In a letter to fans, Depp said he had been "asked to resign" from his role as Gellert Grindelwald and had "respected that and agreed to that request".

Good.

Johnny Depp is a wife beater and the texts he sent were foully misogynistic - calling AH a 'flappy fish market' and he wanted to rape her burnt corpse. I don't see how anyone can excuse that level of misogyny - I cannot imagine the men in my life using language like about any woman, even during a divorce. It is hate speech - never mind the proved violence.

EugenesAxe · 06/11/2020 19:48

No great loss. Every time I see him in that stupid perfume ad I think he's (now) sadly style over substance, and a poor actor.

He has been brilliant; it's a shame the drugs have addled him.

SheepandCow · 06/11/2020 19:48

Both as bad as each other
Be careful... You wouldn't want to commit libel when discussing a libel case...

First, counter allegations are a very well known tactic of abusers. Second, given the details of the many serious incidents of domestic violence, it's likely anything that Amber might have done was self defence or Battered Wife Syndrome.

The Sun article makes it crystal clear. Johnny Depp is a (proven in court) wife beater.

I think my issue with it is how she is portraying herself with the whole champagne balloon etc. It doesn’t come across well for some reason.
I find it really sad the whole thing. Yes- I guess it is because I’m a fan of his, but also because they do sound like they were both abusive so who knows who started the whole thing off.
AH may have been abusive in different ways, not physical. If she was belittling him for example the tattoo- then that is abusive, but in a different way.
Physical abuse is never appropriate, neither is any other type.
We have to accept the judges verdict as that is now the ruling. End of.
He heard all the evidence and we weren’t there so that’s it really!

Thewithesarehere · 06/11/2020 19:52

Part of being brilliant is knowing when to move on and let others take the spotlight. Knowing you are growing up. I never get Depp. I just don’t see what his generation saw in him. Perhaps it’s a Netflix effect that I have seen so many excellent actors now that I feel this lot was so massively overrated and plumped up artificially.

SheepandCow · 06/11/2020 19:54

How would you like her to "portray herself" Gizmo79? Crushed and beaten down?

Thewithesarehere · 06/11/2020 19:55

In all honesty, I would have lost a lot of respect for JK Rowling if she had let Depp stay. She is awesome though and knows what to do and when.

DownThePlath · 06/11/2020 19:59

@Thewithesarehere

Is it not true? I don't particularly think much of people who are recorded saying nobody would believe he'd been hit because he's a man.

Oh, and I'm clearly not the only 'apologist' on this thread. Lol.

DownThePlath · 06/11/2020 20:01

@Bigpaintinglittlepainting

Well I would not agree she’s as bad as him

I don’t want to watch him in films, I’m sure he’ll get another role soon enough though

Agreed. Good on him.
BelleSausage · 06/11/2020 20:01

It’s pretty clear that they were both out of control. He was obviously high all the time and became violent.

She is obviously a narcissist who treated the staff like crap. She stole her assistants rape experience and was going to use it as a false allegation. That makes her suspect in my books.

DownThePlath · 06/11/2020 20:02

Woops, wrong @. That was for @SionnachRua

Rowling hasn't been mentioned, has she? The studio asked him to step down.

She gave him her backing when he was cast and the allegations came out.

Has she admitted beating up her partner?

Yup, she has been recorded saying that she hit him (amongst other things) in tapes that have been released.

It’s a shame that little shit Redmayne hasn’t been similarly dispensed with. Funny how he’s happy to take the pay check that comes from Rowling’s work at the same time as he joins the mob condemning her.

Well I don’t know how to quote more than one poster. Yours was a short post direct so I quoted it.
Either way, you don’t come across well. Imagine posting this on Relationship boards.

@FrippEnos If someone did to me what Depp did to her, one of my instincts would be to beat the fuck out of them too. Look at the scale of it FFS.
Thewithesarehere · 06/11/2020 20:10

@GCAcademic
Yeah he has lost me forever and I don’t think he was a top actor to begin with anyway.
It was embarrassing to see him on the opposite side of Rowling’s intellect. I felt quite sorry for him at one stage.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 06/11/2020 20:10

Good. Violent, odious little creep that he is, and a shit actor to boot.

Also for those whining that Amber Heard hasn't been dropped from Aquaman - women are absolutely held to account for their actions, more so than men if you ask me. Lea Michele got sacked from Hello Fresh because some ex colleagues came out and said she wasn't nice to work with.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 06/11/2020 20:13

His campaign in the favour of TWAW is fucking infuriating and it exposed him as an arrogant and ignorant twit who prefers his image to women rights. It was very embarrassing to watch

This was especially annoying as, for all he says he a trans advocate, he as a man took the role of a transwomen - and utterly butchered it. Simpering, with a high girly voice and doing the annoying Princess Di head down/eyes up thing, he basically parodied a woman and thought he could get away with being that shit

FrippEnos · 06/11/2020 20:15

Thewithesarehere

You will believe what you want.

You don't even believe it when she has been recorded and said it herself.

I don't believe that on the balance of probabilities that he is innocent but I don't believe that she is innocent either.

Careful. Do you have medical proof that she's a 'narcissist' and 'stole' a 'rape experience'? Be ever so unfortunate to commit libel when discussing a libel case...

I do believe it but the balance of power was so massively in his favour that I didn’t really imagine courts will consider this on a scale. I was right. This is exactly what the court did. So 🤷🏻‍♀️

Absolutely what Thewithesarehere says. Given the (proven in a court of law) evidence of Johnny Depp's violent domestic abuse, it's more than likely that anything she possibly did (and we don't know because recordings can be out of context) was self defence or Battered Wife Syndrome.
Thewithesarehere · 06/11/2020 20:22

@GlummyMcGlummerson
I haven’t watched that movie at all. Just the trailer was unbearable. I used to think he might be fine otherwise because sometimes you can’t refuse a role. But the Rowling saga changed my opinion of him. He jumped on the bandwagon. Used to getting what we can, are we?

You were the one that brought scale into this so why the shrug?
