Because bitter male cucumbers don't bring joy, but phallic aubergines can raise an irreverent smile.

AD chat continues about life, the universe and everything. We know the answer is 42 but what is the question?
6x7?
How many roads must a man walk down?
How many unsadly reincarnations have PHE put into the database?

My welsh friend worked herself into exhaustion marking GCSE english work, then had to do the 1st in class to last. To throw out all her efforts which were analytical and unfavoured would have been a kick in the teeth to her students.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 17/08/2020 15:24

Feels bloody autumnal today in Scotland - I’m eyeing up the heating... swam an hour this morning with fellow women rejoicing at the schools being back. We’ve clawed back our “normal” Monday mornings.

Naomi klein thinks. All her works are good.

I have a billion green tomatoes on my tumbling toms. I have some rude courgettes which I will need to photograph.

ISaySteadyOn · 17/08/2020 15:57

I have chilis fruiting. Just right for autumn.
And a few tomatoes and carrots. Nothing rude, I am afraid. Sorry Smile

They've followed for England as well now:

Teacher estimates to be used for exam results

A-level and GCSE students in England will be given grades estimated by their teachers, rather than by an algorithm, after a government U-turn.

It feel Autumn in our bit of wales last few days DH disagrees but we often went on holiday last week of six weeks summer holiday and the weather did frequently turn before then.

NowYouListenToMeFella · 17/08/2020 16:20

Fairly autumnal feeling here too. First morning I thought the bedroom light could go on.

@InsaneInTheViralMembrane do you swim all year round in the loch? Or take to the pool?

I've really enjoyed sea swimming this year but could do with getting more confident. Might get a few lessons to improve technique and then build it up over the winter.

The exam results thing over seems like an absolutely disaster. Christ you'd be raging if you had a child caught up in that.

I look forward to more pics of funny shaped vegetables.

If I focussed on the aspects of my life that I'm doing it would look 80% would look pretty normal other than working from home. I've never been a big shopper and my hobbies are walking and riding. DC are adult But there are huge chunks missing completely. My horse is too old and creaky to compete now and we just have out but I usually help at a few competitions and because my discipline takes a lot of planning and helpers and usually last a whole weekend with camping and socialising they are only just starting to advertise very limited 1 day events. The big events I would go to like Burghley and concerts have been cancelled as well as the live comedy and smaller gigs. Birdwatching hides are still closed too. Worst of all I have no idea when I can go and visit my son in Finland. DHs income is back working but goes into people's houses so at risk of having to isolate, possibly more than once, and although flyball training has started again they don't have any competitions. So day to day mostly things are fairly normal but it's the extras that give life shape and flavour that are missing for us.

Read a few posts in US4ThemScot. Apparently schools especially primary are sending kids outside for the whole of lunchtime today...It's absolutely bucketing down in many parts of Scotland and North of Eng today. I was soaked in town even with a coat and umbarella but that was my choice.

No warning to parents so kids will be soaked, even with coats, going back into 'ventilated' rooms so will probably stay wet. No change of clothes or shoes. Wtaf?
How much fun is it trying to dry out soaking shoes for the following day???
How many parents will have bought extra pairs of school shoes?

How many parents will have head to.toe waterproofs for older primary kids? I never did and none of the kids at school would have worn them at 11 or 12 anyway!
They have had months why was this never mentioned? Even once they knew the date they went back why not tell parents they would need stuff. BUT many schools arent even allowing schoolbags so wtf are parents supposed to do with the wellies and extra clothes?
Educators with no bloody common sense nor seem to care for the kids. (Not all obviously but many are not painting the whole in a good light right now)

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 17/08/2020 16:32

@NowYouListenToMeFella all year round! Right now is about as warm as it’ll get by me, I’ve swam as cold as 3 degrees - but I draw the line at taking my ice-pick to get in. I swim in just a cossie - good for the immune system, but plenty in wetsuits even in the summer.

I do have a lovely pool at the gym I use too - fuck knows when I’ll get to use that again!

@Willow2017 my school said not to bring changes of clothes.

SodomyNonSapiens · 17/08/2020 16:34

@shinynewapple2020
My life isn't that much different either, it really is individual.

The problem for me is when people are saying - 'Well I'm alright, so everyone should be' and that the whole situation is back to normal, when it's nothing like.

Fair play for swimming in just the cossie in the winter. Hoping next year I'll be a confident sea swimmer. Pools open here, must just find one doing adult lessons.

Following on from the life geeks normal. My day to day other than working from home (which I love) feels normal. Back at gym and Pilates which are my usual evening things.

I miss gigs and festivals and heading off somewhere in Europe for a weekend. The extras as someone mentioned above. Those things that make life special. I feel like I am just existing really. (I won't get into my mask wearing hatred).

My Spanish class should be starting up in September but I'm thinking it will be online. I look at a computer all day at work. I don't want to do it for a class I'm meant to enjoy.

MY TOMATOES ARE REDDENING, PEOPLE!! Grin
They're looking good. I think my peppers are going to turn out a bit small. I've had to move them out of the dining room because I was sick of aphids and they're not growing as fast, now.

I curried my nice shiny aubergine, yesterday. Started it off in the microwave before blasting it under the grill and the stork burst into flames in the microwave. It was like one of those cartoon bombs, turning round and roundShock

Stork? I am so much better than that Blush stalk.

flower11 · 17/08/2020 17:38

Delurking to show you my tomatoes. We have been harvesting them for a couple of weeks. Great crop this year.

Changed name again. I liked what the other one meant but I didn't like how it looked.

SomewhereEast · 17/08/2020 18:29

@WouldBeGood

But I can help, with a picture of a bum tomato I took last year
My DC loved the bum tomato Grin
SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 17/08/2020 18:49

I am so jealous of the bum tomato. Fingers crossed for at least one entertaining one in the crop.

Thank goodness the gov u-turned on the exam results. I didn't think Boris would like being unpopular. Wonder if Gavin will be reshuffled at a later date, it's a bloody enormous cock up.

Ibake · 17/08/2020 19:26

Williamson should be fired. He's an incompetent twat of the highest order and I really think if the govt wants to try and convince us they halfway know what they're doing then BoJo should be decisive on this one.

Agreed.
LivinLaVidaLoki · 17/08/2020 19:46

I'm currently mentally preparing myself to go back to work tomorrow. You don't realise how exhausting it is until you stop.

And as there is just me in the entire place who does my job, whenever I'm off for more than a couple of days, I dread to think what my workload looks like now....

bakingcupcakes · 17/08/2020 19:50

I also love the bum tomato. Grin Today I've found the first female pumpkin flower on my rather feeble pumpkin plant so all is not lost on the home grown pumpkin front. I'm hoping it doesn't flower before I get back off holiday so I can help it fertilise. Grin

Not much to report. Been reading about the exam fiasco. I really feel for all those affected and no matter what they do about the grades this year group will be known as the 'covid year'.

WouldBeGood · 17/08/2020 19:55

I feel I have achieved something now with the Bum Tomato 😃

You have! Best laugh in the Steady household today.

I vote for a bum tomato reference in the next thread title.

The one on the left is a little out of proportion :o
