What is your favourite television theme music, whether British or foreign ?

Mine is (Jam For) World In Action. A very powerful and thought-provoking piece that suited the nature of the programme perfectly.

I quite liked Barnacle Bill from Blue Peter before the Mike Oldfield arrangement displaced it. A pleasant, jolly hockey sticks kind of number.

It shows how little TV I watch now coz I don't know a lot of these. I remember The Littlest Hobo but I never watched it.

The original Pebble Mill At One theme, aka As You Please by Raymond LeFevre, is a classic. I have the vinyl single somewhere.

For the sort of dramatic music that gets you so hyped up that you start doing modern interpretative dance with the sheer excitement of a new episode I’d go for The Sopranos or Game of Thrones. But I’ve recently been reminded of the awesomeness of the Are You Being Served theme tune so I’d definitely vote for that in its own category.

Line of Duty also scores highly in the interpretative dance of anticipation stakes.

Wild track

WildRosie · 30/09/2020 20:31

White Horses and Black Beauty always seem to make these lists. Must be an equine thing. Some of the American police drama themes are memorable, especially Cagney and Lacey and Hill Street Blues. The second Starsky and Hutch theme by Tom Scott is a funky monster.

Angela, the theme from Taxi, is so laid back and sophisticated.
