Hi all

I couldn’t find the new thread so here is one I set up. It’s windy out there! Glad I weeded my flowerbeds a couple of days ago.

I said most people are trying to leave...not come here

WouldBeGood · 03/11/2020 17:27

@TabbyStar that’s weird, I had a rash like that and on my palms and soles of my feet years ago when I had an infected gallbladder

TabbyStar · 03/11/2020 17:33

The GP I spoke to said that the rash on the palms and feet was what indicated that it was "systemic" I think he said rather than an allergy. The research paper linked at the bottom says that about 20% of people get the rash with the other covid symptoms, and 35% in the "recovery" stage.

HitchikersGuide · 03/11/2020 17:41

My DP had hives on his head with Covid 😂. Obviously we didn't know at the time that rashes could be a symptom so with our seemingly odd symptoms we didn't isolate. One of my many bugbears is that it is not rare for viruses to cause many very different symptoms ( 'non-specific viral rash' being one ) yet the Govt insisted on a ridiculously short list of symptoms and emphasised repeatedly the worst ones. That meant that many of us were going round in March unaware that we had it and therefore presumably asymptomatically spreading it. A bit more honesty would actually have allowed less spread.

@BogRollBOGOF

What was the new link for the localised maps?

I'm having a better day. Helped by DH being on a site so having the house to myself and going to Tuesday's outdoor fitness class in lieu of Thursday's. No crying on the school playground. My brain is like mush though.

Not sure if you're asking about the map I put up or something else - but that's the link if it is.

TabbyStar · 03/11/2020 18:13

The Govt page with the map (scroll down) is coronavirus-staging.data.gov.uk/

justasking111 · 03/11/2020 18:27

Well am having a lovely time on another thread some amazing links to quirky online sellers, found lots or arty stuff for two grown up arty type sons.

Worth keeping a note of. I am only on page 5 and have picked out lots of things.

Just got back from a holiday in the Lyme Regis area. Absolutely one of my favourite places and so pleased it didn't get cancelled again (we were meant to go at Easter). Such a tonic for the soul after this stupid year...now back to worrying about potential school closures Sad[/quote]
I'm jealous! I'm still clinging onto to the hope we might get there as it's not until 4th December. If we can't I'm going to ask the agency to move it to my birthday in March just in case we can go then. We've got an apartment overlooking the Cobb and I don't care if we have to get takeaways every night!

@shinynewapple2020 DH thinks it's hilarious that I've ordered a hat but I'll have the last laugh when I'm toasty warm! It's just a shame I haven't got a heated steering wheel.

NothingIsWrong · 03/11/2020 18:51

@justasking111 I've just done about 1/3rd of my Christmas shopping based on that thread :-)

TheOrchidKiller · 03/11/2020 18:51

You've all had a busy day, haven't you?

Listening to snatches of the radio on my rounds today.

Jeremy Vine had a caller who said if people didn't comply this time then perhaps Boris would find a use for those water canons at last. Nice.

Not sure how I feel about mass testing. I do a weekly test anyway, I'm not doing another. I don't know how I feel about the rest of the family being tested.

Someone told me today they really want mass testing here as it would be reassuring (not for me, the threat of being made to isolate is worse), & we'd get restrictions lifted quicker. Surely more tests will initially find more cases, which gives them more ammo to keep restrictions in place for longer?

I don't know, I'm tired & have brain-ache.

110APiccadilly · 03/11/2020 18:52

@AcornAutumn I was trying to be funny about the 5th of November being Guy Fawkes Night. I may have a warped sender of humour.

110APiccadilly · 03/11/2020 18:52

sense of humour!

I agree with you.

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 03/11/2020 19:04

I got that is-it-isn't-it nasty respiratory bug at the end of December and definitely got the weird toe spots. I had a couple on my hands as well.

The government has shown us it can't be trusted to act on data from testing in any sensible or useful way. Also, where are we on test reliability?

A national testing strategy to gauge prevalence among the population would need to use a sampling strategy to be achievable or reliable.

TheOrchidKiller · 03/11/2020 19:16

@AcornAutumn
"I agree with you."

It's always good to know someone does. I start to doubt myself sometimes.

Same person rushed off to get a test when someone in their house tested positive, again for peace of mind. I really wanted to say "but if you test too soon it's a waste of time, & you're self-isolating anyway so a negative test won't change anything."

This is the 3rd time I've heard of asymptomatic householders being offered tests when someone in their house has booked their own test. I thought we were told not to get tested unless we had symptoms.

It's so contradictory.

BogRollBOGOF · 03/11/2020 19:23

Thanks for the data/ maps links. It was the middle super output map I was after, but the other link was interesting too (especially the excess deaths graph).

Rates in my local area have really jumped up, and while my city was an early hotspot, it was mainly concentrated in the inner city areas which then had a steady trickle through the summer, but now the suburbs are having their turn. Not surprising with various hotspots easily commutable. The sting of lockdown is being eased a little by the fact that rates are elevated at present, but then it defers the issue later into the winter.

The real question is the interraction between covid and the usual winter nasties. Will there be a longer, lower peak of the most suceptible falling seriously ill/ reaching the end of life rather than the usual post-new year peak with flu.

AcornAutumn · 03/11/2020 19:31

Yes. And people are offered amazon vouchers to get tested as part of studies. Of course I understand the need for research but I’d prioritise infection control.

I am having one of my despairing moments. I feel lost and scared. Not of any virus but all this.

Threads ago I failed to go to the zoo. I am trying again tomorrow before it closes on Thursday and I am absolutely terrified. I don't know why the possibility of verbal attack makes me so scared. Why does it?

And ffs, no one should be made to feel afraid for wanting to do a perfectly normal activity. I have been to this place so many times and now I just am so nervous about it and it's our last chance.

I hate this feeling and I can't get past it.

Not too bad atm thankfully... fingers crossed it doesn't get worse and I'm one of the lucky ones.

Most concerningly.... I don't even fancy a drink.
