I'm divorcing DH soon and hoping to just change my name to something I like. I've been saddled with his since the age of 18 Smile

What's your favourite surname? I think I might go with 'Knight'

OP posts:
HowFastIsTooFast · 23/08/2020 13:15

I've met a couple of people with the surname 'Love' and been v jealous.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 23/08/2020 13:15

Golightly is my favourite. I like the idea of you going through life just brushing against things.

I also like Darling, like in Peter Pan, although I think you'd have to be sweet and smiley all the time!

Fitz does sound good, but the original "illegitimate son of..." meaning might put sone people off.

VestaTilly · 23/08/2020 13:17

I’ve always rather fancied being a Plantagenet

SandyGin · 23/08/2020 13:18

Knight sounds too 'male' for me, considering you are freeing yourself from your DH. I would go for something that sounds more female or neutral - your happiness, empowerment, freedom name. What would that be, OP?

StarsOnAMat · 23/08/2020 13:22

I worked with men who had the surnames Florence and Honeyman.

Redraptor · 23/08/2020 13:23

Fox, Bond and Wilde are my favourites

SansaClegane · 23/08/2020 13:23

I've always loved beautiful nouns as surnames, like "Gold" or "Love".
Although reading this thread, a fancy literature-related name would also be nice!

SandyGin · 23/08/2020 13:24

PS I do know a Strong, a Freedom, a Power, a Winner, a Merry and a Merryweather if any of those might suit?!

Sunny345H · 23/08/2020 13:25

Once met someone with the surname Smiles. Wish it was my own.

ProperVexed · 23/08/2020 13:25

PickAChew · 23/08/2020 13:30

Musmerian · 23/08/2020 13:34

@DerbyshireGirly

Valentine is lovely
This! I gave my sims 4 character this surname Grin
StCharlotte · 23/08/2020 13:35

@bumblenbean

For some reason I think Clutterbuck is awesome. Although it does sound a little like cluster-fuck Grin

A school friend’s surname was Peace which I always thought was cool

I told DH if his name was Clutterbuck, I wouldn't have taken it. I've since worked with a Mrs Clutterbuck and I know someone else who changed their name to Clutterbuck by deed poll!

No idea why such a random name has played such a big part in my life.

My own choice would be Kilgarriff or Kennedy both of which would go very nicely with my first name.

ChunkyKnit · 23/08/2020 13:38

Desbonnet (the s is silent)
Darling
Arnett
Hudson
Lawless
McArdle

LouisBalfour · 23/08/2020 13:39

My head of house at school was Mrs Montgomery - I always though that was a great name.

I rather love my own surname, which I couldn’t wait to take on marriage after a really hideous maiden name.

Sallyspoons · 23/08/2020 13:41

I knew a lady with the surname “Dainty“ loved that ( although she was very dainty so it suited her)

PushyMeez · 23/08/2020 13:42

Crawford
Sullivan
King
Fox
Taylor
Kennedy

I do like Knight but prefer Knightley 😊

LadyLovelyLockz · 23/08/2020 13:42

I was engaged to an Atkinson once. Great surname.

I also worked with a Freckleton, which is excellent! I love Cavendish as well.

I think it depends on how many syllables your first name has - mine has 1, so a longer surname sounds much better. A one syllable surname, not so much.

FlamingoAndJohn · 23/08/2020 13:43

I know a L’strange.
That’s a great name.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 23/08/2020 13:43

My favourite has always been Fox, and I'm really surprised that it's been mentioned four (I think) times on here already. I know someone with the surname Chicken, which always makes me smile in a nice way.

Sidge · 23/08/2020 13:43

Your favourite name is my maiden name!

I didn’t go back to it after I divorced but stuck with my married name, as I’d got used to it and my children have the same name.

I did toy with changing to something grander; Cavendish, Berkeley, Montague - something like that.

nc600 · 23/08/2020 13:44

Hmm -

Capone? De Niro? Tarantino?

I'd have to go a bit unusual 😂

JaneJeffer · 23/08/2020 13:44
