I accidentally went into a trendy shop today...

.... and it was so trendy I didn’t even recognise it as trendy. I got confused and assumed I had temporarily time travelled 25 years in the past when the site of this particular Urban Outfitters was in fact a Banardos.

I was brought back to present time by the helpful 17 yr old who could clearly see I was lost in time and asked me if he could help (escort me to the nearest M&S where I clearly belong).

I hope the photos work.

I’m sure my Dad had that jumper in the 1970s.
Is your name Sam Tyler?

growinggreyer · 16/10/2020 17:13

I hope you loudly proclaimed that you used to have all that stuff "when it was fashionable" that's the only way to cope. Grin

TheMandalorian · 16/10/2020 17:15

Oh gosh. I think you actually may have travelled through a time vortex. Grin

Mrsemcgregor · 16/10/2020 17:17

Grin I can’t imagine a trendy young thing would ever want to wear these clothes? Was it not bad enough the first time round? Have they learnt nothing from our secondary school photos?!

Yes that is all absolutely horrible. I can see Mark Curry from 80s Blue Peter wearing that godawful shirt. I’m sorry you had to go through this.

LadyCatStark · 16/10/2020 17:24

Oh my goodness are those shell suits? 😵

angelcakebananabrain · 16/10/2020 17:25

I went in a trendy shop a couple of years ago and it was all stuff that was around when there was a 70s revival in the 90s, absolutely hideous

Fannybawz · 16/10/2020 17:26

Gads!!!

Mind you I’d be secretly chuffed if shell suits came back in, oh, yes, and high tops and maybe some Manchester baggy...!

BogRollBOGOF · 16/10/2020 17:30

Shit, DH has only just ditched some jumpers like those. They would still fit, but he's not the kind of guy that pulls off ironic Grin

Begonias · 16/10/2020 17:31

Omg!! Shell suits, they were the trend back in 1991 when I was at secondary school. I can't believe they're making a come back.

Mrsemcgregor · 16/10/2020 17:32

It’s not just the naff clothes, it’s the merchandising of them. It honestly looks like a jumble sale rack!

tectonicplates · 16/10/2020 17:32

Shell suits are bad and wrong. They're also flammable.

ImFree2doasiwant · 16/10/2020 17:33

That jumper is surely from the Sweater shop?

Echobelly · 16/10/2020 17:33

Oh, Urban Outfitters is chock full of stuff I would have worn and loved in the 90s - cropped jumpers with suns and moons on them, clumpy boots, beanie hats and the like.

Soubriquet · 16/10/2020 17:35

I hated these the first time they came round Envy

My eyes 😱 Billie Eilish has a lot to answer for.

LynetteScavo · 16/10/2020 17:39

Was this in Birmingham? I was in UO there last weekend. 15yo DD thought it was great. DH and I couldn't get out of there fast enough.

PersephonePromotesEquanimity · 16/10/2020 17:39

In truth they don't look like clothes anyone would buy deliberately - more the sort of thing one acquires by accident and can somehow never get rid of.

TheOrchidKiller · 16/10/2020 17:39

"I can’t imagine a trendy young thing would ever want to wear these clothes?"

You haven't met my 19 year old.
Currently sporting baggy cords (deliberately too big) tied round the waist with a shoe lace, & a heavily-patterned jumper last seen making an appearance in a 1980s branch of Burtons. She does actually look good in them.

We went to a trendy shop yesterday. Full of similar jumpers. They wanted 50 quid a pop! She drew the line there. Said she'd just raid DH's wardrobe again.

LynetteScavo · 16/10/2020 17:40

And the thing is, DH and I don't want to pay for those clothes. We've only just thrown ours out. So now way are we going to buy them for DD.

Mrsemcgregor · 16/10/2020 17:44

I now sympathise with my mother, who undoubtedly cringed hard when I would go out wearing olive coloured bell bottom flares, huge platform boots and sheepskin coats in 1997.

Oblomov20 · 16/10/2020 17:44

This is trendy? I think it's vile.

Elieza · 16/10/2020 17:45

Ooft. Hideous. Even barnyard is wouldnt stock that shite! People are actually expected to pay for it. With money. Good grief.

Although I bought one in 1991..... so perhaps I’m a hypocrite. Wonder if I still have it, probably called Retro now and worth something,..

Elieza · 16/10/2020 17:46

Barnardos. Stupid spellcheck leave me alone damn it.
