I accidentally went into a trendy shop today...

.... and it was so trendy I didn’t even recognise it as trendy. I got confused and assumed I had temporarily time travelled 25 years in the past when the site of this particular Urban Outfitters was in fact a Banardos.

I was brought back to present time by the helpful 17 yr old who could clearly see I was lost in time and asked me if he could help (escort me to the nearest M&S where I clearly belong).

I hope the photos work.

Oh my goodness are those shell suits? 😵

This this this. Do they not know what a fire hazard they are?

sHREDDIES19 · 16/10/2020 18:14

This made me 😂 Absolutely so true that fashion always comes back around. Never thought some of this would made a resurgence though!

eleventylevennamechanges · 16/10/2020 18:16

Last time my niece came to visit (before pandemic), I opened the door and had a weird moment thinking it was my sister from the 70s. Very disturbing.

FuzzyPuffling · 16/10/2020 18:16

Did the acrylicky jumper come pre-bobbled under the armpits?

Mrsemcgregor · 16/10/2020 18:16

There’s definitely somethings that are better left in the past!

This is where the younger mumsnet members clutch their metaphorical pearls but I'm 47 and I love Urban Outfitters.

I've got quite a few bits from there. Although I can't wear the stuff that exposes your belly any more 😂

Oodlesofnoodles20 · 16/10/2020 18:18

That shop is crying out for some Kickers, would be the icing on the cake.

tearstainedbakes · 16/10/2020 18:20

@OneMillionSteps

Is it a second hand part of the shop? Otherwise why is there only one of each item?
It will be, they have a vintage section.

The rest is 90s style but new - with a selection of sizes 😂😉

ChocolateCherrybomb · 16/10/2020 18:21

Crikey!!!

Late 80's/Early 90's clothing.

Oh my...the memories...the eyeball trauma.

Trigger warning required I think.

ChasedByFox · 16/10/2020 18:23

Oh lord, I have seen yoofs wearing this stuff.
Kappa tracksuit tops too
They were so fugly first time round, let alone now when we have amazing modern fabrics and manufacturing techniques.

burnoutbabe · 16/10/2020 18:24

a vintage sections of one off items makes more sense

Its not that its a weird fashion, more than to only have 1 of any item (and in one size) doesn't seem like a normal clothes shop would do that (unless its like trainers and you have to then ask for YOUR size from out the back?)

petalpower · 16/10/2020 18:25

My 18 year old daughter loves Urban Outfitters. I have to stand outside if she goes there as it’s so dreadful.

ChocolateCherrybomb · 16/10/2020 18:25

Wait...

This is now?

What the ever loving fuck?

Toomanycats99 · 16/10/2020 18:26

I am 48 and there are some bits I like in there (not those bits though!)

My 13yo has proclaimed she won't shop there any more as they support Donald trump. In some ways it's a blessing at £40 for a pair of plain grey tracky bottoms that look like I could have picked them up in primark!

Toomanycats99 · 16/10/2020 18:28

Actually looking on website they have 'urban renewal vintage' carefully sourced apparently. £25 for a pair of Adidas bottoms. They were probably a fiver in a charity shop originally!

FreshFreesias · 16/10/2020 18:28

😂😂

garlictwist · 16/10/2020 18:28

It's all very Saves by the Bell, isn't it?

Killerofmen · 16/10/2020 18:29

I still have nightmares of my shellsuit catching fire. They made us watch a video about it at school so it's my second greatest fear, after getting hit by a train.

OneMillionSteps · 16/10/2020 18:29

Ah thanks tearstainedbakes

Think I’d better stick to M&S too!

garlictwist · 16/10/2020 18:29

ChocolateCherrybomb · 16/10/2020 18:29

Is this the Coronavirus symptom nobody ever discusses?

Lack of oxygen to the brain leaves people with a yearning for really ugly clothes.

Could it be used instead of antibody testing...highly visible and cheaper.

Mrsemcgregor · 16/10/2020 18:30

Me too! Because it didn’t just catch fire but it also melted to your skin! 😱

Oh my eyes, my eyes. Those clothes are gruesome and hilarious in equal measure. I had no idea this stuff was in fashion again, but then I am well old. Thanks for the laughs though, Op.

BTW, WTF is Harry Styles wearing? 😧😧

FlyingSquid · 16/10/2020 18:30

You haven't met my 19 year old. Currently sporting baggy cords (deliberately too big) tied round the waist with a shoe lace, & a heavily-patterned jumper last seen making an appearance in a 1980s branch of Burtons. She does actually look good in them.

Give back my daughter immediately.

Margotshypotheticaldog · 16/10/2020 18:31

Harry Styles looks like my mum in that photo. Hair and all.
