Please help

OP posts:
eloiseislost · 31/10/2020 07:03

I'm sorry you are upset. Also, which news are you referring to, so much sh*t going on these days!

inappropriateraspberry · 31/10/2020 07:07

?

Oryxx · 31/10/2020 07:08

Can you explain what has upset you OP?

RishiMcRichface · 31/10/2020 07:10

Is it the possible national lockdown?

PleasantVille · 31/10/2020 07:11

I'd guess the news of a posible lockdown for November

Until here are more details no one knows what it might look like

Emeeno1 · 31/10/2020 07:14

It helps me to think of others who are so much worse off than me and have to endure so much more. Like the Syrians, many of whom have had to endure civil war for nine years, who have lost everything they ever knew and are now in refugee camps where the virus is spreading.

They've already faced an unrelenting, violent war for nearly a decade and now a pandemic. It helps me put my concerns for a winter lockdown in to perspective.

Persipan · 31/10/2020 07:16

I know it sucks, but you can get through it. You have a 100% track record of getting through even the most difficult things, and you can get through this, too. Sending you solidarity and hope and good wishes, OP.

So upsetting and stressful. I don’t want to save Christmas. I want to save people’s jobs.

I totally agree
QuentinInQuarantino · 31/10/2020 07:53

Thanksop, it is so shit.

Made so much worse by people who will be utterly unaffected by it championing it to "save Christmas."

In reality many people's Christmases will be destroyed by their job losses just beforehand.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 31/10/2020 08:00

Hopefully

It is just one month
The schools will be open
There will be financial support

Deep breath and get through it I guess.

This is a totally fair perspective but if we reached the projected 4000 deaths a day, how do you suppose that would affect the economy? If businesses have to randomly close due to lack of staff, what impact do you think that would have?
Etinox · 31/10/2020 08:04

Switch off the news. Is there anything low risk but helpful for lockdown you can do today? Visit relatives with a thermos and sit in their garden?
My plan
•prebooked trip visit
•buy coal and wood and fill up car with petrol
•collect won on EBay christmas present
•shopping- with good list and prepared to cancel if long queues
•find packed away stuff to package and then post to far away dd if I find a queue less post office
•persuade DH to stay at home as he dithers around chatting to people and buying crap.
•plan work this week. I had swapped Monday for Thursday to deliver a course, assuming that’s cancelled so do I need to now go in Monday or can I access everything from home? Draft email to direct manager and liaise with big boss.

Possible tasks I’ve not decided on whether I should do
•get cash out
•get pedicure Blush

Flowers @Spotthedoggies and everyone else in a panic this morning.

TwilightSkies · 31/10/2020 08:09

No real advice, just a handhold. It’s all so shit.
You’re allowed to feel like shit without comparing yourself with people who are worse off.
It’s not normal for humans to live in this way, shut off from each other, no pleasures in life, not able to make any plans, eyeing our neighbours with suspicion, feeling stressed and fearful all the time.

Try to turn the news off today if you can, give yourself a wee break from it. Get some fresh air and a nice cup of tea.

Nailgirl · 31/10/2020 08:19

It is shit. Really shit.

etopp · 31/10/2020 08:30

Yes, it's shit, OP.

It's just as well that Christmas is the last thing I'm bothered about, as I haven't had a penny of income since early March so it's not happening for my family anyway.

This morning's news is the worst I could have heard. You are not alone.

^ this 100%
Woods52 · 31/10/2020 08:33

This exactly. I think this every day.

Well said. I am sad about missing Christmas with my parents, my dad is 80 and not in good health BUT, it’s just a day, we can Zoom and send presents in the post and see each other later. It’s really not the end of the world. But people losing jobs, their businesses going under, that’s far more serious and not something you can just get a grip and move on from.
lovelemoncurd · 31/10/2020 08:37

It's not really to save Xmas it's to save ICU bed capacity. The Xmas thing will be put out there because people can relate to wanting a nice Xmas they can't relate to ICU ( thankfully).

Woods52 · 31/10/2020 08:37

@Emeeno1 This exactly. I think this every day.

rc22 · 31/10/2020 08:46

Like others have said there are countries going through so much worse.

It is difficult though and I started to get really down with it all last night. Absolutely the only solution is to stop reading about it, stop watching news about it and find something to do to distract yourself.

Take it a day at a time. This too shall pass. (Sorry to wheel out the cliches but I do find they really help!)

KrakowDawn · 31/10/2020 08:49

You're referring to the hundreds missing after the earthquake in Turkey? So worrying for their families isn't it?
Or the Kurdish family that drowned in the Channel?

inappropriateraspberry · 31/10/2020 08:50

If we do this now, it will help in the long term. The problem is all those that are ignoring the rules now, and will ignore them in the future. It holds us back and they are selfish pricks.

PaddyF0dder · 31/10/2020 08:51

I’m relieved.

Covid has ravaged my extended family in recent weeks.

We need to get it back under control.
