I'm divorcing DH soon and hoping to just change my name to something I like. I've been saddled with his since the age of 18 Smile

What's your favourite surname? I think I might go with 'Knight'

Mine is one mentioned by other posters!

I like Motion, Bourne and Knightley.

JingsMahBucket · 24/08/2020 12:32

Some good ones on here. I’ve known people with last names such as Gotham and Birdsong. They’ve always stayed with and I’ve always loved them.

Sarahlou63 · 24/08/2020 12:34

I knew a couple called Angel.

LongPauseNoReply · 24/08/2020 12:42

I would go for something that would get me special treatment wherever I went like Grimaldi (Monaco royal family) or Rothschild Grin

spiderlight · 24/08/2020 12:48

DS has a friend whose surname is Gathergood - sounds so lovely and gentle, like a character from All Creatures Great and Small.

SciFiScream · 24/08/2020 12:50

@TheFaerieQueene - I agreed with Janeway. Sorry Tuvix but we needed Tuvok and Neelix back...
@Goyle - another vote for Hamilton. Easy to spell and as it's two syllables,
lots of names will go well with it. I like the vowel sounds - light and upbeat rather than dreary!
Is Hamilton not three syllables, Ham-il-tun? It is in my accent!

LemonandLimeShark · 24/08/2020 13:18

It's interesting to see how much tastes vary. Personally I've always liked the surname Barrett though I don't know why. I also like Rivers and Waters and Somerset/Somerton. Fields is rather nice.

Speaking of unusual surnames I've met a few people with the surname Hailstones. I'm not sure I'd like to be called that but it's certainly different.

LemonandLimeShark · 24/08/2020 13:25

Appleton is lovely.

Davros · 24/08/2020 14:44

I worked with someone whose surname was Snowball. Fun name but he was a dick

cptartapp · 24/08/2020 15:43

Ellis or Williams

DuaneBenziesvoice · 24/08/2020 17:07

There's a solicitor in my home town called Rupert Bear.Grin
unmarkedbythat · 24/08/2020 17:08

Brzęczyszczykiewicz.

Claricestarling1 · 24/08/2020 18:41

I love Montague or Van Heisling

Inappropriatefemale · 24/08/2020 19:32

@cptartapp

Ellis or Williams
I love these names too, esp Ellis, it sounds very doctor or solicitor like, “Mr Williams, Doctor Ellis will see you now”Grin
Inappropriatefemale · 24/08/2020 19:34

I bet he had a great time at school! I also imagine that he isn’t a guy with game when it comes to romantic relationships, same with men called Nigel, such an English name, and very...poncey!!

Inappropriatefemale · 24/08/2020 19:34

My last comment was to you @DuaneBenziesvoice, couldn’t quote you for some reason.

AdelaideK · 24/08/2020 19:38

I alway liked Trelawney from the Chalet School books.

Miller is lovely too.

BikeRunSki · 24/08/2020 19:46

Dumbledoor

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 24/08/2020 19:55

My grandmother had a friend called Mrs Appleyard, which I always thought was lovely. I quite like Abernathy as well.

Do you have any favourites yet, OP?

SciFiScream · 24/08/2020 20:05

@mumwithovertime - that's a awful lot of info to share online. You've given three generations of name and a first name!

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 24/08/2020 20:14

I had a user with the surname Snowball which I loved.

The challenge is to get something you don’t have to spell every time.

Even Smith is complicated - I was at university with a Smyth.

I think I’d find someone I really respect but with a sensible name.

What would your specialist subject be on Mastermind.

Mine would either be Thomas Hardy books or The island of St kilda.

So I could choose Gillies (common surname on St Kilda) or anything from Hardy - which covers a LOT of names inc Everdene, Hatchard, Yeobright, D’Urberville etc

homemadecommunistrussia · 24/08/2020 20:16

I think Fox is hard to beat, but my first thought was Challis which I love.
My maiden name has been mentioned a few times, not sure why I changed itConfused

purrswhileheeats · 24/08/2020 20:23

I always fancied a Greek surname like Aristides or Mavromatis. So wouldn't go with my boring English 70s name though 😕
