HELP!! What have we done??? Pic attached

DH and I live in military housing and had the bright idea that painting our hallway would be a great idea!

There was some good logic behind it. We moved in when it was newly built in 2017 and the walls just had a matt white base coat on them. With two young kids, the walls have become, let’s just say, less white!

We bought some matt but wipeable sage green paint but it looks awful now it’s done. This pic doesn’t show the severity but it’s much darker than we hoped/expected. We have some things to put on the walls which might help but I’m really upset about it. I think it doesn’t help that every other wall in the house is plain white 😩

DH would definitely throttle me if I say I want to change the colour so that’s not an option.

Any ideas on how I can improve this?

Mirrors for extra light?

Decorate more rooms so the contrast isn't so strong?

Extra lamp or two and maybe change the bulb to a brighter hue?

Yankathebear · 04/09/2020 00:02

I like it!

0blio · 04/09/2020 00:03

It looks lovely and very neatly done.
The pictures in white frames will brighten it up - what about a mirror too?

Badtasteflump · 04/09/2020 00:04

Honestly, I like it! Maybe give it some time for you to get used to it, but also if you have any big mirrors I would put them up on the big expanse of wall on the left of the pic - or even some smaller mirrors grouped together. Mirrors make a huge difference to the light in a room.

Enough4me · 04/09/2020 00:05

I agree it looks really dark. I think you will just have to repaint it.

AlwaysLatte · 04/09/2020 00:05

I think it's really nice. Just a shock to you as you're used to white. Ditto the mirrors/pictures. Maybe a plant or two or flowers?

TheoriginalLEM · 04/09/2020 00:05

Its the colour of my living room, its been this colour a while and i think we due a change.

I think the issues are the doors actually. Can you put a curtain over the window in the door?

Some pictures on the walls will help.

SquirtleSquad · 04/09/2020 00:06

Honestly I quite like it, maybe add a plant and a mirror plus photos.

Are you okay?

AlwaysLatte · 04/09/2020 00:06

Could you move the piano somewhere else and put a hall table with a lovely lamp instead?

stophuggingme · 04/09/2020 00:08

It looks a bit municipal
Why would he go mad if you repainted it ?
It doesn’t go with the carpet either

CarrieMoonbeams · 04/09/2020 00:10

I like it, personally, sorry you don't though! I once painted my hallway a weird sort of purple colour (it looked more like a soft lavender shade on the tin) and I hated it even as I was applying the paint, but I was too stubborn to admit to DH that I'd made a mistake! 🙄

Put the pictures up, add a white framed mirror if you've got space, and it'll look much better. I basically covered about 90% of the walls in pictures 😂

84claire84 · 04/09/2020 00:11

I 💖 it

FizzyPink · 04/09/2020 00:11

I think it’s the carpet that doesn’t help but I quite like the wall colour. Give yourself a few days to get used to it before you do anything drastic. We did one wall and our hallway a very dark blue during lockdown and I did freak out initially but now love it

QuietThyme · 04/09/2020 00:14

We have a picture ledge that will go on top of the piano with the 4 white pictures in that are on the piano. I have a lovely hexagonal Oliver bonas mirror which will go on the wall to the right of the door. We also have this plant in the corner...

My goodness not pleasant. Choose another colour and repaint.

Jakadaal · 04/09/2020 00:15

I like it! The white frame pictures will help as will a mirror. Possibly also a carpet runner or rug to tie the walls and carpet together

QuietThyme · 04/09/2020 00:15

Yes, I think the carpets a problem. Would a white runner type rug help?

boydoggies · 04/09/2020 00:15

Like the plant and stand though!

QuietThyme · 04/09/2020 00:16

Cross post @jackadaal 😆

I like it too. Some pictures/art/mirrors/anything on the walls along with plants will be lovely.

newnameforthis123 · 04/09/2020 00:18

This isn't helpful at all but where is the plantpot and stand from?!

I'm loving Feather & Nest's plant range at the moment, they have Green & Wild as a plan range. Looks like theirs so wondered if it is!

LadyMinerva · 04/09/2020 00:19

I too was going to suggest a long hallway runner, but not white. Something colourful so that the walls aren't the first thing your eyes are drawn to, rather they blend in.

But I do like the colour of the walls.

Jakadaal · 04/09/2020 00:19

The other option would be to repaint the door wall a contrasting colour.

Personally for me a carpet runner or rug would solve it

Colour bot exact match but something similar?

babycakes1010 · 04/09/2020 00:20

I like it Blush

Belle1983 · 04/09/2020 00:20

I think it looks really nice in the picture.
Could you put all your pictures etc up and then reassess?
It may just be a shock.
Having lived in quarters with god awful carpets of a variety if colours throughout and magnolia walls, any colour seemed a shock af first.

Worst case you paint it again, but it might grow on you.
