If you are from Yorkshire, where are you from and what do you call the crumbs that fall off fried fish?

Asking for a friend...

Sorry, I'm from Leeds and now live in North Yorkshire. I've never heard of them being called bits.

Scraps.
Was once very confused in Dorset where they were referred to as scrumps.

Scraps. East Yorkshire, what was Humberside for a lot of my childhood. They are scraps up here in County Durham too.

Went to york in a school trip (many years ago) remember being very confused in the fish & chip shop when they asked if we wanted scraps, we said no, we’d like a proper bit of fish! You don’t get the crispy bits in London (mores the pity)

GetThatHelmetOn · 09/08/2020 19:44

Jesus... he is right! We just had a massive argument over this (I know how silly this is). But I had always know them as “bits” (Huddersfield) while he says this is absolutely wrong!

Are all of you saying “scraps” from North Yorkshire by any chance? Grin

Bits here in Happy Valley Smile

InDubiousBattle · 09/08/2020 19:49

Scraps, I'm in West Yorkshire (Bradford). My friend in Halifax says 'bits' though. What do you call two pieces of potato with a thin layer of fish in the middle (then battered)? This seems to cause more arguments among my Friends!

My Grandparents lived in Dewsbury and if we went to local chip shop we asked for a bag of batter bits..... unfortunately they don't seem to be a thing where I live.

QuentinQuarantino · 09/08/2020 19:50

Scraps here in Leeds.

Fish and chips are better without though.
