Man refuses to get out of shared lift

232 replies

Georgeoftheinternet · 03/11/2020 00:37

Obviously we don’t know the whole story but it would appear that a person wanted to share a lift by themself.

Others facts - he may have alluded to her having corona. He record her. Neither wear wearing masks. Enclosed space.

Thoughts?

My personal thoughts are that she was in the right. If she wanted to use the lift by herself than I think people should respect her decision. To go around ranting, recording and speaking to her in a raised voice, especially given her reaction - than he’s out of order.

@Caroncanta

How about looking up how black people have been treated in China during this Covid outbreak before spouting your mouth off

Oh right, so this woman is to blame for all that is she? No. She is not. Give over. You do not do BLM any favours with this sort of rhetoric. Shame on you.

You bought BLM up, not me. Shame on you.
CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/11/2020 14:10

@C130

I accept your apology Curiousamphire. No hyperbolising here about how black people have been treated in China. No she is not reponsible for all the racism going on in China. I do not know if she is even of Chinese heritage. My post was in response to another poster, which you already know, but you like to go off on one on these threads.
Ha ha ha ha ha !
switswooo · 03/11/2020 14:10

And I also dislike this idea that when black people are treated badly they should be 'gentlemanly', as a pp said upthread. If someone repeatedly told me I had to vacate a lift or refuse to let go the 'hold' button, I would them to fuck off too.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/11/2020 14:11

You bought BLM up, not me. Shame on you. As has been said a few yimes HE BROUGHT IT UP. All over his SM.

Ooops! Speaking out of turn again.

switswooo · 03/11/2020 14:11

Can you not see that he was doing precisely the same thing?

So you're saying he told her to get out because the lift is meant for 1? Or that he tried to press the 'hold' button? I must have missed that @CuriousaboutSamphire !

Caroncanta · 03/11/2020 14:12

So you're not trying to bring the fact that he was black into this. Good to hear. 😉

Nope! Too obtuse for me! You said she was using her privilege... so was he.

You didn't mention buttons or speaking...

C130 · 03/11/2020 14:15

It matters to me not a jot about the colour of anybody.

switswooo · 03/11/2020 14:16

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

She left as soon as as someone else appeared to witness her behaviour.

She knew she was being filmed. Why would she be worried about one more witness?

A real life witness is very different to being filmed. It was a catalyst for her because she didn't want anyone to witness her abhorrent behaviour.
switswooo · 03/11/2020 14:17

Nope! Too obtuse for me! You said she was using her privilege... so was he.

What, the privilege of being able to record people? Yes, and I'm bloody glad black people are using it!

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 03/11/2020 14:18

What, being called bitch and worse?

user1481840227 · 03/11/2020 14:18

She might have been in the wrong to initially say she only wanted one person in the lift, but anyone can be wrong and make a mistake, it doesn't mean that she deserved for it to escalate like that. It also doesn't mean that she's responsible for the entire exchange that followed.

Almost instantly he was racist towards her...so we do not know what direction the initial wrong would have taken or how quickly and easily it would have been sorted out if he hadn't been racist towards her.

It doesn't even feel right to discuss this in terms of Karens but if anyone was actually a Karen in this case it was him.....he responded to one small wrong with an over the top reaction, racist abuse and a threat to shame her publicly!

switswooo · 03/11/2020 14:19

@ChardonnaysPetDragon for trying to make someone do something they don't have to. Holding the door open was provocative.

Ah! I was meaning his MALE privilege, his bombast, aggression, swearing, posting across his SM with those hashtags, and all that!

Fuck all to do with his skin colour!

switswooo · 03/11/2020 14:21

I'm a card carrying feminist, but women don't get a free pass for asinine behaviour. She was in the wrong.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 03/11/2020 14:21

Abhorrent? For not wanting to share a lift with someone who wasn’t wearing a mask in times of pandemic?

Oh the sheltered lives some people are blessed with.

switswooo · 03/11/2020 14:22

So what was he supposed to do whilst she stood there holding the 'hold' button? Beg her to leave?

switswooo · 03/11/2020 14:23

Nope abhorrent because she decided not to just vacate the lift and get it later. As you very well know.
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 03/11/2020 14:26

Why should she? Just because a man is ranting at her?

Your threshold for abhorrent seems a bit off.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/11/2020 14:26

The problem Swit is both of them had the same choices. They both chose not to act in a more friendly, understanding manner. They both chose to act/react badly.

They are both fuckwits, I'd hate to be acquainted with either of them.

AllsortsofAwkward · 03/11/2020 14:26

She could have worn a mask she is out of order the poster says 2 ppl. She's holding up a lift and potentially disabled people could be waiting for it to come up. She had the issue she should have gotten out and abated.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/11/2020 14:27

Oh my word! How much more can be crammed into this?

Racism, misogyny, disablism....

workshy44 · 03/11/2020 14:32

I agree user1481840227
He was incredible aggressive , escalated things and looked to me to be loving the whole thing, turning the camera on himself, fixing his glasses and hat.
He also was the one who was racist and sexist, I absolutely loath the term "Karen"
I wouldn't have dug my heels in like her, I would have just let him get on with it but I don't think he is the innocent here.

switswooo · 03/11/2020 14:33

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

Why should she? Just because a man is ranting at her?

Because the lift is meant for 2 people. If you want to be on your own you have to inconvenience yourself, not others!
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 03/11/2020 14:38

So she didn’t, but fir this to be called abhorrent and for to be subjected to all sorts of abusive language and behaviour is quite disproportionate.

Most people will raise an eyebrow and move on.

He chose to abuse her. You choose to condone his behaviour.
