I love a sherry in the winter, late afternoon, preferably by the fire.

Anyone agree? 😬

@joystir59

I have bought my Christmas bottle. When does Christmas start?
They just played Mariah Carey on the radio so crack on!

Love sherry but NOT in a trifle. Bleah!

@Idroppedthescrewinthetuna

I had a sherry with my breakfast in bed this morning. Its my birthday and a sherry is the best way to start it with Smile
Oo happy birthday 💜

I'll have another just to toast you 😂

I tried it once and thought it was sickly. I always thought of it as an old ladies drink, (memories of great aunts and grandmas sipping it after Christmas dinner) so never touched it for years.

Then dh bought a bottle of dry sherry for cooking, and after searching the house for wine and failing to find any 😩 he suggested I try the sherry, unfortunately for dh if he wants to cook with it, he will now have to buy some more 😁

Ooh Thank you
Cheers, I will drink to that and have another!

In fact, I think everybody on this thread should have a sherry to toast my birthday 😂

@joystir59

Sherry=Christmas
Absolutely this!
maddiemookins16mum · 14/11/2020 17:21

A schooner of sherry at the Berni Inn before a steak reminds me of the 80s. But, I love a sherry by 11am on Christmas morning when I’m peeling carrots. Luckily my MIL is a sherry fan too and brings a crate for Christmas.

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 14/11/2020 17:22

Love it, but definitely prefer the dry stuff -manzanilla and amontillado please!

Cooroo · 14/11/2020 17:24

I just bought a Pedro Ximenez for pre-Christmas nightcaps. I also enjoy dry sherries but rarely drink them unless in Spain.

DoesThisMakeSence · 14/11/2020 17:31

My granny used to get a bottle of sherry each year for christmas and we would have a wee toast on chrastmas day.
I have no idea what it was called but i loved it.
I was a fancy blue bottle with a round cork type stopper for a lid.
It always made me feels so christmassy 😂😂

jambeforeclottedcream · 14/11/2020 17:32

I haven't had a Sherry for ages, but I do quite like it.

Hoppinggreen · 14/11/2020 17:34

I like the dry stuff, really cold. Preferably in Spain

nosswith · 14/11/2020 17:38

I never liked it. My mum hardly drinks and I wonder how old the remaining bottle of sherry in her house is.

minipie · 14/11/2020 17:40

Yes! Palo Cortado from the fridge.

I also like Madeira, not sherry but similar, very warming on a wintry day.

doctorhamster · 14/11/2020 17:44

I am 40 years old and I've never tried Sherry Shock

If want to give it a go, what should I start with?

howdidigettobe50something · 14/11/2020 17:48

Yes definitely! I inherited the habit from my mum. She used to pour one whilst cooking the Sunday roast and would call it a 'cook's perk!'

Kinraddie · 14/11/2020 17:49

Yes, love a sherry with ice

PurBal · 14/11/2020 17:50

Yes please!

Mrsbclinton · 14/11/2020 17:54

Im 42 never had a sherry and now I want one!!!

abstractzebra · 14/11/2020 17:55

Love a sweet sherry or any sort of sweet wine.
Did a tour of Madeira, the Canaries, Portugal and Spain last year and sweet wines were served left, right and centre 😋

Antirrhinum · 14/11/2020 17:56

Thanks to the original 'old lady' thread, I tried a sweet cream sherry from Sainsbury's, just their bog-standard one, in case it was shit Grin and fell in love with it. I'd tried their dry sherry and also Tio Pepe, which sounded so very refined, but I didn't enjoy it all, which is odd, because I hate sweet wine. I now enjoy it in front of the fire on a cold evening while reading a good book.

purpleleotard · 14/11/2020 17:57

A small tumbler any day of the week

Ragwort · 14/11/2020 17:57

Love sherry, bought a bottle of Croft Original today ... about to pour a glass at 6pm Grin.

icedaisy · 14/11/2020 17:57

For the last twenty years I've gone to MIL on Xmas Eve and wrapped her gifts with her. Then we have a sherry and a mince pie by the fire. It's one of those strange yet lovely traditions we both look forward to.

She's a fierce, difficult woman, but in that half hour on Xmas eve we are at peace and I remember why I love her.

HotSince63 · 14/11/2020 17:58

What sort of glasses are you all drinking it from?

And what's the old ladies thread, that sounds like my kind of thread!
