If you are from Yorkshire, where are you from and what do you call the crumbs that fall off fried fish?

Asking for a friend...

My DH from near Huddersfield bits
Me from Leeds correctly calls them scraps

OhDear2200 · 09/08/2020 19:53

E Yorkshire.

At the end of a night out me and my mates used to go to the fish and chip shop before it closed and get a bag of scraps for free.

Bloody delicious when drunk!!!

NannyR · 09/08/2020 19:54

What do you call two pieces of potato with a thin layer of fish in the middle (then battered)?
A cake

PawPatrolMakesMeDrink · 09/08/2020 19:56

Scraps.
East Yorkshire lass living in West Yorkshire. For my sins.

worldweary45 · 09/08/2020 19:56

@InDubiousBattle

That would be a fish cake (Leeds)

ChequerBoard · 09/08/2020 19:57

Was a student in Leeds - definitely scraps!

MissMarplesHandbag · 09/08/2020 19:58

I called them bits when I lived in Leeds

Scraps... I’m from Newcastle

TimeTruthandHearts · 09/08/2020 20:03

If it helps OP, I do think Kirklees and Calderdale are a bit of an anomaly in terms of the Yorkshire dialect. Although W. York's, it doesn't sound much like the Leeds/Castleford/Wakefield accents, and there are certain words and phrases used commonly there that aren't elsewhere - like 'bits', teacakes (for bread rolls) and 'mom' instead of mum/mam.

Restlessinthenorth · 09/08/2020 20:04

Scraps

And a cake

DrCoconut · 09/08/2020 20:07

Scraps. My southerner exH had never heard of them before meeting me.
