I accidentally went into a trendy shop today...

.... and it was so trendy I didn’t even recognise it as trendy. I got confused and assumed I had temporarily time travelled 25 years in the past when the site of this particular Urban Outfitters was in fact a Banardos.

I was brought back to present time by the helpful 17 yr old who could clearly see I was lost in time and asked me if he could help (escort me to the nearest M&S where I clearly belong).

I hope the photos work.

Ah shellsuits 😂. I had an amazing purple one with chevron pattern at the top, it looked amazing with my cool spiral perm (I was 13)!

DinosaurGrrrrr · 16/10/2020 19:14

I swear I had that pink shell suit in the first pic circa 1992, mine was just like that!

Spiderbaby8 · 16/10/2020 19:16

Is it wrong I like the jumper Blush Shell suits should never see the light of day again, I still get flashbacks.

Hiccupiscal · 16/10/2020 19:16

Never did the shell suit thing, always hated them..
But God, I love ugly clothes. I love and ugly jumper.
Only thing is I'm too lazy to wear anything other than leggings, sensible boots and useful hoodies these days Grin

I wish I still had it in me to attempt to be trendy, as I genuinely love ugly charity shop style clothes... no way would I be purchasing them from anywhere other than a charity shop though ..

However, next time I'm in a shopping center, I will be seeking out an UO just to see these items in person!... mind you, by the time I frequent a shopping center now, the trend will probably be something totally different Grin

Echobelly · 16/10/2020 19:17

NB, just think about how our parents felt about us wearing 70s shirts and flares and stinky old leather jackets from Camden Market Grin

CherryValanc · 16/10/2020 19:17

That could be my 17 year old's wardrobe. Only know it's not because it's too tidy.

He is particularly pleased with himself for having got a genuine 80s shell suit top. I made the mistake of telling him I never wore one as I saw a programme on TV where one had been set on fire and melted onto someone's skin (May have been an episode of Casualty. Now everytime he puts it on he kindly informs me "I'll try not to get set on fire"

Mrsemcgregor · 16/10/2020 19:18

Did shell suits used to generate a static charge, or is that a false memory?!

Like something off depop

TheOrchidKiller · 16/10/2020 19:18

@Mrsemcgregor
He will come round. In about 5 years' time.

Went into one of these shops with DS last year. He is not so much into them, tends to like the skater-type clothes (he does not do skate-boarding). Was greeted by the young man on the till with, "Hey dude, you having a great day?"
I have never been called "Dude" before. Or since. Grin

thanksamillion · 16/10/2020 19:20

I knew this would be Urban Outfitters. It's DDs favourite shop and the first time I was amazed. Now I like to go and have a laugh to myself.

TheOneWhoWalksInTheSun · 16/10/2020 19:22

That looks to me like a charity shop rail.

I am old!

diddl · 16/10/2020 19:24

It's a charity shop again, surely?

TheMarzipanDildo · 16/10/2020 19:27

I really like Harry Styles’s fashion sense on him- he’s a very flamboyant dresser and he gets away with it by being young and pretty.
That picture upthread might be pushing it though!

MitziK · 16/10/2020 19:29

@Elieza

Barnardos. Stupid spellcheck leave me alone damn it.
Oh, I don't know. You might not see them in a barnyard, but there are probably a few scarecrows wearing similar in the next field along.
LostFrog · 16/10/2020 19:30

Grin thanks OP. Pmsl. Needed that.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/10/2020 19:34

Wait ... so that ISN'T a charity shop? Shock

My very thought

Being in my 60s I've never visited, but I'm going to tomorrow as I could use a good laugh
Will I suit the ambience I wonder ... ?

Margotshypotheticaldog · 16/10/2020 19:35

I mean, no-oone actually goes out with the INTENTION of being set on fire.....

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 16/10/2020 19:35

In that awkward age where I was too young to wear it the first time round. But too old old to wear it this time round

ultrababy · 16/10/2020 19:35

I’m 44 and am obsessed with UO I’m reliving the youth I never had and buying all the stuff we couldn’t afford back then. This makes me the best step mother on the planet as they are the same size as me.

Good luck with your new job, op!

Bambooshoot · 16/10/2020 19:43

I had a jumper just like the first one in the picture, it was French Connection. The first time my boyfriend saw it, he christened it "the dumping jumper" and said, if I ever felt we were going nowhere, all I had to do was wear it, and no more needed to be said . . . .

Poor, unworn, now trendy jumper.

Rapunzathepenguin · 16/10/2020 19:43

The love for the 1980s a la Stranger Things is making me laugh at the minute as well. I was there. They definitely weren't as much fun as it makes them out to be. At least not in the UK.

DelphineWalsh · 16/10/2020 19:44

What? You lot have no style. I Love this look.

So glad I kept my Sweater shop jumpers Grin

BlackSwan · 16/10/2020 19:45

Purple shell suit with puckered elbows and teal contrast poking through? Oh the humanity!
