In a letter to fans, Depp said he had been "asked to resign" from his role as Gellert Grindelwald and had "respected that and agreed to that request".

Good.

Would you say the same of this was flipped and Amber H had lost the case?

BananaPop2020 · 06/11/2020 18:39

If, sorry

Noitjustwontdo · 06/11/2020 18:41

Meh. I still say they were both as bad as each other. He’s totally embarrassed himself dragging it through the courts which is ironic considering his reasons for taking it to court in the first place.

How do you mean? She didn't bring the case. He did. And it wasn't against her.

Maybe BananaPop2020's question should be

Do you think that it would be good if Amber Heard was asked to leave Aquaman 2 as she has admitted to beating up her partner?

BananaPop2020 · 06/11/2020 19:15

I was just wondering, in the absence of any criminal conviction, what people thought about this. Neither of them came out of this well.

DownThePlath · 06/11/2020 19:16

Both as bad as each other

MrsWhites · 06/11/2020 19:19

I don’t think either of them came out of this particularly well but I have to say listening to the evidence I don’t think I would have come to the same conclusion as the judge did.

It’s clear they both behaved badly in their marriage and there was evidence of AH committing assault too, will she be ‘asked to step down’ from her tv roles too.

Overall I don’t think the case will do a lot to encourage male domestic violence victims to come forward which is the biggest shame of all.

Stompythedinosaur · 06/11/2020 19:24

I think it is a good call. We have a judge expressing an opinion that he repeatedly assaulted his partner, including putting her in fear of his life. The judge specifically refuted the characterisation he put forward of her as a "gold digger".

I wouldn't be taking my dc to see a film with a known domestic abuser in.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 06/11/2020 19:26

I'm mixed on this. What if he's both a perpetrator and victim of dv in his relationship with AH? He's also not been convicted of a crime - he's only lost a libel case. He's entitled to work. And bloody Eddie Redmayne is still employed on that franchise and he's a slimy toad imo.
OTOH, it's all very unsavoury and studios want the focus to be on the film, not the behaviour of the actors. Although historically film studios have willingly worked with lots of awful people who are far worse than JD. Roman Polanski anyone?
He is Grindelwald though, so I think the film won't be as good without him.

Thewithesarehere · 06/11/2020 19:29

They have kicked him out!!! Yes!
I wish someone takes care of Redmayne too. Can’t stand this smug twat now. Hmm

Thewithesarehere · 06/11/2020 19:30

@DownThePlath

Both as bad as each other
Abuse apologist much?
1990s · 06/11/2020 19:31

Has Eddie Redmayne done anything actually bad or just been a smug twat? Not being goady just genuinely wondering if I missed something he did.

Stompythedinosaur · 06/11/2020 19:33

What if he's both a perpetratorandvictim of dv in his relationship with AH?

They are seperate issues. They don't cancel each other out. Most of the sex offenders I work with professionally were abused themself in the past, it doesn't mean they arent responsible for their crimes.

Imknackeredzzz · 06/11/2020 19:36

What’s Eddie redmayne done?

His campaign in the favour of TWAW is fucking infuriating and it exposed him as an arrogant and ignorant twit who prefers his image to women rights. It was very embarrassing to watch.
SheepandCow · 06/11/2020 19:37

This article in the sun about the proven in a court of law violent domestic abuser, Johnny Depp, makes it all very clear.
www.thesun.co.uk/news/13090441/johnny-depp-libel-case-wife-beater/

It's well worth a read.

Here's just one (of many) incidents of serious violence detailed in the article:

In December 2015, Depp chucked a glass decanter at Amber at their LA home in a drug binge. He also slapped her and dragged her through the apartment by her hair - ripping a chunk out. He then hit her again in the back of the head and headbutted her in the face and screamed 'I will f*ing kill you'. Depp then pushed her face into a mattress and repeatedly punched her in the back of the head

Well, AH is not in a franchise that millions of children will watch. They can decide this out of court. Also, the balance of power in that relationship was so massively tilted in his favour from day one. That is what manipulators mostly do: they find someone much younger to control.
Heartsandflower · 06/11/2020 19:40

Good.

Bigpaintinglittlepainting · 06/11/2020 19:41

Well I would not agree she’s as bad as him

I don’t want to watch him in films, I’m sure he’ll get another role soon enough though

SionnachRua · 06/11/2020 19:42

That's good to know about Eddie Redmayne, makes me more willing to check out his films if anything.

I don't think either of them came out of it well tbh. Both as bad as each other.

SheepandCow · 06/11/2020 19:42

Domestic abuse charities in the sun article:

Lisa King, of Refuge, said: “This is an important ruling and one which we hope sends a very powerful message: A common tactic used by perpetrators of domestic abuse is to repeatedly tell victims that no one will believe them - and to use power to try and silence them

What we have seen today is power, fame and financial resources cannot be used to silence women.”

Nicki Norman, chief executive of Women’s Aid, said...Everyone who has experienced domestic abuse deserves to be listened to and believed.

This also applies to survivors who do not fit the image of the "perfect victim - and regardless of the high profile of the alleged abuser.

There is no excuse for domestic abuse.”

TheMarzipanDildo · 06/11/2020 19:42

“What’s Eddie redmayne done?“

Nothing, but he has been irritating with the TWAW thing.

I find it bizarre that "They're as bad as each other" seems to cancel out his violence, somehow Hmm

Does his violence cancel out her alleged violence?
