I accidentally went into a trendy shop today...

.... and it was so trendy I didn’t even recognise it as trendy. I got confused and assumed I had temporarily time travelled 25 years in the past when the site of this particular Urban Outfitters was in fact a Banardos.

I was brought back to present time by the helpful 17 yr old who could clearly see I was lost in time and asked me if he could help (escort me to the nearest M&S where I clearly belong).

I hope the photos work.

@tectonicplates I remember the episode of watchdog where they set fire to them! The M&S ones never burnt but then they were just a poor matte muted colour imitation of the real thing..... and my mother still wouldn’t buy one for me

My 16 year old is also doing the shoelace on her baggy jeans! I couldn’t work out why there was a shoelace in the washing machine with no shoe attached? Although why there would be a shoe in there, but anyway, she grabbed it and said it was her belt !

cheesecrack · 16/10/2020 17:50

Oh wow. What a rave from the grave. Sweater Shop stuff Smile

Mrsemcgregor · 16/10/2020 17:52

Shoelaces are belts? Grin oh as awful as I find it I am glad that the next generation are experimenting and having fun with fashion! I miss being young.

That rack of shell suits looks like a row of jockey's colours Grin

ImEatingVeryHealthilyOhYes · 16/10/2020 17:57

I used shoelaces for bracelets during grunge. Q hard to get off so they stayed put for months Shock

BarbaraofSeville · 16/10/2020 17:59

@LynetteScavo

And the thing is, DH and I don't want to pay for those clothes. We've only just thrown ours out. So now way are we going to buy them for DD.

Ted27 · 16/10/2020 17:59

isn’t this what they call ‘retro’

Mrsemcgregor · 16/10/2020 17:59

A boyfriend of mine had a bike chain hanging from his jeans pocket Grin

Tell me how the Jeff you managed to accidently stumble into that travesty merchants ?

I am dragged int Urban Outfitters by my 18yo DD but I hug the opposite wall as I go past any shps that lool remotely trendy in case the vacuum that is my dress sense drags me in.

Seeing M&S signage beckon to me is like an oasis in a desert !

Whatsnewpussyhat · 16/10/2020 18:01

Jeez, it looks like the vintage/second hand shops I used to frequent in Liverpool. Just needs a rack of floral tea dresses.

All the fittings look so cheap and bare and the concrete floor is a mess. Is this a 'look' now?

BarbaraofSeville · 16/10/2020 18:01

Lynette

Perhaps if you dig out some old photos of you and DH wearing said clothes, she may change her mind if she thinks she might look like her parents?

raddledoldmisanthropist · 16/10/2020 18:02

Surely those photos are a charity shop?

TheNavigator · 16/10/2020 18:02

The older generation think they look hideous? Job done. Teenagers crave your tutting disapproval.

SweetpeaOrMarigold · 16/10/2020 18:02

So I can finally have a shell suit? My mum will be thrilled.

Mochudubh · 16/10/2020 18:03

@Mollscroll

Yes that is all absolutely horrible. I can see Mark Curry from 80s Blue Peter wearing that godawful shirt. I’m sorry you had to go through this.
A few years ago I saw a (framed) autographed photo of Mark Curry for 25p in a charity shop.
doctorhamster · 16/10/2020 18:03

It's both hilarious and hideous in equal measure

AestheticWitch · 16/10/2020 18:03

I blame Gucci. And Harry Styles.

Wait.. so that ISN'T a charity shop? Shock

Those things in the second picture look like they've been dug out from the back of somebody's wardrobe all crumpled up!

Mrsemcgregor · 16/10/2020 18:08

@raddledoldmisanthropist

I promise it was Urban Outfitters!

@70isaLimitNotaTarget I can tell you the whole woeful story.... I recently got a job, my first in the 8 years since my DS was born! I start on Monday and need comfortable footwear for 10 hour shifts on my feet. I was struggling to find any trainers that didn’t feature metallic strips or rhinestone studs. I was desperate and tired and confused and somehow wandered in against my better judgement. I don’t know why I didn’t just go to Clarks.

OneMillionSteps · 16/10/2020 18:10

Is it a second hand part of the shop? Otherwise why is there only one of each item?

1FootInTheRave · 16/10/2020 18:12

Are you sure you didn't stumble into a hard up charity shop?

TazMac · 16/10/2020 18:12

Oh dear, I’m old. I have looked upon these items as being old fashioned, given that I wore them in my teens. Now I see the trendy young things wearing them. It took me long enough to get my head around high waisted jeans again.

Coniferhedge · 16/10/2020 18:13

Our local hospice has three different branches of charity shop in our town. The nearest one to me specialises in ‘vintage’ clothing. I walked past a couple of weeks ago and they had an exact dress in the window that I used to wear out clubbing in the 80’s. You know you’re getting old when the fashions of your teens and twenties start coming around again!

JaJaDingDong · 16/10/2020 18:13

Trust me, I know. The youth wear this stuff.
