Asking for a handhold - DH in ICU

peachgreen · 04/09/2020 10:56

DH was taken into hospital last night with breathing difficulties. It was pretty minor, the paramedics weren't even going to take him in but we insisted. He's now in an induced coma on a ventilator. He's had 2 negative Covid tests so they don't think it's that but they don't know what it is.

I'm falling apart. He's my whole life. We have a 2 year old who is a complete Daddy's girl. I need him so much. I can't even be with him now because of COVID.

Thanks so much everyone. @SunshineCake I honestly don't know how I'm going to live with the anxiety but I guess I just will! It's horrible knowing he's at higher risk of sudden cardiac death.

@Marmunia1975 yes it's about 35 minutes away. I'm absolutely exhausted if I'm honest but I love seeing him so much I would never miss it.

Ask all the questions you need to, start a notebook for the answers too, and then you only need to worry about actual things. Sometimes if we don't know all the info we worry about things we don't need to.

petalpower · 25/09/2020 11:38

How are you getting on @peachgreen and how is your husband?

peachgreen · 25/09/2020 13:01

He's doing really well thank you @petalpower. Still no idea of long term prognosis but he is stable and providing he stays that way he can come home early next week!

Actually did laugh out loud at this.

My fringe is the bane of my life so maybe it was playing on my mind but we all know it was the iPads fault.

IdkickJilliansass · 25/09/2020 16:52

You brave things 💕💕💕

2018SoFarSoGreat · 25/09/2020 18:34

What marvelous news! Really happy to hear this.

My autocorrect tried to change happy to hair. Appropriate since we are all crossing our fringes 😁

KeziaOAP · 25/09/2020 20:22

So pleased to hear news that DH may be allowed home next week, DD will be so happy to see him Flowers

forgetthehousework · 25/09/2020 20:28

So glad the news is good.

peachgreen · 25/09/2020 21:22

Oh dear. I spoke too soon. His cardiologist gave him three conditions for being able to go him early next week - no funny rhythms, no low blood pressure and no breathlessness and he's had all three today in spades. Sad

Please keep your fringes crossed for a better day tomorrow...

Not sure what a crossed fringe emoji would look like... ➿ maybe?!

DH was discharged from hospital a few years ago, too soon. It was a ballache to get him readmitted a few days later A and E for a couple of hours with him rolling in agony a nurse gave him morphine which did not touch it. When we eventually got him a bed the nurses said we should have phoned the ward directly and gone straight up.

So if they want to keep him in @peachgreen it may be for the best.

peachgreen · 26/09/2020 19:18

Thanks so much everyone. He's had another bad day blood pressure and heart rate wise. The doctor still seemed happy to discharge him when he saw him this morning but we'll see what tomorrow brings. I'm just a bit stressed that he's being discharged before he's really settled on the meds and I'm so frightened something awful will happen when he's home. I'm simultaneously desperate to have him home and also terrified about it.

OP posts:
SunshineCake · 26/09/2020 20:50

I think that is normal to be feeling like that. If you aren't sure he is ready to be discharged then talk to the doctors about your worries.
