Mine, because I finally got around to watching it this weekend, Hamilton is all that great.(though I do have the dadadaaadadaaa chorus from the king’s song in my head)
So come on, those sacred cows of film and tv, why don’t you like them?
Oh yeah, the Beatles. The Kinks were better.

garlictwist · 13/10/2020 05:00

I watched Britain's got talent for the first tile ever at the weekend. It was awful! Why is it so popular?

feistyoneyouare · 13/10/2020 05:50

The Beatles were boring.
Breaking Bad was a mega yawn.
I'd rather spend the evening defrosting the freezer than watching a Bond film.
Most game shows are moronic drivel.
Can't understand all the fuss about bloody Bake-Off.
Oh, and the same goes for Gavin and Stacey. Really don't get the appeal.

Notverybright · 13/10/2020 07:18

Ally McBeal: a character so narcissistic she makes me want to have brunch with Carrie and Ross.

It’s funny that you mention Ally McBeal, that was just as big as friends or SATC at the time but has been largely forgotten. I think a big part of what makes shows ‘iconic’ is endless repeats. I bet the show is very dated if you watch it now though just like Friends and SATC.

Opinion pieces about how this character is problematic or narcissistic are killing tv/film. Entertainment is getting very 1 dimensional, protagonists are perfect and always do and say the right things in all situations and the bad guys are over there being menacing and easily defeat-able.

Eg. Brooklyn 99, I quite enjoy it, but it’s essentially comforting wish fulfilment and not reflective of real life at all. They’ve tried so hard to be inclusive but have come under fire for being ‘copaganda’ and I understand the criticism to be honest.

Downunderduchess · 13/10/2020 07:34

Jack Nicholson just plays himself in films, he’s not some amazing actor.

Also Brad Pitt? I don’t get it... not sexy, usually looks like he needs a bath.

JohnRokesmith · 13/10/2020 07:42

@Nestofvipers

Pulp fiction is a bit shit.

Wonderwall by oasis is a terrible droning song.

Oasis spent their time composing easy-listening tunes with a thin veneer of serious rock. The Mike Flowers Pops rendering of Wonderwall caught the true essence of the song perfectly.
HunterHearstHelmsley · 13/10/2020 07:44

The Great British Bake Off - why? Cannot believe Noel Fielding has associated himself with it.

David Attenborough is not a "national treasure". He enjoys it too much when animals rip each other apart.

Period/costume dramas can get in the bin.

banivani · 13/10/2020 07:44

Most tv series are only good the first series/season. The exception is those that find their feet the first series and the second one is the best. Esp true with comedy. All characters become caricatures after series one.

SNL is overrated.

Mbear · 13/10/2020 07:50

@SoPanny

Amy Schumer isn’t funny.
When I watch her I feel like I’m being yelled at about how FUNNY AND CLEVER AND FUNNY AND SMART AND NORMAL AND REAL she is.
Blerg · 13/10/2020 07:55

Musicals as a genre make me cringe. Especially disliked Mama Mia. I haven’t seen it but I read the plot of Cats the other day and it seemed batshit. I think I just don’t like songs threaded together with a flimsy narrative.

Longdistance · 13/10/2020 08:03

I can’t stand the likes of The Sound of Music, Chitty Shitty bang bang. Just awful and twee.
Can’t stand Mrs Brown’s boys, but I hear it’s not popular amongst lots of people. Not funny at all, unless you’re Irish. Doesn’t match up to Father Ted.
Got to agree about Breaking Bad. It was far too long and tedious and got dragged out. The first three episodes were brilliant, how they showed their lives. After that it just went on with no real story to it. It just bored me.

lazylinguist · 13/10/2020 08:03

Oh yes, and Mad Men. Really wanted to like it, but couldn't get into it at all. Boring.

Whoever said upthread that Firefly deserved to be cancelled though. Shock

ihatethecold · 13/10/2020 08:26

Mamma Mia 2 was complete drivel.

Cannot stand Mrs Browns boys. Who on earth watches this shite.

Nirvana were terrible. Droning depressed drivel.

I cannot stand Reggae music. I love all genres of music but have to move away if someone plays reggae.

The woman in black theatre production was the worst thing I’ve ever sat through in my life.

TheId · 13/10/2020 08:35

GoT Rapey Dragon shite I call it.

AriesTheRam · 13/10/2020 09:13

@Downunderduchess watch Brad Pitt in Thelma and Louise and then tell us he's not sexy .Total god.

AriesTheRam · 13/10/2020 09:20

Rebel Wilson isn't funny and she unfortunately looks like a Little Britain character

Carpathian2 · 13/10/2020 09:30

Bruce Springsteen and Eric claptout. I just can see where the love for theses comes from.
Amanda Holden. Why?

IrmaFayLear · 13/10/2020 09:36

I loved Breaking Bad. But then I love loooooong series where the writing and characters are great. Sometimes you have to get invested in a programme and not watch with half an eye whilst on a device.

I would say that 99% of all comedy is not funny. Who, just who , laughs at those BBC radio comedies on at 6.30? They must be paying Gary Lineker sums to the live audience to persuade them to stay awake, let alone make any kind of appreciate noise.

MrsMariaReynolds · 13/10/2020 09:47

Christmas time favourites and beloved "classics"

The Snowman. Just, why?!?!? It's.so.boring.

It's A Wonderful Life is dubbed in my house as "Christmas Downer"

And don't get me started on The Railway Children.

Fizbosshoes · 13/10/2020 09:50

I'm not a fan of Chris Packham and think he can come across as a bit lecturing and superior.

PolaDeVeboise · 13/10/2020 10:06

Monty Python is not funny. Just smug, patronising posh boys amusing themselves.

Cam2020 · 13/10/2020 10:17

Friends is utter drivel

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 13/10/2020 10:28

Frank Sinatra was an averagely-good singer and an extremely unpleasant man.

Goose365 · 13/10/2020 10:38

I don’t get Ed Sheeran. I mean I can see that he’s talented as a musician and although not my cup of tea, he’s not a bad song writer. I just can’t see why he’s such a massive star compared to so many other very similar singer-song writers. I don’t see what makes him better.

unmarkedbythat · 13/10/2020 10:39

Most musicals are utter shite

SATC has no redeeming features

Mary Berry isn't all that

Life was actually better with 4 (5 when your dad could waggle the aerial right) TV channels and less endless bloody choice

Glastonbury is not even close to being the best festival

Alan Carr is not funny

The book is almost always better than the film

It is not worth forcing yourself to read Dickens or Hardy

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 13/10/2020 10:42

Monty Python is not funny. Just smug, patronising posh boys amusing themselves.

You only think that because you aren't intelligent and educated enough to understand just how hilarious it actually is. In the same way that, if you don't recognise a banana gaffer taped to a wall as the very pinnacle of artistic brilliance, it's because you're just not smart enough to 'get' art.... Grin

I completely agree with you: they had the odd good sketch, but their miss-rate was sky high. I detest 'Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life' an can't stop myself silently cringeing when it comes on at a funeral. See also 'My Way' (as per my previous comment).

If we're honest, most people only really like it because it contains a rude word (unless it's the bowdlerised version, in which case they just drown it out anyway), which will be shouted by everybody singing along at the top of their voices and grinning like 3yos who've just discovered the word 'poo'; the same as when that Chubby Brown version of 'Living Next Door To Alice' comes on.
