What is your favourite television theme music, whether British or foreign ?

Mine is (Jam For) World In Action. A very powerful and thought-provoking piece that suited the nature of the programme perfectly.

I quite liked Barnacle Bill from Blue Peter before the Mike Oldfield arrangement displaced it. A pleasant, jolly hockey sticks kind of number.

Love so many of the ones mentioned already. I've just started watching the Detectorists and that is definitely my new favourite. I also like Anne with an E.

The original "Van der Valk" - "Eye Level" : combined with the scenes of Amsterdam. Actually made me visit Amsterdam several times. I live in Australia

Makes me feel tearful ! - very evocative
I bought the CD but somehow wasn't quite the same.

The theme from Succession - cheerful but somehow sinister at the same time. Brilliantly suitable for the series.

Not technically a theme but the music used at the start of episode 1 of the Icelandic drama Trapped (Vor í Vaglaskógi by Kaleo)

Also the theme to the Swedish "Sandhamn Murders" (like Midsomer murders at sea)

Dr Who (the electronic one made in the 60s)

As others have said, White Horses and Robinson Crusoe from my childhood.

More recently The Bridge and Queens Gambit. I also love the theme to Mrs America - a 1976 disco version of Beethoven's 5th Symphony.

This is reminding me how great the music was on all of those European childrens' drama shows that the BBC used to show dubbed into English during childrens' hour

I've always loved the theme tune to Angel, probably because I played the cello for many years and feel its beauty is underrated

More recently, the Succession theme is excellent. I usually hit the "skip intro" button when I'm binge watching a show but I was happy to let that one play.
