Got a new (well second hand, but new for us) car in March. Much bigger than I've ever driven but I've practised in it a lot and now feel much more confident.

Today I was pulling in to our drive and completely misjudged the distance - I somehow (very slowly) drove against the corner of our bay window.

The only damage is a very neat dent in the bumper -.probably an inch and a half long. I'm so embarrassed, I've no idea how I did it.

I'm dreading telling DH. He wont be angry or anything but he will think it is a but worrying which it is really.

I could keep shtum but I've never kept anything from him.

What would you do!?!?

Your lucky, my other half went mad when I did something similar

I once reversed my DHs car into a lamp post. I ignored the parking sensors beeping at me with a vague “I wonder what they’re beeping at, oh look there’s a lamp post (forgot to apply the brake) oh shit what was that crunch?”

Thank god the new car has rear view cameras, at least I can see what I’m crashing into next time on the little tv.

I scraped my nearly new car on the side of work car park gate due to an idiot at work who kept saying ‘you’ll pass Come through! It’ll cost me about £600 which I haven’t done yet since. I’m sure yours won’t cost much.

Definitely tell him OP. I recently reversed into, unbeknownst to be at the time, a mum from schools tow bar and the family bus now sports a rather large cricket ball sized dent. The husband couldn’t care less - I think it’s something to do with the car being a family wagon and seemingly it’s par for the course! They are made for scrapes and dents

I caught the front bumper of my lovely Audi coupe - which is my pride and joy - on a kerb am when I was having tyre fixed at quick fit. Pulled it nearly off. The guys there were brilliant and helped me push it back into place and I used a zip tie I had in the boot to keep it in place. That was 2 years ago and I’ve never told my husband or 3 sons as I would never hear the end of it. Bad mummy!!!!

Mitzimccormack · 22/08/2020 01:17

And the zip tie is still holding it on!

Oh yes late to work one winters morning at 7am I rushed out, jumped into the car and didn't even see that DSs car was parked behind mine on the drive until I reversed into it. In my defence DSs car was black, smaller than mine, and we live rurally so no streetlights. Luckily no damage done but I felt such an idiot.

Just after I passed my test many years ago my DH said something about me parking too close to the garage door..i thought I'd be clever and park even closer but he shouted whoa and I panicked and slammed my foot on the acfelerator instead of the brake. The car shot through the garage door pinning his door closed. I escaped thru my door and ran into the house! We still laugh about that even now. Best to just own up and take the ribbing imo Blush

If the paintwork is scratched buy some T Cut and rub the scratches out the damage won’t look half as bad without scratches in the paintwork! this is from personal experience 🥴

I reversed into our porch. Got out and found some orange indicator plastic in the gravel. However I'd only got the bumper. Someone else had already reversed into it Hmm And then I did it again, but this time with DS1 in the car who thought it was brilliant and spent the next few years on congratulating me every time I didn't crash the car into the house.

And then, a few years and another car later, I was reversing onto the drive again, and as I waited for the road to clear I remembered how cute it was DS1 congratulating me, and I thought "ohh, I haven't driven into the porch for years now" and THEN I DID JUST THAT.
