Asking for a handhold - DH in ICU

peachgreen · 04/09/2020 10:56

DH was taken into hospital last night with breathing difficulties. It was pretty minor, the paramedics weren't even going to take him in but we insisted. He's now in an induced coma on a ventilator. He's had 2 negative Covid tests so they don't think it's that but they don't know what it is.

I'm falling apart. He's my whole life. We have a 2 year old who is a complete Daddy's girl. I need him so much. I can't even be with him now because of COVID.

Hand hold here too. The healthcare professionals will be doing the very best they can. Life has twists & turns. Just keep positive for you & DD. Sending you hugs and positive thoughts.

BooseysMom · 04/09/2020 19:02

Medications are a big help, they do wonders.

This is so true. My DF had a massive heart attack at 60. He's on all sorts of meds. At 83 he's driving me mad but I love him!!

Here's another hand hold .. i'm praying for him too Flowers

InFiveMins · 04/09/2020 19:05

Hi Peach. Giving your hand a huge squeeze and I am praying for him. Come back and talk whenever you like. He is in the best hands.

Make sure you drink and eat, and do your best to sleep tonight (you will be exhausted). As a PP says, that is an order.

Wonkydonkey44 · 04/09/2020 19:11

Thinking of you Flowers

mbosnz · 04/09/2020 19:14

Thinking of you, hoping for you, and with you. I cannot imagine the agonies of worry and fear you must be in.

As PP's say, make sure you eat and stay hydrated. And rest.

Kia kaha (keep strong).

So sorry to hear your update. Have they told you at what stage his heart failure may be? Although not curable, many patients live a great quality of life for quite a while--with the right support.

ArabellaScott · 04/09/2020 19:20

Sending you strength and best wishes, OP.

My best advice: If you can't sleep, rest. Resting helps, too.

SubordinateThatClause · 04/09/2020 19:41

So many positive stories here - I hope they give you some hope. Don't forget to take care of you - eat, drink (not booze!) and rest when you can. We're all behind you and DH.

Squiffany · 04/09/2020 19:49

Do the Drs have a treatment plan for him yet?

Make sure you look after yourself OP and accept any offers of help. Your DH May be an inpatient for a little while yet.

Marmunia1975 · 04/09/2020 19:50

Thinking of you at such a worrying time. 💐

SunInTheSkyYouKnowHowIFeel · 04/09/2020 20:01

Sounds awful Op, but sounds like you are doing your best for your little girl, I hope you get some good news soon.
One thing that might help is keeping a diary, in the short term it is a place to order your thoughts & process what is going on around you, but later you could use it to refer back to to see how far your hisband has progressed (hopefully) or to remember bits you've forgotten. It might also help your husband fill in the blanks as he's not going to have much recollection of this time.
Hope things improve for you all soon

HairyFloppins · 04/09/2020 20:01
