HELP!! What have we done??? Pic attached

DH and I live in military housing and had the bright idea that painting our hallway would be a great idea!

There was some good logic behind it. We moved in when it was newly built in 2017 and the walls just had a matt white base coat on them. With two young kids, the walls have become, let’s just say, less white!

We bought some matt but wipeable sage green paint but it looks awful now it’s done. This pic doesn’t show the severity but it’s much darker than we hoped/expected. We have some things to put on the walls which might help but I’m really upset about it. I think it doesn’t help that every other wall in the house is plain white 😩

DH would definitely throttle me if I say I want to change the colour so that’s not an option.

Any ideas on how I can improve this?

I'm another one who likes it. It's probably a shock as you've just done it.

Lapw1ng · 05/09/2020 19:53

Looks lovely to me. A world away from the quarters I grew up with in the 70s- forces orange nylon sofas and painting walls forbidden.😳

Pliudev · 05/09/2020 19:57

You'll get used to it. I cried when I came home and saw a shed my builder had put up in the garden. I hardly notice it now. Put some colourful prints (in white frames) on the wall and a nice runner over that boring carpet. Job done.

Better cosier lighting and it'll be fine!

Gormless · 05/09/2020 20:04

I love it!

Treesandsky · 05/09/2020 20:05

I don't think it looks as bad as you think. It looks nice and cozy to me. I've no idea if this would be an option, but if you were to pull up the carpet just in the hallway and put some decent oak effect laminate down I think it would look stunning (and maybe a bit more practical too).

Treesandsky · 05/09/2020 20:08

Actually, ignore that. I've just seen all the pictures on your other post and it looks really nice. Don't change it!

Happyher · 05/09/2020 20:09

I love that colour- it’s so calming. Mirrors and lights carefully placed will brighten in up the light you’ve got only light the bit underneath. Get a chandelier and some little table lamps that you could put on during the day when dull

Ilovegardens · 05/09/2020 20:19

Get a nice white radiator cover and put some plants on top. A few pictures on jaunty angles to each other and a nice rattan/ wood lamp shade on your ceiling light and it will look like home.

Disco ball Wink

Catiopea · 05/09/2020 20:37

I like it too Blush and would just add a big mirror & a some plants on high shelving because thats similar to my current redecorating plans

But paint is like haircuts, might seem like a disaster, might cost in time/money to fix but ultimately its just paint/hair 🤷🏽‍♀️

FunorFitness · 05/09/2020 20:53

I love the colour and it looks great on your updated pics. A runner and white radiatior cover would complete the look perfectly.

Cloudspotter · 05/09/2020 21:09

We did exactly this. Painted a dull hallway a kind of sage grey/green. I've hated it ever since to be honest. It looks even duller and dark. Seeing this has inspired me to change it.

I feel I've lived with it long enough 😂

Lindyloomillion1 · 05/09/2020 21:34

I painted the narrow hall in my first flat a similar shade. I hated it from the first moment and painted it white within days

PickAChew · 05/09/2020 21:38

It's a lovely colour but a bit shiny. The single ceiling light isn't the most flattering.

Olives49 · 05/09/2020 23:00

You need some bright bits and bob in there! Bright reds. I actually like that green but it needs uplifting. Not that bad at all.

MadMadaMim · 06/09/2020 08:24

Agree with other posters.

Walls are gorgeous. It's the carpet that needs changing.

dudsville · 06/09/2020 08:34

Very pretty walls op.

LovelyIssues · 06/09/2020 09:12

I think it's fine, get better lighting and a mirror up or if you really can't stand it paint back over it Hmm

DilyteGelyte · 06/09/2020 10:34

Large mirror and few pictures in white frames will liven the place. Id say keep as is and repaint again in a year or two when you're bored. Id say don't put white runner, pick something bright and lively, bright yellow, orange, greens will look great. Go on Pinterest and look for cool green hallway interior ideas and you'll be blown away with some great options.

Foundation · 06/09/2020 11:12

I like it! Just needs some pictures/mirrors etc and it will look great!

Useruseruserusee · 06/09/2020 11:16

I really like it!

juneo63 · 06/09/2020 11:54

I think it looks good 😁 put some a big mirror up it will help and extra lights/lamp if possible, iSmile

Catawaul · 06/09/2020 12:54

I love it! Really like green, it's calming and natural.

StoneofDestiny · 07/09/2020 15:42

It's nice!
Get some nice light oak framed pics on the wall and a nice bright ceiling light.
