Seems to have shut up shop as from this morning.

@SunbathingDragon

How do you know they ever left?

I'm sure a lot of people posted on both sites - and nothing to say people can't, obviously!

But the hypocrisy of some of them posting on MC to slag off MN, and then coming back to MN to try and recruit people for there was astounding.

Port1aCastis · 14/10/2020 11:36

I actually though my post stating that MNHQ were not hosting any more H&M threads didn't have any evidence and could be misconstrued as incorrect so I asked MNHQ to confirm..

Samcro · 14/10/2020 11:49

its very good news and will hopefully give mn hq a break.

BIWI · 14/10/2020 11:50

That's really good to hear @HebeMumsnet, and not before time.

TheSeedsOfADream · 14/10/2020 11:59

Hopefully give the victims of the abuse a break as well.
Let the racist scum take their filth elsewhere.

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 14/10/2020 12:04

Thank you @HebeMumsnet. That is very, very good news.

Roussette · 14/10/2020 12:09

Thank you Hebe good to hear.

But we now have to move away from this divisive subject. Never are all sides going to agree, never ever. There is no point trying. I did one thread that was reasonable discussion and doing well, but then it just descended into chaos. So I think there will never be a reasonable thread on H&M. Unless there is just one opinion on there.
It would be nice to think there could be some sort of royal thread without H&M getting dragged into it, but somehow I doubt it, because here we are on this thread, completely unrelated to the RF, talking about H&M!

BoreOfWhabylon · 14/10/2020 12:10

Indeed.

Thanks HebeMumsnet.

@BIWI

Sorry *@SunbathingDragon*, quoting you like that wasn't intended to be having a go at you - simply because I couldn't quote your whole post, as it contained in itself a quote - and you can't quote posts with quotes embedded in them.

I picked the bit that I felt was important about MC; it wasn't intended to be a personal criticism.

I didn’t realise you couldn’t quote like that. Thanks for explaining and I’m glad it was meant as you have explained.
Hernameisdeborah · 14/10/2020 12:21

There were some threads on MC where people were generally civil and kind. I think I would have enjoyed the Flight Tracker thread! There may have been a few decent people there but if the threads listed earlier had been typical of MC, I might have stayed longer than a week.

But the Justine and Mumsnet thread, which I believe was the site's most popular thread, was absolutely horrible, really spiteful. It might be just one thread but it was its longest-running, most active and therefore set the tone of the site, especially
as it was tolerated for much too long by admin and celebrated by its most prolific posters. There were so many claims of "I love how nice this site is and we can disagree politely" but those statements were contradicted on a daily basis by spiteful 'types' who would have a good old spy on MN, find a poster whose views didn't sit with theirs and copy and paste them, ridicule them and call them every name under the sun. I have screenshots of the posts on the Justine thread from mid September (some disgusting racism and abuse from around page 400 if you want to see for yourself... be warned it's ugly as hell) , when the black mumsnetter board was being set up. The names the poster behind the black mumsnetter board was called were disgraceful and I'm not surprised she reported them to police. Jokes about attacking her, doxxing, trolling her board with stupid made up names... all this was on the site's most popular thread. Sorry, however nice other threads may have been, a site which tolerated such nastiness for so long was never going to be accepted by a large audience, grow and be recognised as a 'nice' version of Mumsnet whatever MC members tell themselves.

BoreOfWhabylon · 14/10/2020 12:38

@Hernameisdeborah I'd be interested in those screenshots, if you could PM them to me please. I'm reporting anyone I suspect of being behind the trolling who tries to slither back here but I know many of the worst offenders had set up multiple accounts.

Roussette · 14/10/2020 12:40

Hernameisdeborah

Yes. And what a bloody shame the Admin there didn't properly sort out moderators for that place. You can't just set up a forum and walk away leaving everyone to it.

If she had zapped the JustineMN thread straightaway and moderated the H&M thread, it could well have survived. To have a forum whose busiest thread was slagging off another forum was ridiculous.

I've been a mod before and I know what hard work it is, it's a thankless task, but they're needed!

Port1aCastis · 14/10/2020 12:42

Jeez and these people are more than likely Mother's, who gave them the right to be so disgusting to a poster so she/he had to inform the police. Despicable behaviour shame on you!

GetOffYourHighHorse · 14/10/2020 13:24

'Yes. And what a bloody shame the Admin there didn't properly sort out moderators for that place. You can't just set up a forum and walk away leaving everyone to it.'

Yes the admin did seem clueless. Mind some places are like that, daren't speak up when they clearly have posters targeting and harassing others. That's why I like mnhq they just don't tolerate any crap. (although as an aside I think a banket ban on mentioning H&M would seem a bit extreme..)

BIWI · 14/10/2020 13:29

I wonder if any of them regret what they posted now? I can kind of see how people get caught up in the moment, and judgment goes awry. But in the cold light of day, do they regret it or would they stand by all the horrible, personal insults that they posted?

BarleylemonPenguin · 14/10/2020 13:32

When you say ‘discussion’ you mean an opportunity to slag the royal family off in every possible way

Well, no. What I want is an opportunity to get my own throughts straight, with the help of intelligent discussion, about whether the RF are 'worth it' or not, given that my taxes pay for them because no-one at home is interested

And those who "Liked" a post that contained horrible personal insults.
Andante57 · 14/10/2020 13:55

Your thoughts on the Royal Family seem quite clear and I can’t see you being persuaded otherwise anytime soon.
However you obviously get pleasure from slagging them off so I can see why you enjoy ‘discussions’ about them.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 14/10/2020 13:55

Good call re. the H&M threads HQ.

Janegrey333 · 14/10/2020 13:58

There was a lot of Liking and Big grin emojis being used, I can see. That seems to have ramped up the herd instinct. Glad that is not used here.

I use emojis on WhatsApp and messaging and I don’t think they encourage a herd mentality. Anyway you can use emojis on here . The edit function is really useful though. You would not have had to post again just to amend one word Janegrey.

artisticpiles · 14/10/2020 14:11

@Agogastwoagogthingsgogging

Isn’t it a bit cheeky for some posters, not all of them of course, to have spent some time complaining about and laughing at MN and its posters and how superior their new site is, and spamming the MN boards with links and sending PMs about joining to members, which are the lifeblood of the site at the end of the day, only to start chatting here again when the new site closes down? It’s a bit like standing outside a coffee shop offering everyone your flask instead, and then going in for a free drink and to use the toilets at the same time!
I think that quite a lot of posters were regulars on both sites at the same time. I've been on Mumsnet for around ten years, and I posted over there too. The notion that people on MC were there for nefarious reasons after being banned on here for racism is completely false, and would be laughable if it wasn't such a serious and unfounded allegation.

People can and do shop at two supermarkets at the same time. Sometimes they switch from one to the other and back again. I once had occasion to rant to Morrisons head office, yet I still shopped there because it was convenient.

One thing you won't find me doing is posting on H&M threads, because I really couldn't care less about them if I tried.

Roussette · 14/10/2020 14:21

I get what you're saying artisticpiles but there were PBPs from here over there. I have just seen pages of posts from there telling everyone how to get round the ban by doing it on 4G on your mobile, using a VPN, opening up on a new browser etc.

And we all know about the PBP who boasted about having 10 or was it 20 bans from here.

So you can't say there weren't PBPs from here over there. There were. Why they were banned is another matter.
We have to accept that this happened so that we can move on from it.

artisticpiles · 14/10/2020 14:30

I do agree with you @Roussette (and other pps upthread) that we need to move on.
