I'm divorcing DH soon and hoping to just change my name to something I like. I've been saddled with his since the age of 18 Smile

What's your favourite surname? I think I might go with 'Knight'

@FreezerBird I knew a family with that surname too. The daughter had an usual first name and hated the whole name.

I love the surname Lovelace

Ozgirl75 · 23/08/2020 12:30

I was at college with a girl with the surname Loveday. That’s nice too.

OrangeLavenders · 23/08/2020 12:30

My current surname is 'Goodwin'. I think it's a bit too common?

Does Knight sound okay or too try hard? I like Knightly but then I'd have to live up to the likes of the famous Knightly and I shall fail Grin

I’d have Devereaux, it sounds so fancy.
Or Horton or Fox.

Dauphinois · 23/08/2020 12:35

Depends on your first name - alliterative names are the way forward I reckon.

Dauphinois · 23/08/2020 12:36

What letter does your first name start with and how many syllables?

Whatthebloodyell · 23/08/2020 12:37

Moriarty

TheGirlWhoLived · 23/08/2020 12:38

I think Knight is a little too normal considering you have the whole world of surnames at your disposal. Also I would implore you to google/Facebook and make sure there isn’t a famous/infamous person with the same full name but completely different Values!

FourEyesGood · 23/08/2020 12:43

There’s a Swift in my family tree and I love that.

I was looking through my family tree and found a wonderful surname from long ago—Conkleshell.

NC4Now · 23/08/2020 12:57

I had a spell it every time maiden name. I’ve kept my married name (Smith) for simplicity. I do like it but you’ve got me thinking now...

worriedmama1980 · 23/08/2020 12:58

I don't love knight, but think it depends on the name going with it.

I really like Grey - think it's quite elegant. Short ones are good: Elliot as someone mentioned, Fox. I also like Delaney which is very irish but I just like the sound.

What's your first name in terms of syllables, initials? Agree with others to google, and think about how unusual you want to be: there's nobody else on google with your new name, there's so many you can't be found, somewhere in between? I have a first name that is common where I live but unusual elsewhere and a surname that is common in other places but unusual here which means I was the only person on google with my name until I googled myself once before a job interview and found a death notice which was a bit unsettling.

AHippoNamedBooBooButt · 23/08/2020 13:04

I think I'd like a double barrelled name.

I like pretty ones like Winter, Summers, Honey
But then I'd also like something to represent me so something personal like the County I was born in, or a special place etc.
Though tbf, I hate my first name more than my last name and wojld love to change it to the English version of my name (which is the version of a country I have absolutely no relation to or possibly even visited)

wowfudge · 23/08/2020 13:05

I must say that Knight reminded me of Kath Day-Knight in Kath & Kim.

Honeybun that someone has suggested reminded me of Lucy Honeychurch in A Room with a View.

Choosing your own surname is a great idea. I went back to my birth name when I divorced and wouldn't change it again if I remarried.

libertybelle221b · 23/08/2020 13:05

Liberty!

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 23/08/2020 13:06

I like the literal ones: Drinkwater. Inkpen. Gotobed. Also always liked Thackeray and Thacker. Just like the way they sound!
