Man refuses to get out of shared lift

Georgeoftheinternet · 03/11/2020 00:37

Obviously we don’t know the whole story but it would appear that a person wanted to share a lift by themself.

Others facts - he may have alluded to her having corona. He record her. Neither wear wearing masks. Enclosed space.

Thoughts?

My personal thoughts are that she was in the right. If she wanted to use the lift by herself than I think people should respect her decision. To go around ranting, recording and speaking to her in a raised voice, especially given her reaction - than he’s out of order.

This thread is full of white people who are angry that black people record things, so racism can no longer be swept under the rug.

He did a good job of exposing himself as a racist that's for sure. But you're so blinkered you don't even see that.

switswooo · 03/11/2020 11:44

She was refusing to let the lift go up or to leave the lift.
She pressed the alarm instead of just leaving the lift
She left as soon as as someone else appeared to witness her behaviour.

She was completely in the wrong.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 03/11/2020 11:45

She left as soon as as someone else appeared to witness her behaviour.

She knew she was being filmed. Why would she be worried about one more witness?

Caroncanta · 03/11/2020 11:56

She left as soon as as someone else appeared to witness her behaviour

It's likely she left because there was yet another person in the lift, and clearly the racist aggressive man was not backing down. And she was being filmed anyway, your assumption of her leaving because of a witness makes no sense.

SicklyToaster · 03/11/2020 11:59

There aren't any regulations around lifts. If you are in one and don't want anyone else to join you, you don't have any authority backing you.
If I were in that situation and were adamant that I didn't want to share, I'd get out and wait or use the stairs.

LangClegsInSpace · 03/11/2020 12:03

This is the video where he says 'It's you people that brought corona'. Racist AF.

Just a few points, those saying where they live, the rules are this or you have do that and under the covid you should to the other are missing the point. The lift clearly says two people can travel. That is what the rule is for that lift is and if you dont like it you can take it up with the management company. You can not just decide that you want to do it a different way or, as some posters decide that rules they think of are better and should trump anything else.
The woman is definitely in the wrong, we do not know how urgent the mans trip is but anyone would be frustrated in that circumstance.
Also I would take issue on those saying he is being aggressive and hostile. The much more aggressive and hostile stance is being taken by the woman who is not allowing any movement to be made. I feel sure that those berating him would change their view if it was him standing in the controls demanding her to get off and not allowing the lift to move.
He was a dick to make this racist though.

Caroncanta · 03/11/2020 12:14

She might be wrong for not letting the lift go. But his behaviour was far far worse. Her behaviour paled into insignificance after that. Personally I would have got out of the lift if I was her because I wouldn't want to be in close proximity to an agressive abusive and racist dick.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 03/11/2020 12:14

We know, he says he had a fucking date, whatever that means.

Caroncanta · 03/11/2020 12:19

Lol, let's hope he didn't have a fucking date after the unlucky date saw that video showing the world what he really is.

SebastianTheCrab · 03/11/2020 13:19

"Asian Karen" is both a racist and sexist title for that video.

The woman was in the wrong if it says 2 people but he was OTT and aggressive to a woman alone in an enclosed space with him.

The gentlemanly thing to do would have been to just let her ride and wait for the next one.

C130 · 03/11/2020 13:42

@Caroncanta

I do wonder if she would have told a white/Asian person to leave the lift.

Why wouldn't she have done? Or are you trying to shoehorn BLM into this as well?

How about looking up how black people have been treated in China during this Covid outbreak before spouting your mouth off.
CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/11/2020 13:48

How about looking up how black people have been treated in China during this Covid outbreak before spouting your mouth off. Well, THIS Asian woman didn't do that.

But THIS black man was racist!

They are both in London!

If she is to be held personally responsible for all racism on China then he can be held responsible for all, let's see, domestic violence? in the UK.

Or is that just too ridiculous, do you think?

C130 · 03/11/2020 13:48

@Offthebus

Whether or not he said she brought coronavirus as that isn't recorded, he did say "although I should be running from you" and calls her "you people" - that's not an assumption that's what's recorded HE is racist and if she wanted to stand up for herself in that case she had all the right to do so. The whole concept isn't that she was holding a lift and not took the stairs it's him labelling her as a racist when he is the racist.
Where was he racist?
CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/11/2020 13:50

Right at the beginning and off and on throughout all HE filmed.

Don't make this your hill. He was racist.

I was not asking you, but I must have missed the bit where he hit her. Oh but he did not did he? So what the hell are you going on about domestic violence for?
CuriousaboutSamphire · 03/11/2020 13:55

I apologise. I shall speak/post only when spoken / posted to!

And the violence but was hyperbole, in the same vein as your comment about China.

I did ask if that suggestion was as ridiculous as yours... but you seem to have missed it!

Caroncanta · 03/11/2020 14:01

Oh right, so this woman is to blame for all that is she? No. She is not. Give over. You do not do BLM any favours with this sort of rhetoric. Shame on you.

switswooo · 03/11/2020 14:06

I'm an Asian woman, but I can see this woman was using her privilege to try and get a black man to vacate a space for her.

The irony is she spent much longer in his presence than if she had just vacated the flat herself. This was not about the virus for her, this was her trying to exercise her perceived superiority.

switswooo · 03/11/2020 14:06

*lift nor flat

Caroncanta · 03/11/2020 14:07

No she wasn't.

C130 · 03/11/2020 14:08

I accept your apology Curiousamphire. No hyperbolising here about how black people have been treated in China. No she is not reponsible for all the racism going on in China. I do not know if she is even of Chinese heritage. My post was in response to another poster, which you already know, but you like to go off on one on these threads.

switswooo · 03/11/2020 14:08

Great argument. Not.

Can you not see that he was doing precisely the same thing?

Neither of them behaved well.
