HELP!! What have we done??? Pic attached

DH and I live in military housing and had the bright idea that painting our hallway would be a great idea!

There was some good logic behind it. We moved in when it was newly built in 2017 and the walls just had a matt white base coat on them. With two young kids, the walls have become, let’s just say, less white!

We bought some matt but wipeable sage green paint but it looks awful now it’s done. This pic doesn’t show the severity but it’s much darker than we hoped/expected. We have some things to put on the walls which might help but I’m really upset about it. I think it doesn’t help that every other wall in the house is plain white 😩

DH would definitely throttle me if I say I want to change the colour so that’s not an option.

Any ideas on how I can improve this?

I like it but it needs a few warm, interesting sconces, a rug, and a beautiful bold, curtain hanging on the front door. Think Nina Campbell etc - ebay is your friend for this. A brass curtain rod would bring in some warmth.
Obviously some pictures/paintings/mirrors on the walls. I like the idea of the white in the space but it does not seem big enough or bright enough tobe only that iyswim. But don't be disheartened - it is lovely.

@QuietThyme Hi. Just a quick note to say that after about a week, the shade that you've painted it will become lighter, once the paint has completely dried. Just wait.

Mummyoflittledragon · 04/09/2020 04:46

Of course painting is an option. It won’t take any time and a tin of paint is far cheaper than 101 accessories. If you want a colour, repaint it in something like dulux cornflower white. It’s a subtle blue hue, which will compliment the dark piano.

It's nice! I don't see the issue. I love that green.

daisypond · 04/09/2020 05:55

I like it. The colour is nice. You just need to hang pictures, mirrors on the walls.

tara66 · 04/09/2020 05:57

Put up a few large poster pictures on the walls like the old railway journey/holiday posters - if you know what I mean.

mathanxiety · 04/09/2020 06:00

I love it. The colour will settle down in a few days.

I agree not to get a white runner. That would turn into a greyish brown runner very quickly. The brightly coloured Turkish style runner suggested by a PP would be great.

Maybe go with lots of pictures, a big mirror or two on the walls, and the curtain idea for the door is great too.

LittleBearPad · 04/09/2020 06:07

I think it looks lovely

WhatInFreshHell · 04/09/2020 06:12

I think it's gorgeous!

mrbob · 04/09/2020 06:13

I really like it!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 04/09/2020 06:16

It's really nice. Give the paint a few days to dry properly and it will look quite different.

Pictures and a mirror would looke good an yes, if you could get a pale green/white runner that would lift it too!

But it looks really well painted, hats off to whoever did it!

CheesyCheshireCat · 04/09/2020 06:18

I love it! I have just redone my kitchen in sage walls, black and white tiles, and floor. It's bold but fab. I always feel aaagh, what have I done until there are pictures/mirrors etc to break up the colour.

I suggest pictures with black frames, a bold rug/runner, ideally lose the carpet!

saleorbouy · 04/09/2020 06:24

Add in some features and accessories (picture frames, mirror surround etc.)in a darker colour, black , dark green. This would provide a darker contrast colour and make to walls seem lighter.
Any significant change takes a while to get accustomed to so don't panic yet!

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 04/09/2020 06:35

I dont dislike it. That large bare wall just needs some lovely bright pictures and mirrors thats all.

Cooloncraze · 04/09/2020 06:38

I think it will look amazing. For styling ideas type #sagegreen into Instagram and you’ll get loads of ideas.
A bright or neutral Berber runner on the carpet will sort the floor.
Plants. Lots of plants. Hanging and on shelves or side tables? A mirror? A wicker pendant light shade? Small lamps on side tables.
Thank about how you hang your pictures- in groups of 4?
Avoid using the overhead light if possible. It’s unforgiving for any paint colour - use side lamps if you can- they cast a much softer glow in a space.

I think it’s a good choice but will take a while to get used to. Smile

LostFrog · 04/09/2020 06:40

I like it as well. What paint is it?

Whenwillthisbeover · 04/09/2020 06:46

I like it too, a lot. Personally I think the beige carpet is the issue, it’s not great either green.

I really like the hall rug runner above, I think something like that will go really well, and hide the beige carpet.

The sage green is great!

Reastie · 04/09/2020 06:47

I like it too! Mirrors and white framed things on the wall will help. Maybe when you see it in the morning with natural light it’ll look different.

sashh · 04/09/2020 06:48

I'd add a wall decal in white on one wall.

My DF once painted the ( skin shreddingly sharp) anaglypta walls in the downstairs loo with shocking pink gloss paint .” to cheer the place up!”
From the fuss OP was making I was expecting something at least that b

I'm a big fan 👍🏻

BillywilliamV · 04/09/2020 06:54

bad,

BBCONEANDTWO · 04/09/2020 07:02

I remember we painted a feature wall dark brown and I got the shock o my life when I first saw it. I ended up loving it. I personally think that the sage green is beautiful (even though from what you're saying it may be darker than the picture). Everyone has white everywhere and it's boring as heck.

You'll be the envy of the rest of the base and I bet everyone will start cheering their houses up.

Blondebakingmumma · 04/09/2020 07:09

I really like it

BrummyMum1 · 04/09/2020 07:12

I like it but it doesn’t look nice with the dark piano. If you can cover the piano with something and avoid other dark wooden/ black accessories that would be better. Would look nice with a light oak shelf and pale runner and pale picture frames.
